This has been a crazy year for me. First I was on the front cover of a Sunday supplement with the heading 'Move Over Banksy', which can't have gone down that well. Then things really blew up. In February, my show in Los Angeles sold out overnight and people were phoning from all over the world trying to get a piece. While that was going on, people were ringing me up from London saying: 'You'll never guess what!' A work of mine called Moona Lisa had gone for ยฃ54,000 - 10 times the estimate - at the first-ever urban art auction at Bonhams. And when I got back from LA, everything had sold out on my website as well.
In the past, street art has always been labelled as graffiti, which people associated with vandalism. Then Banksy started selling works for extreme amounts of money after his LA show. It only takes one person to open the doors and everyone starts flying in. Now places like the Tate [which put on the exhibition Street Art last summer] are recognising what we're doing as an art form. It's a step forward.
You get a lot of people saying street art is only going to be around for a certain amount of time, but I think if your work's strong enough it can be around for the long term. A lot of people have been jumping on the bandwagon in the past few years, having a pop at stencil art, but the general consensus is that most of them will fall off the back, leaving just the key people. Hopefully I'll be one of those. You're only as good as your last album, and right now I've got to do a sharp left and pull something out of the bag that no one's seen before.

It is like watching a master. But then he has had 20 years practise.
Totally agree... I was lucky enough to get out to Nicks show in LA and watch a load of the preparations, a true master of his trade.... I'm sat here looking at my Lifes to Short and it's truely inspiring... happy dayz ;D Can't wait to see what Nicks 'left hand turn' takes him in '09

IMO there were no 'credible' members who actually 'slated' Nick and his work, a couple offered genuine and objective opinion which was worth a read.
Anyone who went to his show at BRP could see how genuine he was and how accommodating of all those who wanted to speak to him!

It currently resides at the top of the staircase. It was quite a day! Got there at around 5.30am after walking from my friends apartment in Westminster. Met some great people that day including Nick Walker himself who bought a large round of drinks for the lucky 76 or so hardy soles. Had a fabulous day and saw an absolutely fantastic show. My highlight of 2008 for sure! Same again for 2009 please Mr Walker. Hope to get my mitts on a TMA New York next year!

er, because there's a "high demand print" going on sale & it could sell out during the evening
if you can't blag a ticket from one of the 100+ exhibitors then just pay to get in like everyone else has to do (ยฃ25)
if you're not interested in the print, save a few quid & go on one of the other days (14th-18th @ ยฃ11)
