Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by Daniel Silk on Aug 26, 2006 12:17:50 GMT 1, art.blogging.la/archives/2006/08/banksy_presents.phtml
Banksy Presents "Barely Legal," Sept 15th-17th The Los Angeles street art community is likely aflame with the news that British graffiti phenom Banksy is planning a mid-September warehouse show in Los Angeles. Not entirely surprising as, judging by a recent spate of work, he's been spending quite a bit of time here on the Left Coast hanging out with fellow artists.
Banksy's last show, "Turf War," featured vandalized police vehicles and live, painted farm animals, and caused quite a stir in London. The location for the Los Angeles event, titled "Barely Legal," will be announced on Banksy's site beginning September 15th.

Banksy’s 3-Day Vandalized Warehouse Extravaganza Posted by Caroline under Los Angeles, Art -
No one knows where he will strike but prolific stencil graffiti artist Banksy (aka Robert Banks) from Bristol, England, will make a much anticipated ”Barely Legal” L.A. appearance (or at least his work will) on September 15-17 at a super secret location that won’t be disclosed until the day of the event. Check his site September 15 to find out where.
From Wikipedia:
Banksy uses different techniques to communicate a message, which is often political and/or humorous. His original street art form, which combines graffiti with a distinctive stencilling technique, has achieved a certain underground notoriety and widespread coverage in the mainstream media.
You may recognize his work around Los Angeles as of late; it’s speculated that he’s been spending time here with some of our local artists. But Banksy’s technique is an interesting take on graffiti, normally a free-form art. And who can resist that adorable stenciled rat or the humor of it all?
So what’s this mysterious event all about? One can only imagine, judging by the scale of the phenom’s past works where he stenciled the penguin enclosure of the London Zoo and even the Palestinian side of the Israeli West Bank barrier. If anything, Banksy fans have been told to expect “a warehouse full of mindless vandalism and pretty pictures.”
EVENT: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by willamsa on Sept 3, 2006 9:21:09 GMT 1, I heard a rumor they're planning on spraypainting an elephant for the show - if this is true it could cause some serious publicity
Could be a wind up but heard it from a source very close to the organisers and it seems to fit in with having live animals at events (cow and rats)
it is the US everything is big over there ! ! !

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by Ågent ßacardi on Sept 5, 2006 4:27:34 GMT 1, FINALLY the great bansky is doing a show here in Los Angeles!! I've always been so jealous of not being able to go over to the UK to see his work in real life. Now I finally get to go to one of his shows!!! ;D
I've been a banksy fan for a while, but only from a distance (all I see are photos from the web, his books, and snapshots of works on eBay that I can never afford) until recently when he's been tagging a handful of locations here in LA. What can I expect from the show? I'm pretty sure he's not gonna be there (even if he is, he'll probably be disguised). Can I take pictures? Will there be anything for sale? What about freebies (I'm trying my luck here)? Would appreciate some input from all you seasoned fans! I am so there!!!

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by mido on Sept 5, 2006 14:28:45 GMT 1, buying Wall & Piece is surely the cheapest way to see a lot of his work so far. loads of photos, and some comments....
that is a pretty affordable 'artform' I think
as for LA.... don't know what will be there - have just been advised that it will be very good and would be worth going if I could (i think i've pretty much given up on my idea to go )
People took photos at Turf war and Crude Oils so maybe you will be allowed in LA??

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by Ågent ßacardi on Sept 5, 2006 21:26:49 GMT 1, Thanks for the info, mido! I've got all his books so far - they're about the only banksy stuff that I can afford off eBay. If I were to ever make it over to London someday, I'm gonna be spending at least a couple of days roaming the streets hunting for his work. People are gonna think that's a bloody stupid waste of a trip to London, but I've been wanting to do that for a long time and I don't friggin' care.
I cannot wait for the LA show. I'm definitely gonna be bringing my camera with me. Since it's not gonna be a snooty 'real gallery' art show, I figure nobody's gonna care about pictures... right? Besides, Banksy's a street artist (for the most part), and I would imagine that the more people see his work, the better. I think.

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by Ågent ßacardi on Sept 6, 2006 17:35:11 GMT 1, I'll do my best to get as much stuff as possible for the people on this forum (posters/flyers, etc.)... but only if I can find them I seriously don't know where to look. For people who have been to his shows in London before, what were the type of locations where promo stuff was available? Will there be freebies at the show itself?
But *if* I do get anything, I'll send it to you people. All you'd have to pay is the postage, or I'd be glad to do a swap if you'll be willing. I need to establish a network of fellow banksy fans who don't rip other people off by selling free stuff they got for thousands of pounds on eBay
Only 9 more days! I can't wait!!! ;D

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by mido on Sept 7, 2006 0:23:34 GMT 1, unlikely to be any freebies, judging on previous events.... Maybe a postcard type flyer advertising the event?
the jury is still also out on whether there might be anything new / interesting to buy.... no-one seems to know for sure

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by rolomonster on Sept 10, 2006 9:55:54 GMT 1, Must be purchasing to invest then, I guess Banksy has become to big for his name and is becoming like a brand. Shouldn't you the buy the art you like? Banksy pieces with humour seem to do well, political messages like CND are good etc.

You Sir are a star Record shops & trendy clothes/skatestuff type shops are always a good bet for flyers & posters. Look up 'Fat Beats' Records for one, if there's nothing there I'll be surprised.
As for £ 50 for a show poster, I'd consider that a bargain actually
