I think $350 is a far price as well for an edition of 150.

I'm not disagreeing, as I feel most prints by most artists are selling for too much at the moment. However, it's worth baring in mind that this price actualkly represents a very significant price DROP from Choe and OES. How many other galleries/artists are doing that at the moment, when probably they ALL should be in this economic climate...??

I don't get it...how do they get $350 for a electronic print..? That's $525,000 for getting somebody to take a photo with a nice camera and pressing the print button...I obviously don't understand the process cos it cant be that easy to print money.....is it..?

David Choe - "Dark Circles", by anthoz on Nov 28, 2008 13:55:48 GMT 1, From Wikipedia
"Artists tend to use these types of inkjet printing processes commonly called "Giclée" to make reproductions of their original two-dimensional artwork, photographs or computer generated art. Professionally produced inkjet prints are much more expensive on a “per print” basis than the traditional four color offset lithography process originally used to make such reproductions (a large format inkjet can cost more than $50 a print, not including scanning and color correction, as opposed to $5 a print for a four-color offset litho of the same image printed in a run of 1000). "

Can I just confirm that Lithography is indeed screen printing? I ask as wikimedia dos'nt think so. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithography) And I also think that it needs to be clarifyed that if you were to screen print a print in excess of 4 colours, would it then cost more than the digital print alternative? The above print is in excess of 4 colours...
Whats my point..? I dont see the work that is required to produce a good screen print required for a giclee print. Other than keyboard skills using control P I cant see the value or skill in a giclee...Just my opinion and I could be way off the mark...im happy to be shown other wise..

completely agree, never been a fan of computer prints (using a french word for it doesn't help imo) I wonder if I took a picture of a really really stunning artwork like Rembrant's Night Watch, then ran some copies off on my epson i could get £150 a pop? ... can't see why not... the rembrant is a world renowned masterpiece, and if a computer print of this image is worth what they are charging, I should imagine a computer print of a Rembrant should be worth a few quid

Think I have taken this thread off topic. This wasn't meant to be a dig at any individual studio. For that I apologise. I have started a new thread.

David Choe - "Dark Circles", by dill on Nov 28, 2008 14:39:57 GMT 1, I am not having a dig at anyone... particularly a studio I haven't yet heard of! I am just saying I still cant get my head around computer prints of artworks... the debate has gone on about this, and most people seem to disagree with me, but a computer print in my mind is more a photo of some art. purely a personal perspective

In addition to suggesting you investigate how much more goes into creating a giclee, particularly by Andrew Jackson at Outer Edge Studios, than just simply "Taking a photo with a nice camera and pressing the print button', you might want to brush up on your maths too. Your right my maths is shocking...that should read 52,500 soss
