Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by ร
gent รacardi on Apr 29, 2007 22:01:34 GMT 1, Alright then, here we go!
Question: What is the name of this piece from the "Barely Legal" show that was allegedly purchased by famed serial child collector Angelina Jolie?
A few hints:
1. At the show, the title of this piece was on a card positioned left of this massive canvas
2. The answer can be found on an external link somewhere on this forum. You just need to be smart about where to look! For instance, since this is about Banksy's SHOW in LOS ANGELES, you wouldn't look in the "Get your Banksys out for the lads" thread, or even worse, the "Dan Baldwin" thread, would ya?
3. The external link is from a post made by me
4. "Yaahooooooooo!!!"
5. Double Click.
First one to post the correct answer here wins! Good luck!!! ;D

Nope! ;D C'mon, you gotta look, don't guess! The title is more like a sentence, not a single word. A very wittingly-written one at that!

A quiz every Sunday... so that you can miss them all? ;D LOL!
I'd love to do another one next Sunday, but I don't have any more attractive prizes! I guess I can give away another promo card + flyer, but only if there's demand for it... or maybe a Kate Moss postcard (courtesy of Silky)... but again, it depends on the demand. If nobody cares for these 'prizes', then there's really no point in having these contests
So yea or nay, people? Should I do another one?

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by tomhills1 on Apr 30, 2007 17:42:28 GMT 1, i agree, make sundays (it could always be the last sunday of the month) quiz night. get a few beers in, sit round by the fire and come up with obscure names for your team. mine was always: is barry white? is marvin gaye?
do pubs still do quiz nights?

My second favourite all time quote after Romanwag's
"Smug t**t! Bet you have a cupboard full of ping pong balls too! "
This board is definately more about the humour than the art for me!!
Genious lads!!

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by theomethod on Mar 13, 2008 2:28:35 GMT 1, Animal Rights Activists Protest Plan To Envelop Elephant In Bubble
SANTA ANA, Calif. -- A plan to envelop an 8,800-pound elephant in a bubble for a few seconds at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana next week has the animal rights community up in arms. The 39-year-old elephant in question, Tai, is no stranger to fame, with 20 movie credits, TV commercials and appearances at corporate parties on her resume. "She has such a reputation that people ask for her by name," Kari Johnson, a co-owner of Have Trunk Will Travel, told the Los Angeles Times. The company operates a ranch in Perris for nine endangered Asian elephants, which often work in show business. Bubble artist Fan Yang plans to briefly envelop the elephant in a giant soapy bubble at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana for five to 10 seconds on Tuesday as part of the center's annual Bubblefest, according to The Times. The stunt is intended to set a world record for the largest living land mammal in a bubble.
"It's cruelty in the worst possible form in that it says it's not only acceptable, it's an art form," L.A. Animal Services General Manager Ed Boks told The Times. Though he has no say over the Santa Ana event, Boks said, "I think that's the wrong message to be sending." The science center is defending the show as educational, adding that the stunt has been performed a number of times on humans, according to The Times. "We don't think it's cruelty," Leslie Perovich, vice president of marketing for the center, told the newspapers. "It's a great opportunity to get people excited about bubbles and science."

Banksy Show, Barely Legal in LA, by angelman on Sept 18, 2006 15:19:53 GMT 1, So I was one of the first people at the LA exhibition on friday lunch time (fortunately just happened to be in the area and not at work that day). When I got there there was just 5 people lined up for prints. DIdnt really bother to queue up, I had a $100 in my pocket to buy a print (can you tell how long ago I bought my queen victoria!). an Hour later there were 40 people. Guy in front was a serious collector just flew in from chicago, guy behind was saying how crap it was that there were all these collectors taking all the prints to resell at massive mark up. I missed getting Applause by 1 person! I got the last trolley and the penultimate granny. The guy behind was demanding that his granny be number 100 out of 100. They told us there that the set was out of 100, signed and stamped. Later they explained that actually the first 20 were pre assigned so the collector guy behind would either get 20 or 80 depending on whether they started at the beginning or end. He was pissed off! "I want 100, I want 100" stupid idiot especially after all the shit he was talking before about not selling out. Anyway pick up the prints on Saturday and looks like Banksy had the last laugh. Turns out the first 50 were preassigned, and that although they insisted there were only 150 in the edition, numberings were out of 500!!! They also said that since they were so popular they may have some more printed and may make a UK edition. Earlier they said this was an LA exclusive. I don't really care because I bought it for the picture because I like the works. But is this not grounds for legal action? This is not banksy and some mates selling posters out the back of an old shoreditch factory. This is serious art being sold for serious money being bought buy collectors and supposedly being run and represented by a serious gallery Lazerides. Their organisation was shocking. Recipets piled up for 10's 1000's of dollars. Recipets for $60,000 just casually floating around. They hadnt got a clue what was going on. Surely I could sue for misrepresentation, especially since they said it was an exclusive run of 100 when they are actually marked out of 500. not only that you couldnt see the prints before purchase. The trolley hunters I bought was a little dispointing since I loved the colours in the painting but the print is more or less black and white.
