Habitat Art Frames, by aj on Nov 4, 2007 9:37:11 GMT 1, lol ok then...any reason??
Because it's a bloody nightmare! it's a sodding day out for the girlfriend and once your in you can't get out! it's a confusing maze of chaos and evil (and thats just the car park) they lull you in with the sweet smell of meatballs! (how much! ) Then you fight your way through the crazed women armed with tape measures and supper sharp pencils, barking orders at middle aged men losing the will to live. Then theres the warehouse it's not rocket science! that would be easy. rows and rows of codes and numbers, bit like the matrix. Add to all that a few hundred zombie staff, ands thats ikea.

Habitat Art Frames, by jellya on Nov 4, 2007 10:52:59 GMT 1, lot of rage about the habitat frames...anyone tried ikea frames? need to frame quite a few cheaper pieces and heading to ikea soon...are they as good as they habitat ones?
They are definitely inferior to the Habitat frames. They are cheap for a reason, and as the saying goes you definitely get what you pay for. The glass is brittle and rough, so watch your hands. The little clasps that hold the back board in tend to decay and snap, leaving you with no frame at all!

Habitat Art Frames, by Mister Frame Man on Nov 4, 2007 11:39:21 GMT 1, Hey Mike,
Why not order 5x frames from me? If you use a standard size 60x80, then that is great proving you have a 50x70 image (Not paper size). If not your mount will not be even width all round! Why not measure the size aperture that you want, allow 50mm for your mount and order frames to fit that mount. I can do this for around £30-35 each for a basic frame and a conservation mount for you to fit yourself.
I don't only do museum/conservation framing!!!

Thought you might like to see one in an actual habitat frame (80x60). This was a graphite finish frame that was about £20 (ish), was as cheap and as good as I could find.

yep i can confirm that the glass is as sharp as razor blades. i didn't even know i had cut myself until i looked at my blood covered hands with four long deep cuts in them. lucky i didn't have a banksy print underneath just some plop plop stuff i did myself.

Habitat Art Frames, by stradled on Oct 20, 2008 15:32:46 GMT 1, This may be a silly question, but I am slightly confused. I bought a couple of large picture frame for prints from Habitat (Montreal frame 50x70) and I have put my prints into it and was ready to put it on the wall.
Unlike other prints that I have had framed, the habitat ones dont come with any hanging device on the back of it, could someone please point me in the direction of getting the additional pieces to attach to frame to hang it securly on the wall.

Habitat Art Frames, by Happy Shopper on Feb 8, 2010 11:53:01 GMT 1, I think it'd fit, maybe, but with very little boarder. I'd want something with UV glass myself, unless you're keeping them in the dark.

Habitat Art Frames, by Daniel Silk on Apr 6, 2010 15:43:44 GMT 1, Had a look round Habitat yesterday and noticed some picture frames called "Aluminus". Thing that might be useful is that the back is sort of held in by spring clips, so you could add small spacers to get the print away from the glass, and the spring clips had room to do give you that extra bit of space

Habitat Art Frames, by shinybrite on May 2, 2010 21:32:30 GMT 1, It's not a good idea to try & install a spacer in a metal frame, as all of the elements are held in by pressure from the clips, you could get uneven pressure across the glass, and when you move it around the glass may break; the space in the back of the frame is for the clips not a spacer. Consult a good framer first.
Best - Jack

Habitat Art Frames, by shaunq on Sept 16, 2010 18:04:53 GMT 1, Bazzj - some of the Habitat frames are ok for any cheaper prints if you're not too fussed about spending loads of cash on a bespoke frame.
But watch out and check the condition before you buy, as it seems Habitat staff play footy with them instore before putting them in the racks. Loads of scuffs/dinks to watch out for !
Also, they do some quite good double glass frames, so you can float a print in it, but you need to check the corners of the wooden surround are firmly glued. I bought 2 and had to return them both cos they came apart as soon as put a print in them. Just try pulling them a bit and you'll see if they're up to the job or not.
hope my opinion helps !

Habitat Art Frames, by shaunq on Sept 17, 2010 9:58:10 GMT 1, Like you say, they're good as a temporary measure, then you can use them for something else if you wanna get pics up on the wall quick.
Problem is, you need to make sure any decent prints or OGs go into a decent frame at some point, rather than leaving them in a cheap'n'cheerful frame, if only for the sake of the health of the artwork.
I'm searching for antique frames myself, but most are either too knackered or way too expensive.
Does anyone know of a good supply of antique frames ( gilted/silver/wood ideally ). Need all sizes small to fairly large. Ideally in a store so can go and check them out rather than trying to figure from online pictures ?

Habitat Art Frames, by johngc on Apr 22, 2011 17:53:09 GMT 1, Hi guys,
I have framed a few of my prints in Baccal frames, and very nice they look too. However, how do you get them on the wall without a string or wire being visible through the glass when strung across it's wisth? You can't, right?
In which case what do you do to get them safely on the wall, without using string across the back?

Thanks for the hook advice, Charlie. I guess I'll try that then. You'd have to be very accurate though as (unlike string) it probably doesn't allow much room to micro-adjust the frame if one side is slightly lower than the other!?

You can get good strong line that is really small.
