Habitat Art Frames, by manchestermike on Nov 3, 2007 14:04:54 GMT 1, I have 5 monsters to frame and without spending a chunk on getting them custom framed I'm going the habitat route.
I'm pretty sure the prints are 70x50 so does that mean I'll need an 80x60 Habitat frame or do their 70x50 ones have room

Hey Mike,
if you want them in a frame without a mount, then the 70x50 frame will fit your prints perfectly, but as I am sure you know, they will be touching the glass, which is not a long term solution.
the 80x60 will fit a nice 5cm wide mount all the way round.

Habitat Art Frames, by buster on Nov 3, 2007 14:11:20 GMT 1, you should have room mike, but might be better measuring the prints to double check, and the frame in the shop. I know Frame ( similar idea to athena in the day) do 50/70 witha wee bit extra (3-5mmm) just incase. Good luck and lest see em when yer done.

The Habitat 70x50's fit 70x50 prints just right but you dont get any extra room round the edge if you want a boarder then yeah, your gonna need to go for the bigger ones.
I think those white ones with the glass backs are bigger, so they say 70x50, but they are actually bigger ;D

Habitat Art Frames, by andrewd on Nov 3, 2007 14:14:25 GMT 1, the 70 x 50's will only allow you to have the edge of the print touching the edge of the frame. i.e there is no room for a mount so you'll probably need the 60x80's. I've used Habitat frames in the past and got a local art shop to cut a few mounts without taking the prints in and then buying a roll of conservation taping and taping your prints in. As you know you'll need a backing mount board and make sure to tape the back up to stop insect ingress! Habitat sell little boxes of hooks and picture wire etc. Best of luck!

Buster is also right in that the 50x70 usually have a couple of mm give. I bought some from Athena and they are deisgned to fit 50x70 prints, not be 50x70.

I've got one of those white, double glass ones and Silky is right - they are designed for a 50x70 print, but thats to have a border round them - they actually measure 60x80 - meaning they are quite good for odd sized prints such as trolleys!

Habitat Art Frames, by Daniel Silk on Nov 3, 2007 14:49:39 GMT 1, A while back it seemed Habitat changed its supplier of the black frames and the new ones are crap Make sure you have a good look down the pile and get one were you can see the grain of the wood they are the good ones ;D if its smooth with no grain dont touch it they are crap! I complained about them, and was told they had been getting loads of complaints about them and were gonna try going back to the old supplier ;D

I managed to get a bunch of 50x50's from habitat via a store transfer from the Kings Road branch, they were heavily discounted too. The guy also said they had "100's" of larger frames in the basement that were discounted and were able to store transfer them.
It would be worth calling the Kings Road branch and asking to be put through to the basement
Hope this helps

Habitat Art Frames, by gozgoz on Nov 3, 2007 16:36:57 GMT 1, my 2cents:
some of the frames featured in their catalouge have been discoontinued.. i tried to get one 50x50 ones and they are not gonna be done anymore.. so if i were u, i'll call them up.
also, a silly story here. but erm. its glass in front and not plastic.
yes, i sound like a bimbo. but im brave and i'll tell this story.
as i was fitting in my BAST, i thought it was plexi plastic type ting and i ended up with a bloody hand and a carpet full of glass shards. 20 mins before guests were coming for my housewarming party.
word of advice: (1) dont ever try to do last minute framing to show off. (2) gadddaaamn glass looks like plastic.
