I think tuftynuts is upset because he is one of the sheep that got over excited and paid more than 3k for a Parla watercolour last year, and Frankie, what's with the blatant bullshit?, you offered me your Parla watercolour for 14k only three months ago!, very short memory no?
Hmmm I don't usually talk to chavs but will have to this time. I like Parlas work and think its worth more then the 3k you are talking about... 12k sounds right to me for a large watercolour. Frankie was kind to offer you one 'if he did' as they are hard to find.

But Chav you should feel blessed and bow to the gods in thanks to even to be offered the rare opportunity to purchase a Parla even if at a greatly inflated price.

Parla wanted - Rare Banksy , by snausages on Mar 14, 2009 18:52:41 GMT 1, yeah the watercolors are really just a handmade varied edition. I think a signed Hand is a more than fair trade for a watercolor. But it's always difficult to match up trade partners. I think you're better off keeping the hand anyway.

From this end of the therapy couch Iโd hazard that some of the haters on here are pissed off because they missed the boat. Freud would put that down to self-loathing. If you hate Parla watercolours so much Chavboy (see above) why were you asking Frankie for a price on one? As for me I am weeping like a tranny on a hormone rush because I wish Iโd bought more Parla. When I first started collecting him (long before you learned to log on) I paid less than ยฃ3k for a canvas and under ยฃ1k for a watercolour. Right now, according to the worldโs oldest established art auction house my Parla pieces are worth 14 times what I paid for them. If it were a toss up (another one for the Freud fans) between your six months dabbling on the Banksy forum and Sothebyโs 265 years in the art market I know whose valuation my insurance company would lean towards. Of course that valuation may change. My opinion on Parla never will. And no matter how much people like you whinge and barrack and diss and b**ch about his work, nothing you say will ever have any bearing on what theyโre worth or what they mean to me. One thing I would say to experts like yourself is go and see a Parla show and then report back from the front line. If you still hate him I promise Iโll meet you and Howlin' in Ikea so we can all browse through the postcards together.
I've been to a Parla show and I've met the man and I'm really not that blown away - especially by him. It's just that the hyperbole and bigging up on this guy is just too much to take sometimes. That and the emotional exaggeration about him makes me feel really icky. It's like a bunch of used car salesmen here pushing this stuff.
And actually according to the worlds oldest auction house a parla painting is worth about 8-12k. According to whatever dealers and or overemotional collectors who bid on it, it's worth about 50k. Big difference.

Parla wanted - Rare Banksy , by Cocteau 101 on Mar 14, 2009 20:06:41 GMT 1, There are some funny comments on this thread most from dickheads who haven't got a fuckin clue what they are talking about. We'll see in time who makes the correct judgement but suffice to say if anyone knows of any 3k watercolours and 5k canvasses let me know and I'll have the lot.

Parla wanted - Rare Banksy , by graeme501 on Mar 14, 2009 20:42:22 GMT 1, there seems to be big divide between the people that like (and maybe own) parla's, and those that think his work is a bit shit, and the consensus seems to be 'if u dont agree with me your an idiot' and also with artistic merit being judged by money - it all seems a bit daft, there is no right or wrong answer, only personal taste
i like parla's works, but dont see much progression in all the years he has been about, the watercolours are very nice, but do all look the same
and yes i have seen both original canvas and watercolours at galleries ect..

spot on Graeme, good post.
I don't agree with your comments at the end regarding his watercolours but as you say, it's all down to personal taste. I personally prefer his canvas work to the watercolours but wouldn't swap either for a Banksy print. Again, just down to my own taste.
The Sotheby's auction still smells a bit fishy to me though.

Parla wanted - Rare Banksy , by Winter on Mar 14, 2009 21:24:11 GMT 1, I think the Sotheby's auction seemed a fair price. There was a fair bit of incentive to help it reach a higher price.

Parla wanted - Rare Banksy , by dkla on Mar 14, 2009 21:37:15 GMT 1, I'd keep the signed Banksy HAND over the Parla watercolor. I like Parla's work to be sure, yes have seen it in person and would enjoy one on my wall. But Banksy is on a different level, in a different league and is written into the art history books for all time. A signed HAND is more of a treasure in my mind and I'd actually do the reverse swap if I had a Parla watercolor. Granted if you already own a lot of Banksy and are looking to diversify and add another dimension to your collection, then I understand...

