Favourite New Micallef Print?, by goffy on Sept 15, 2007 14:20:51 GMT 1, [quote wow goffy hats off to you - do you control your purchasing really strictly to ensure there's always room for every purchase? Or do you have a load gathering dust underneath your bed? I'd love to be able to say the same but quite honestly if I never sold anything I'd have too many under my bed and no money to buy any new work... [/quote] What he's saying is he doesn't purchase a print that he has NO intention of putting on his wall, as opposed to buying something with the intention, but then selling it due to a change of mind.
I have about 10 prints in a folder awaiting framing, and you all know how expensive that can be, so it can't all be done at the same time. And obviously space is limited so I have to rotate stuff around, which I like. I don't have a problem with people who sell prints to to fund new work, even to pay off your credit card. It's your property you can do what you like with it. I have sold one print, four years after I bought it, and not for much more than I paid for it. Although I think my wife would like me to sell more.

that would make quite a cool print! I think the way to go would be to definatly get all 3 and frame them together in one frame!

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by sausageboonwee on Sept 15, 2007 16:33:39 GMT 1, How big would that be? The combined cost plus the cost of framing would add up to over ยฃ4k. There is a lot of art I would prefer to spend that kind of money on.

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by pezlow on Sept 15, 2007 19:36:02 GMT 1, My take on these prints - they're not bad. I quite like them, especially Peacekeeper and the minotaur one. But I most certainly will not be buying. ยฃ1175 is too rich for my blood and I only quite like. To be honest not really sure I would be buying even if they were ยฃ300.
It seems to me that since signing with Laz/POW AM seems to think that to appeal to this audience everything he puts out has to have a gun in it. I don't like having pictures of guns etc in my house and they wouldn't get wall space for that reason.
I much prefer the AM eyestorm prints.

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by bobbymeachamjr on Sept 15, 2007 19:40:58 GMT 1, totally agree with the gun comments
to me - even if you like these images enough to buy - they're too fleeting. That is, how long would you have an Xbox Halo figure (peacekeeper) on your wall?

Those are my feelings too. While you can read all manner of socio-political meaning into these works, ultimately when you take a step back you're left looking at some pretty pictures of bulls with automatic weapons. While it may not be Mic's intention, for me these images romanticise guns and gun culture. Not something I agree with.
That said, I do think from a purely aesthetic perspective Uzi Lovers 1 & 2 and Minotaur work better viewed together as a set.

is that true about AM peacekeeper being used in Halo? or is that just another rumour

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by a4mnt on Sept 16, 2007 1:12:34 GMT 1, i've finally read this thread properly after being offline for a few days.......
...all i'm gonna say after all those interpretations of the new Mic's flew over my head, is that i'm going to have to take some extremely strong acid to understand it all and talk nonsense like you lot.
Its a simple like it = but it
don't like it = don't buy it.
Its an instinct. Not a breakdown. if I think about it all too much I'm sure i'm going to ruin it

Favourite New Micallef Print?, by easycraig on Sept 16, 2007 2:44:27 GMT 1, I would have to go with the Peacekeeper as my fav new print... -I can't see myself hanging anything with an Animal-Head on the wall ( unless the in-laws are over.... ) still... at the price of a print... I think I will pass on the peacekeeper but I am sure I will enjoy the show... will try and take pics for the lot of you....
