FAILE LAUNCH UPDATE......, by snakes on Aug 22, 2007 23:57:37 GMT 1, FWD from faile:-
Hello everyone,
So I think we finally have the site on track. Thanks again for all the emails, ideas and kind words.
It seems for this August release we are going to stick with the site for now. We are seriously looking into the lottery idea. A lot of you emailed as being in favor of this. So we will try our best to come up with something, work out the logistics and go from there. We do feel that going through the site is just as fair for everyone to have a chance, given you are around a computer at some point (though we know that can be a problem). There is no perfect time to accommodate everyone but we feel that 11AM in NYC is as good a time as any given our side of the world. Sorry to those in Australia and Asia.
We're hoping the server is strong enough. They assure us it will be plenty strong. As a means of added insurance we've rigged a set of stationary bikes here in the studio that our interns will be vigorously riding to generate addition power. We'll try to get some photos up at some point to highlight their efforts.
The print release will be:
New August Print Release -> TUESDAY -> AUGUST 28TH, 2007 (11:00 AM ~ NYC) (4:00 PM ~ London) (8:00 AM ~ Los Angeles) (5:00 PM ~ Berlin) (Midnight ~ Tokyo)
The extra time actually gave us a chance to work on some Originals and a few other prints. So keep an eye out for those. We won't send an email a half hour before this time. This is it.
Thank you again everyone. The site endured 400,000 hits by 11AM last week, that's when they shut us down. So big love to everyone for the support.
Our best, Faile

Snakes there is alot of wankers on here tonight moaning - ignore them.
Obviously the realisation that banksy has let them down recently has led to a crisis of confidence.
Peace batman

FAILE LAUNCH UPDATE......, by Deleted on Aug 23, 2007 13:49:38 GMT 1, whats the difference between giving a heads up on a print by a unknown artist and giving one for the new faile prints ?. snakes would probably have got respect points from lots of people if he had given the heads up on a hidden gem. i dont see it as any difference giving a heads up, to other forum members about the new faile stuff. without this forum yesterday i wouldnt have known about the dolk release(as it goe's it wasn't for me, but at least i was able to look). everything seems to sell so fast nowadays that you don't really have a chance unless you have your eyes glued to a pc all day long and i for one welcome the heads up for any new releases.

Pez - you obviously didn't read Faile's update email properly, they've got interns riding bikes to generate extra computing power. Genius!

FAILE LAUNCH UPDATE......, by dgb133 on Aug 23, 2007 15:06:43 GMT 1, ;D ;D ;D
Oh but unless they upgraded their checkout system they're still going to get a couple hundred payments at paypal for each edition of 12 or whatever and will have to refund about $100,000 or more I'm sure. It's still going to be a headache even if the servers don't crash.
But due to some of the recent price drops on ebay the poor flipping results of strange encounters (although a great print imo) and other recent POW releases and the expected price increase at Faile. Maybe not quite as many people will jump the gun so quick. I definitely have a limit I'll pay for Faile and the images better be strong.

FAILE LAUNCH UPDATE......, by carlito on Aug 23, 2007 15:08:12 GMT 1, this release will go exactly the same way as the last...roll on their lottery idea...
still think it would be better to have a thread asking ppl to PM for the relevant information so at least members have an advantage over lurkers..but hey, who am i kidding the a few hundred extr F5'ers from here probably won't make much difference in the wider scheme of things...

FAILE LAUNCH UPDATE......, by pezlow on Aug 23, 2007 15:09:36 GMT 1, As discussed before I think it would be a good idea if they released previews of the images beforehand, perhaps with pricing details, so that we can decide what we would like to go for. I can probably only afford 1 print so I want to make sure that it is a goody. Number one choice would be if they do another version of yellow pages as I was gutted to miss that last time.

good points dg and certainly very relevant to anyone thinking they'll make $$$ out of the Faile releases

Exactly otherwise it's just, oh well I'd better buy something I think I can swap later or baggers thinking oh I'll get whatever I can. The result being that people don't get what they want / really like and put it on the bay and prices head upwards

FAILE LAUNCH UPDATE......, by brainthedog on Aug 24, 2007 4:58:16 GMT 1, i wonder if all this hype means they're going to raise prices. in other words, what threshold would you be willing to pay for a print? me? $1,000 if it has some custom application on it (paint, coffee, etc.)

its a given there will be a price rise. they have said so to take a cut of the flipper market. expect the cheapest to start at over 500USD and go to treble that.