Parla wanted - Rare Banksy , by Francis on Mar 14, 2009 21:37:43 GMT 1, I think if the Soteby's auction was "legit", with only interested real collectors bidding, it would go for around $14k US. Still well over the estimate.
You can trade 2 signed Banksy prints for a Parla original today, but if you wait a couple of years, you can probably find a good bit of folks trading 1 for 1 straight up.

I think calling people dickheads etc, doesnt really help, if you are so confident in the self knowlegde that Parla is the way to go, why get so upset by a few remarks, why not just sit back and smile confidently? I personally like some of his work, but do think that the few auctions we have seen of his work have been dissapointing, and that is not taking into account some of the perhaps dubious bids from people ,gallerys etc who have a vested interest in his work, and, frankie, please dont quote figures inclusive of all fees as they distort the figures tremendously, the bottom line should be what the seller recieves, that gives a fair indication of price, and going by that the prices that elms etc charge are way way over the top. With this thread it will be intersting to see who stands the test of time, Banksy or Parla!!! in the meantime enjoy them both.

It's not a question of whether Banksy will stand the test of time. The question is will Parla also, like Banksy, stand the test of time. I don't know the answer to that part of the equation, nor does anybody at this point in time.

indeed a good post graeme. summed up perfectly
the parla boat did indeed pass me by tuftynuts but i had a good look around when it stopped at howlinharbour and i let it sail away. a bit like when i'm in a queue for a taxi and one of those nasty london taxi pulls up. you know the metrocab? the really boxy london taxi that looks nothing like a london taxi so you let it pass and wait for a proper one. believe me i have grapes but they are definitely not the sour kind. i have an opinion. i also dont get the moonie like following parla seems to attract. to me it seems people are not actually defending parla the artist but protecting parla the commodity.
see if you can retort without bringing my pen is into it.

Parla wanted - Rare Banksy , by Cocteau 101 on Mar 15, 2009 0:43:33 GMT 1, My use of the word dickhead was a comment on the ill informed and poorly researched comments that litter the Parla threads lately. Lou - I do sit back confidently and smile thanks. and Graeme is right it's about personal taste. Outandabout - you should go to a Parla show, you won't hear any bullshit just people mesmerized by some amazing art.

Daniel Silk โข The number or Boards and Threads continues to fall as we simplify the layout of the forum.
Daniel Silk โข I hear a lot of Artists complaining about Instagram in the past year, how it used to be a good tool for Artists, but it's not good anymore, is that true?
anyaart โข For Brett Kern fans, I noticed there is a spinosaurus for sale on E-Bay. It's a limited edition, one of only 60 made. This is the rarest of his dinosaurs. I am not the seller. I already have the same dino purchased in 2016. I've never seen one up for sale
Daniel Silk โข Apology โข Sorry I have been offline this past few weeks, due to a very bad Fever. I'm slowly getting better, step by step, and catching up with things here on the forum on the days I'm well enough. Thank you for your understanding.
Boy Wonder โข I read that they were more or less nicked the same day they went up. Loads of fakes exist.
milou2 โข Would love to see any photos of Banksy's first exhibition at the Severnshed in Bristol (2000). Who was there?*
jirr โข Hi all, over here in the states. Pandemic put me out of business, need to sell this asap. Please send offers thanks so much
matgab โข Steven Harrington - Gotcha first ed for sale.
1nkling โข I can't help but think that a more reasonable tier for people who just want to support the work you guys do would raise more income. Then other tiers for those that want specialist benefits.
1nkling โข As soon as I saw the heading for the email I thought 'Oh yeah, I use that place a lot. I'd happily support it'. Not at ยฃ40 a month though. I have a paid sub for a Formula 1 site I use that is very active. They have a high uptake on subs at ยฃ12 a year.
1nkling โข Pricing on the new supporters sub seems a bit poorly thought out. ยฃ40 a month to have a pinned sale thread being the only listed benefit?
Daniel Silk โข The forum now has more than half the number of Boards than it had a year ago! As we work towards simplifying the layout.
ashj52 โข Hi everyone; does anyone know where I may be able to find a George condo prism print? Any guidance on price would also be much appreciated! I contacted AA, they said they cannot disclose whether there will be any further drops this year.
