Adam Neate Show Pic's *SPOILER ALERT*New Pics 7/8, by carlito on Aug 7, 2007 0:32:27 GMT 1, have to say calling them posters is pretty rough really, if there's one thing you say about all Elm's prints is that they all reak of quality even those you don't like...
I've umm'ed and err'd over these two and I have to say they've really grown on me particularly 'come on' i think the photographic element is really refreshing in comparison to the other prints, and definitely an interesting new side to Adam's work

Adam Neate Show Pic's *SPOILER ALERT*New Pics 7/8, by pezlow on Aug 7, 2007 8:43:47 GMT 1, This is going to be a controversial opinion but having looked at them all again I think Deep end is the best Neate print released to date. Neate has the incredible ability to take a relatively simple image and fill it with all sorts of complexities and intringues. For me deep end is the perfect example of that. When I saw all the prints for the first time I was drawn to the self portraits and the bigger picture but as time has gone on I see more and more in this image.
Whether intentional or not I also think that it pays homage to David Hockney, possibly the UK's greatest living painter.

Adam Neate Show Pic's *SPOILER ALERT*New Pics 7/8, by slowmo on Aug 7, 2007 9:18:59 GMT 1, Interesting about the photographic prints and the mixed reviews. Having bought Come on I am biased, but I believe that in the absence of being able to own an original, a collector of Neate should own one of these.
The reason being is that we now have a lot of prints that focus on the portrait (calm fear, tea drinker, 2am blog, cold war continues, self portraits), yet have very little detail in the background. Exceptions are the deep end and I guess bigger picture.
This new approach of using a photograph to base the image on, shows an attempt towards placing his gallery art in the real world, not unlike his street pieces. Perhaps he is trying to show his art as he likes it to be, in a real and open environment. I believe these style of prints will become more common in the future as his style continues to evolve.

I think that sums it up well..
to me the photo background translates really well to giclee and Come On is a strong image.. wasn't so keen on Queens Special. I think Come On is seriously underrated especially as it is the start of Neate trying a new technique. maybe they were not so popular as they are not the 'normal' neate style
for me you lose so much in a print of something like Cold War or blog, it seems so.. flat. its hard to capture the texture of the 3D originals

I never managed to get a hold of this print (something to do with Q).
I'm sure there are folks out there who having bought the print - then see the image and think what happened to the words coming out the the TV - crucial to the overall image.

Did you buy "Come on" with the choice of all 9 available, I'm just interested thats all. I stood there with quite a few people when looking at the prints and some liked the Portraits others 2am etc, but not one liked the Photographic ones. It must have reflected too in the majority croud as they were mostly available the next day where as the others had sold out. The figures themselves are fantastic but the backgrounds IMO overpower the images to much.

Adam Neate Show Pic's *SPOILER ALERT*New Pics 7/8, by slowmo on Aug 7, 2007 14:40:01 GMT 1, Hi ABC, no I did not have a choice of them all. I had a choice of 2am blog, Queens and Come on. At the start of my queue I had a choice of The cold war continues.
If I had a choice of them all and cash permitting, I would have bought come on and the white self portrait. Cash no object, would also have picked up the bigger picture. Was not so keen on Queens, 2am (the mouse positioning looks painfully unrealistic) deep end and actually felt the worst translated of all the prints was the tryptych, it looked very dull when you could look at the original.
On a clear run and knowing I could only afford one and as I do not have any other of his prints, I would have gone for white self portrait (like I said, a collector really should have picked up one of the photograph based prints to give a balance to the rest of their prints).

Adam Neate Show Pic's *SPOILER ALERT*New Pics 7/8, by slowmo on Aug 7, 2007 14:47:25 GMT 1, Just read the rest of your post. I'llexpalin why I bought the come on as I also heard the bad feedback on the image and couldn't understand why. The background makes the image, he floats on it suggesting he is removed from the scene, the halo over his head suggest he is of some other place, yet he is placed in a recognisable environment to anyone that lives in London.
The do not cut out on his body, again suggests alienation. I would say this is an image for anyone who feels they don't fit in. We all (mostly) live mundane lives and most people obey the rules of everyday society. This is a salute to people who are different, come on world, lets be having you cos I'm gonna do things my way.
People just have to get past the montage element and a fxxking amazing image is presented that really goes further than looking good on your wall.
