Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by RBK on Sept 18, 2006 16:11:46 GMT 1, Angelman - I'm the guy from the Chicago And Applause sold-out right before me unfortunately It was nice chatting with you!
I am a collector - not a speculator. I'm going to sell one of my prints to offset the cost of the trip and some pending Banksy purchases.
I agree that the impression was that it was a limited edition run of 100 - but who really cares? There is now a ton of interest in the US for Banksy and our dear friends from the UK are salivating over getting these prints.
While what they did was deceiving, I think it is good that more will be coming to market. It will keep Ebay prices somewhat in check, allow UK buyers and US buyers that didn't know about the show until Sat/Sun to get a Banksy print.
I think they did a great job of organizing everything given how nuts it was there! Numbering of prints was based on the order of purchase and with 6 prints with runs of 100, and every purchaser dying to pick up theirs, think we couldn't ask for much more.

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by bonesy on Sept 18, 2006 17:54:22 GMT 1, When I got up in line there were only 2 prints left and they specifically said they were not going to be signed. This was Friday maybe 2PM. They told me that they were releasing 100 here and the rest of the edition in the UK. The 100 released here, in the US, were printed here and will be different from the UK ones as the ones they print up at home wont have the deckled edge I was told.

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by guerillaart on Sept 18, 2006 18:56:07 GMT 1, I have 3 of the barely legal prints that I am willing to swap for other BANKSY prints. I bought a set of 6 but have decided to get rid of 'Sale Ends', 'Morons' & 'Capitalism'. I am now back in the UK and so if anybody is interested in swapping then send me a personal email with what you've got! Cheers. Ben

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by numusic on Sept 18, 2006 19:22:41 GMT 1, So I was one of the first people at the LA exhibition on friday lunch time (fortunately just happened to be in the area and not at work that day). When I got there there was just 5 people lined up for prints. DIdnt really bother to queue up, I had a $100 in my pocket to buy a print (can you tell how long ago I bought my queen victoria!). an Hour later there were 40 people. Guy in front was a serious collector just flew in from chicago, guy behind was saying how crap it was that there were all these collectors taking all the prints to resell at massive mark up. I missed getting Applause by 1 person! I got the last trolley and the penultimate granny. The guy behind was demanding that his granny be number 100 out of 100. They told us there that the set was out of 100, signed and stamped. Later they explained that actually the first 20 were pre assigned so the collector guy behind would either get 20 or 80 depending on whether they started at the beginning or end. He was pissed off! "I want 100, I want 100" stupid idiot especially after all the s**t he was talking before about not selling out. Anyway pick up the prints on Saturday and looks like Banksy had the last laugh. Turns out the first 50 were preassigned, and that although they insisted there were only 150 in the edition, numberings were out of 500!!! They also said that since they were so popular they may have some more printed and may make a UK edition. Earlier they said this was an LA exclusive. I don't really care because I bought it for the picture because I like the works. But is this not grounds for legal action? This is not banksy and some mates selling posters out the back of an old shoreditch factory. This is serious art being sold for serious money being bought buy collectors and supposedly being run and represented by a serious gallery Lazerides. Their organisation was shocking. Recipets piled up for 10's 1000's of dollars. Recipets for $60,000 just casually floating around. They hadnt got a clue what was going on. Surely I could sue for misrepresentation, especially since they said it was an exclusive run of 100 when they are actually marked out of 500. not only that you couldnt see the prints before purchase. The trolley hunters I bought was a little dispointing since I loved the colours in the painting but the print is more or less black and white.
legal action, sue ? friggin hell, only in America, is this really how your brains work ? jesus.. oopps sorry, i meant God.. ermmm damn..arrgh sorry.,,, idiot !.. sue me ;D

LOL!!!!!! Never buy anything that you don't want to live with. If you buy it to make a fast buck, it will always bite you in the ass one way or another. And I really don't get why anyone would want to freaking sue an artist because his edition number was not what he would have prefered. He made his thirty pieces of silver on it already!!! I'm with you.... "Is this really how your brains work?"

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by mido on Sept 18, 2006 20:01:00 GMT 1, they say america is a litigious society! must be true.
chill. you got your hands on a great print that everyone over here wants. Even if 500 are made in the end they will still be very rare and (if you are interested) worth a lot. You should be smiling. No other print has ever been released like that before (i.e. only available at an event), so you were all very lucky in USA.
logic suggests that the ones sold over here (if that happens) will be printed over here and will be recognisably different. e.g. POW recpt, POW stamp, the edging. Also the numbering will make it obvious by the sounds of it (50-150 = US)
This is all guesswork on my behalf, but it could come true....

I'm sure that the hundreds of people at the show that were too late, and all you guys across the pond would like to have a print - regardless of the numbering.

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by angelman on Sept 18, 2006 21:49:41 GMT 1, hmm.. i am not sure if you guys are missing my point here. I was shocled at all the dealers that were there, compared to when I went to the previous banksy show in london with the farm animals which seemed much more chilled and the people appeared at least to be just enjoying the work. Here there was a rather ugly frantic/desperate feeling about the whole thing on friday. It was buy the stuff first then look at the gallery. There was a guy behind me who was so insistent about getting aboslutely the last numbered print it was sort of upsetting. I just wanted to say, look it doesnt matter what the number is, its about the picture just be glad you got one.. oh wait, you probably just want to sell it on for a quick buck. The point is that now the established art world is getting interested and people are paying some serious bucks for this stuff I wonder if banksy and his gang are ready for the primetime. I worry that in this litigious country people might be a little upset. I think the next logical step for banksy would be to release prints with random numbers. You choose a number and you will not know what the picture is. Completely blind random sale.. kind of takes the whole commercial aspect to a logical conclusion in some way.. but I am probably just talking bollocks. Its a very tricky situation he is in now. The level of attention this weekend is both good but also kind of disturbing. how to manage fame.. When you have mcauly culkin begging you for a print.. I only hope they didnt give him one. I dont like the one rule for celebs and another rule for plebs thing

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by seba on Nov 10, 2009 19:10:15 GMT 1, there were posters like this at his la-show. i think you could buy them for around 10 dollars or so. but can´t tell if the one on the picture is a reproduction or not.
the price should be about the same as a for the soup can poster. how much are they going for?
