new print by antony micallef, by carlito on Sept 6, 2008 0:12:41 GMT 1, Expensive or not, this is a huge price reduction on the previous editions of 50, which were repro offsets anyway. A big two fingers to anyone who spent ยฃ4,700 on the last lot (which I didn't by the way)
ain't that the truth

new print by antony micallef, by snausages on Sept 6, 2008 2:23:03 GMT 1, Investment or love of image? quiet understandable that no one wants to take a loss of $1000 overnight. but as they say if you cant afford to lose, then dont buy. I'm not sleeping no the sidewalk yet. I liked the prints sure but after living with a psycho gun crazy minotaur on my wall for a little while i realized it just wasn't the kind of art I really wanted to own. Just didn't resonate with me the way I thought and clashed with some of my other art, although I still have some respect for his work.
Not the first thing I had to take a loss on and won't be the last, i'll live but it's always leaves a bad taste.

new print by antony micallef, by moleman on Sept 6, 2008 4:06:41 GMT 1, for those with the heads up i hope you think i was right about the print it is nice and big but jan has art your pic makes this look better than it is in my opinion Its a silk screen of something like 20 different bits of what i can describe as tracing paper all layered on to the print. I saw many different colour variations (of black) and this was not my fav. I really like mics work and i would have bought it if i had 2.5k and when you think save my soul is selling for 800ish edition of 250 this is not a bad buy if you have the cash. That said not sure it would make the wall i like his colour works more and think giant freak is one of my favs. All those who got one you have a good print which if the ra show goes well you could be sitting on a pot of cash. if it doesnt there will be some loses made here as it already has a mixed bag. I dont think these will come up on the bay collecters only i think
For all those who dont have 2.5k keep looking and waiting more mics on the way so i hear

For all those who dont have 2.5k keep looking and waiting more mics on the way so i hear I know it's been said before. But prints typically speaking aren't really gold mines except for (sometimes) the big art superstars. Other than that the only prints that really really appreciate are the particularly rare and or extremely iconic. tread carefully and be sure you really like it if you're paying ยฃ2.5k or more for a print imo.

i disagree you may be right at the moment that the prints are coming up to there true cost from first sale, but for the big artist that is the only way you will probably ever get a bit of work on your walls from them. that is always the draw of prints from the big boys. If you look at last year micallef prices were crazy money expresso beans says some one paid 11k for dirty deluxe thats a nice mark up from 500 odd quid. banksy prints at cost look at them now x3 or for or more than cost. I understand the reason behind print bashing yes we would all like originals i have one or two and espcially paint (oils) with loads of texture cant be beatten or matched by a print. I would say prints arent looking so pleasing to the eye in this economic climate and people are losing out, but the more people who panic and try to keep selling stuff the worse it will get. If you can make 100 hundred pound from a print after you have had your fill of it go for it you just made a 100 for nothing. I think this mic is special its an 50th piece if the studio get bigger so will this print and as i said earlier its a new type of print from mic not a glicee its a high price but a collecters piece all the same.

new print by antony micallef, by loucastel on Sept 6, 2008 9:48:47 GMT 1, The boy has done it again, turned out another half arsed attempt, to me it looks like a lot of random attempts at drawing when he was bored, and couldnt quite make up his mind, can't see the thought process that went into it, almost like the contents of an art students portfolio transposed onto one sheet. As for an original edition, whats that all about? it's either an edition or a one off original of one. salespin methinks, must be hard up for a few quid.

I wish i could see the image well enough to make such a judgment.

Obviously some people are making a judgement from a small jpeg by actually buying it, so I think I can be justyfied in having an opinion about it also, after all its not as if it is an oil etc, where it would have a lot more depth and texture, but a print, no dont think so, the image is what it is, very poor!!

new print by antony micallef, by manty on Sept 6, 2008 13:10:38 GMT 1, My point wanst directed at you slagging the image off, and i agree with you about some people buying it but I reckon 40 of them havnt spent more than 20 seconds looking at the image, and have bought it just because of the signature on it.
It really was trying to make the point that I cant really see the pic and there would be no way I could or would spend ยฃ2500 on a pic i cant see clearly, unless of course it was a banksy, which i'll never get the chance of getting because I havnt got the auto page refresh toy that works alongside the "auto buy hi tech ticket tout i won a banksy software" others have here that i cant have because I am too lowtech and drunk to make it all work

surreal critique....random attempts at drawing...hmmmm well lets see it's over looking london he's looking from the south side of the river over to the north...landmarks in place...lights in place...nothing random about that to me....awesome snogging couple...with a great demonic look on the female....its an edition of 50 so not that hard to understand surely? it was created with this in mind not taken from an original that's all

Compared to contemporary artists I could get a nice Peter Doig print for less than what this Micallef retailed for. Peter Doig is just a tad more important than Micallef too. And overall I'm just saying prints aren't typically a 'pot of gold' although they can appreciate and are worth collecting if you're really into it. I just wouldn't expect big things. ...possibly even a loss? And I know Banksy prints went haywire but it's a bit of an oddity in the art world really and personally I think everyone and everything got carried away in this scene last year because they used Banksy as a barometer. To each his own though, I know, I'm just saying...
