Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by alexdb on Sept 27, 2016 8:44:48 GMT 1, Just out of curiosity but is it common that framers can do this kind of job? Or do you really need specialized restorers for this kind of job?
I know my framer is able to flatten a print. One time he didn't flatten the work fully since it was a partial water colour print which would damage the work he said. I thought that was a good suggestion and having good knowledge. I just have no idea how to restore a rippled print.

I'd def say it's an added specialism rather than the norm. Any great framed should flatten prints proficiently but this type of work is a dedicated skill...

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by oxfordwelshchap on Sept 27, 2016 12:14:34 GMT 1, Yer framers are definitely not alike. Before I knew better I used a different framer who taped down one of my cept prints. Gutted I didn't have the knowledge to go to a pro back then.

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by iamzero on Sept 27, 2016 12:50:12 GMT 1, I've spoken to framers that have a hot bed to dry mount prints and they can use the to flatten out ripples apparently. And no I don't mean by actually dry mounting it. The warm air and humidity is enough... like a big iron.

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by South Bound on Nov 26, 2016 18:11:37 GMT 1, I have a print that has ripples in it. Are those going to come out eventually? depends on the cause of the ripple, the type of paper, etc.
I have a Vhils which has such a large amount of ink and bleach that I flattened it and after a few weeks the ripples came back. But I can handle the ink induced ripple.

It was rolled but was pressed up against the sides of the box so it resulted in these annoying imprints every 6 or so inches. Didn't pay much for the print but will need to have it replaced.

How do you know if it's acid free. Does 2 big piece of Plexiglas can make the job ? Im not in a hurry and can let them like this a couple of months if needed.

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by The Observer on Mar 25, 2017 1:37:32 GMT 1, I am having trouble getting the Linea framed. Wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I wanted to float it, but the frame shop said due to it being rolled and the plastic back the edges won't lay flat with conservation tape. It's been flattening for a few weeks now. They suggested I have it matted but mentioned that due to the full bleed an 1/8 inch of the print will be covered. Any suggestions? I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by mtntomtom on Mar 25, 2017 8:13:31 GMT 1, Hello guys,
I would need your help to buy a plastic portfolio. So far, I have stored my prints in a cardboard folder but I would like to change to a "more professional" solution.
What would be your advice in terms of size? Given the fact that most of the prints are less than 80x60cm I was thinking about a A1 format (59,4 x 84,1 cm) or AO (84,1 x 118,9) but I guess too big.
Would you have any link with best deals? I am not only looking for price but more for quality.
Cheers

Strong, durable and rigid to help both gently flatten and keep prints secure. I bought a bargain lot of A0 & A1 but usually they are expensive. You can order direct from manufacturer and better if get friends who need some to help save on shipping - they're heavy!

There is lots of advice online but patience seems to be the best practice.

Leave it to flatten for a bit longer and maybe try a better framer...

Agree mine was tubed and stuck fine. Mark at pfg would have no issues doing this. As the back is plastic I doubt you even need to go bonkers on conservation

I floated mine and it was fine just came off the hinges first time due to the weight. PFG did mine I'm sure he'll be happy to help if he's not too far from you.
