Favourite New Micallef Print?, by redfred on Sept 14, 2007 23:22:24 GMT 1, I think that the latest release is absolute TRIPE and its difficult to understand why an artist with his obvious talent would go along this path, therefore buy as much of this rubbish as you want to, but you wont get any satisfaction from it on your walls and I doubt you will make any money when you flip it . Just my opinion, for what its worth.

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by dave313perry on Sept 14, 2007 23:23:07 GMT 1, Ok im going to put a personal cap on this for myself because i should be drinking a beer and watching tele and chilling - we all know (well i do anyway and you should have) why stuey1980 started the thread - to know which prints are the best investments...just read his previous posts, all plugs for information on future investments for his own personal reasons, none of which are my business!! - but unless im like a walking talking sherlock holmes most would suss that anyway.
Im just interested in peoples opinions and ideas of the prints - were a small minority of the collecting world here, we dont bare that much influence, the flippers will always flip and stuey will find out what is the most popular print one way or another. atleast he contributes to a degree and doesnt just lurk....

I don't belive for 1 minute that you're a genuine new member of this forum. You've obviously got some axe to grind, so you must have had a previous account on here.

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by sausageboonwee on Sept 14, 2007 23:27:43 GMT 1, I wont be buying any of the prints as I don't like them. If someone offered me one for nothing and I had to choose the least awful one regardless of value and based purely on artistic merit, idea and general composition. It would be the soldier in the flowery outfit.

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by carlito on Sept 14, 2007 23:28:53 GMT 1, my ideas on the print...initially on viewing I was totally underwhelmed..thought I've seen Peacekeeper already, thought why has he re-done an earlier print with minotaur and wtf are the uzi'a all about,,,
left them alone for a little bit...saw a lot of negativity on here..went back looked again..and found I really liked them! Thought how they'll look in the flesh, full size and actually think these show some great progression are in line with classic Micallef iconography( okay I've been drinking). I think i was originally undewhelmed because they were clearly Micallefs..i'm not sure what i was expecting lol...

don't quite understand the logic of appreciating the remarks of a fool over no comment at all? not condonig lurkers either.
finally getting down to facts, i think minotour weapon only works if you have 21stCL sitting just next door to it, shame there were 95 of that and 400 of this kind of a mis-match
the uzi's are just wierd and kind of repetetive andalthough the peacekeepr is very micallef, i don't know if it would sit too well in most homes

so why not state that in post one instead of post 42? and yet you feel the need to have a go at me, all i'm saying is stand up and be your own man - have an opinion, at least if your honest people will respect that rather than waiting to guage opinion before stating your own?
nowt personal, just spineless wonders wind me up, opinions are only that - they're not fact.

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by bobbyt23 on Sept 14, 2007 23:52:28 GMT 1, I really do like Peacekeeper. Always have. But I have decided I dont like it enough to spend ยฃ1200 on it. It's just too rich for my blood. I'd have to sell one of my other prints to be able to afford it. Will wait and see what POW have to offer us.
I do prefer the JD/FF style anyway so hopefully it will be something like that.

I have to agree Carlito. I wasn't impressed with the first look, although I have always had a soft sport for the 'Peace Keeper' since I first saw it... but it wasn't a new image so I guess that took something away from it for me. I saved the images and came back to see them hours later and I like them quite a bit more now. I am certain they will be great in person for the detail and size. The pair of Uzi Lovers would look great side by side, and the Improvised Minotaur looks better as I look at the details of it and anyone with a 21st should get this to hang by its side. I have a feeling many people will learn to appreciate these after they look at them without the expecting eyes... everybody is comparing the images to what they had envisioned and not judging them for their own merits.

You've got a hell of a way of getting your point across but what you have just said is a very valid argument. People should say what they feel and state their opinions. We are all here to discuss art after all.

Despite returning to them a number of times, they still haven't won me over. I just don't get what Micallef is trying to convey with these pieces. I said this before, but don't the images glorify guns and gun culture? Even if Mic is intending the exact opposite, I'm pretty sure that's how they would come across to most people.
I know the same questions can be posed of the last set of Laz Mic prints, but the compositions were stronger IMO. For me, neither this latest release nor the previous Laz prints (GIRD excluded) come anywhere close to the earlier Eyestorm works.
I'd be interested to hear what message/feelings people think these images convey?
