Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by bunnyboy on May 29, 2009 8:50:41 GMT 1, TMA Tower Bridge was ยฃ4200 or so, I think. Sold before the doors opened. The prints were editions of 50 with 35 available on the night - so 15 for the lottery in theory.
Personally, I thought the prints look much better in the flesh than in the book. I also think the boat / ape image ties in quite well with the fact that this show is about marking the end of a period of his career. It's called A New Dawn - the vandal sailing off into the sunset towards the old logo / tag? That's what I thought anyway, and I think it will be a nice reminder of the show / time. Quite a few other pieces were on this theme - for example, the Moona Lisa has the date of a show on her arse (the LA show?) and is called Turning Point or something similar.
On the whole, I thought the show was cool. Nick was asked to produce images for a book using two colours. He sold the originals used to produce the book at the book's launch show. Makes sense to me and a nice idea. Some pieces were great, some just good but I agree, there were some space fillers. Good night as usual though..

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by kennas on May 29, 2009 9:01:37 GMT 1, I would be amazed if all 15 made it into the overseas lottery, with none being held back for artists friends, family etc. Perhaps more like 10?

I reckon anyone who thinks this is goodbye to the Vandal is going to be very wrong...

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by rosstierney on May 29, 2009 9:48:46 GMT 1, "AM: So Is this the end of the much loved characters like the Vandal and the Apish Angel?
NW: Not completely the end - the Apish Angel character is something I dreamed up in Bristol in 1998 but I want to move away from that. As to the Vandal character, Iโve just finished the last of The Morning After series which is Moscow and then the final move for the Vandal is deciding on his suitable demise."

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by Sundowner on May 29, 2009 9:57:11 GMT 1, I thought the show was good - a retrospective of all Nick's classic works done so far in a themed style. I don't think people should be getting too hung-up on the work - the show is serving a purpose, to close a period in Nick's artistic life so he can move onto something new.
The stand-out pieces for me were Tower Bridge (ยฃ4,750), Procrastination (ยฃ2,200) and the Vandal leaning against the park bench (ยฃ2,250). All of these were sold before the show opened.
Mike and BRP did a great job of organising the queue and were very hospitable offering drinks to those waiting during the afternoon. It was very good natured and I was really pleased to get a New Dawn print (my first Walker) which looked great.

Nick Walker - Show - BRP - 28th May, by Deleted on May 29, 2009 10:26:23 GMT 1, I quite like the dude rowing the boat, but dont get the ape bit. Why is there an ape there? huh?
as this book/show is about putting an end to one part of a career. i am guessing that the Apish Angel is representing a setting sun and with the vandal rowing off into the distance both parts of the career come to and end. maybe its more complicated than that, but i don't think so.
