IS MY D*FACE WORTH A BANKSY?, by funkyou on Aug 15, 2009 6:58:54 GMT 1, This is a call for help from all you experts out there! I am well aware the market is rock bottom at the moment, so want some advise about value/swap potential of my Dface original. I would really like to straight swap this for an earlier signed Banksy print...or possibly a more recent signed print + cash. Any advise/offers? As D*face goes (love or hate him) I think this is a really strong image and very unique. Its 28 x 36 inches on museum board and painted in acrylic..

IS MY D*FACE WORTH A BANKSY?, by craigf on Aug 15, 2009 8:33:28 GMT 1, Zippy recently sold a DFace canvas so he is in the position to be able to confirm for at least that piece whether it would get you a signed early Banksy or not. My gut feel for this piece is value wise you it is defintely worth the price of a recent signed Banksy plus some change, but I don't think it is worth the same as a classic early signed Banksy. I think you would have more luck selling and then buying than swapping, but that's not to say there isn't someone out there who would do a swap ;D

But with that said, you know as well as I do that you have one very special piece from D*face there, don't let anyone try and tell you any different...

I dont think its fallen out at all, banksy has dropped like all the artists have because those pricks who were making a buck are being f**ked over.
That was proved at the recent nick walker show where the work was s**te but still going for loads.
Like all things these artists get more recognition around their shows and there is one coming up for D in NY next month which will get our U.S cousins buzzing so to be honest, an original like that is probably a good swap for a signed banksy - maybe a donuts / Very Little Helps / trolleys plus ยฃ500-ยฃ700 cash.

it would not sell for that at auction im sorry to say, no where near.

selling for 2k you would be crazy to do... no one has 5k + to spend at the moment as times still pretty hard but everything goes in cycles and 2-3 years time think you will regret letting it go...
my viewpoint is for me three top uk artists ....

all the above artists had strong fanbases before last year when things got little crazy where as artists that broke through last year not all there fanbase but portion was speculative because everyone was looking for the next banksy / walker etc...
in the worsed economic crisis most of us have been through i still think above artists have held there value pretty well... remember dface pop tart selling at bonhams and everyone was buying his stuff up and that auction went for 4-5k? put the same art piece in auction now would think still go for 4-5k...
business point of view breaking into the american market is probably hardest thing for artist to do but i think his style will be appreciated alot over there and really has a platform to show a strong body of work that will create alot of excitement...
9 months or so working on this show and if being honest would love to see connection in his art pieces to adverts etc over there... always thought as some others have said if his last show was in the states think would have made a great impact....
could be his next show absolutely stinks and gets completely wrong but i think his humor in art pieces and his own unique take on current climate etc will be something that will gain alot of interest over there...
hoping he will spend little more time after the show in the states and does some stuff with shep but maybe wishful thinking...
say keep and enjoy it for its beauty ....s
