Banksy vs. Parla, by robotoil on May 21, 2008 15:43:05 GMT 1, Full poll question.
"Pretend you can own any original by either artist but can never sell it and no one else can ever view it."
Taking money and bragging out of the equation, who would you rather have in your collection?

Banksy vs. Parla, by spirit on May 21, 2008 15:54:16 GMT 1, If value is not an issue and I could never sell it then you are really asking which you would rather have over the course of a whole lifetime. I'd therefore be tempted to take the Parla. In terms of which I'd prefer to have on my wall right now it would probably be the Banksy but in 10/20/50 years time I bet it would probably be the Parla.
As I can't decide can I have a Neate instead?

Thank you for that reply. That is what I am thinking too.

have you noticed that the people who like parla's work tend to be the one's who've seen it in the flesh?. it used to be the same with adam neate, people could'nt understand all the fuss, & then they went to a show & their jaw hit the floor, hand on heart jose's show was the best thing i saw last year, contemorary, street, urban, whatever, that said it would depend on which work was up for choice, there's a lot of banksy's i'd love to own, & some i'd be not too bothered with. as for a list, i could think of a load too, warhol, richard prince, picasso, but none from this genre.

Banksy vs. Parla, by onemandown72 on May 21, 2008 16:21:21 GMT 1, Parla by an absolute country mile. I was fortunate enough to recently see a Parla hung, with a pair of Banky's beneath. The Banksy's looked flat and dull, whereas the Parla blew me away. As noted above see a Parla in the flesh and it is breathtaking
Mind you this is just my opinion

Banksy vs. Parla, by spirit on May 21, 2008 16:23:09 GMT 1, that said it would depend on which work was up for choice, there's a lot of banksy's i'd love to own, & some i'd be not too bothered with.
That's a very good point - as this is a purely theoretical question (for me and my bank balance at least) I took it to mean you could have your favourite piece from either artist.
There are works from both (as well as Neate's) that I wouldn't wouldn't be too bothered about either.

That'd maybe be the case, but having seen a fair few Parla works in the flesh, I 100% stand by my decision. My jaw has always stayed exactly where it was before seeing it.
From this genre I'd rather have a hell of a lot of other stuff than a Parla

I think the poll question is "any original", so you can have any piece you want!!! A nice 6' x 4' Parla then please.

Banksy vs. Parla, by onemandown72 on May 21, 2008 16:48:51 GMT 1, I've got to say that surely the point of this is to share opinions, and then not disagree with someone who prefers one over the other. MM would rather a Banksy, others Parla - I like that and let's respect one another's choice without trying to criticize. This isn't about whether one is good and the other bad, just personal choice as to which you'd prefer.

Banksy vs. Parla, by jackson.earth on May 21, 2008 16:57:08 GMT 1, their styles are completely different, well the work of parla i saw at elms lester last year was anyway, it doesnt make much sense to compare the two. its like asking whether you'd like a new tyre or a new fridge. and if you were asking that, i'd probably go for a new fridge.
parla's work was pretty impressive, that said, i'd much rather own a banksy, simply because most of his pieces have a statement attached to them as opposed to just being nice swirly lines of colour..
altho i'd rather a neate over both of them

Banksy vs. Parla, by beasty on May 21, 2008 16:57:53 GMT 1, Parla for me every time.
Banksy's work is often thought provoking, funny and well executed but I don't see alot of depth to it and therefore not sure i would get the same buzz looking at it everyday for the next 10/20/50 years.
Everytime I look at Jose's work something new seems to pop-out as it's so layered and has real depth to it. There's also a message in there but it's not as straightforward as you maybe get with Banksy, and i like that. Finally, the execution is first class and his work is a joy to have on your wall (if you like his style of course).

Banksy vs. Parla, by ricosg11 on May 21, 2008 17:33:08 GMT 1, Just discussing Jose's work gives me a fuzzy feeling in my soul. Banksy is just too immediate for me and something I have grown quickly bored with. In fact for the most part the whole stencil medium bores me now. So I guess take my opinion with a grain of salt.
