Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by GMA on Oct 11, 2017 9:22:59 GMT 1, I had three prints that needed to be put into a portfolio, problem I had was I didn't have the portfolio or sleeves hah. I got those yesterday, two of the prints were in the tubes for about 3 months, the other one not so bad. The difference in curl was pretty obvious. But I basically just put them into the sleeves, into the portfolio and this has been stored flat. I'll check what they look like in a few weeks and let you know. But this should be enough I'd have thought!

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by Beetle Bum on Oct 16, 2017 9:33:02 GMT 1, Now I am worried. I have some prints that have been in tubes for years, (took a break from collecting, moved country, had kids...) and now getting back into it. Do you think by having them stored for so long they would be ok, mostly prints I would have bought from POW or Graffiti Prints. I basically put them back into their tubes when I had to move. Thanks

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by alex1 on Dec 11, 2017 10:40:28 GMT 1, I kept/stored some of my prints in tubes due to space limitations. I decided to purchase Selwyns print sleeves. Can I keep the prints in those sleeves for storage? Do I need an additional layer of acid-free tissues between the print and the front? Can i place the prints into the sleeve for flattening or would I need to flatten them first? Do you guys have a recommended case for proper storage of the sleeves?
thanks for your help, Alex

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by tonys on Dec 11, 2017 10:56:21 GMT 1, A larger Faile print I had for a year in the tube had to be flattened for 6 months, yes it can take that long.
My framer gave me some card and mounts that the print slipped into and it certainly helped.

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by calnew on Mar 11, 2019 15:49:29 GMT 1, Will a acid free mount prevent the print edges from changing colour overtime ?
Also does that happen more often with screen prints or gicleeโs.
I would be very thankful if someone could answer these questions.

I think it's the difference between the part of the print that's exposed to sun, vs the part under the mount that isn't, that causes the difference in colour. You should always use acid free anyway.

Iโm no expert and could be wrong, but I have understood there are two causes of such discolouration. One is sun bleaching, and the other is mount burn. The later is caused by not using archival acid free mount board. The cause if the former needs no explanation.

Coach nailed it, bleaching is caused by UV damage, mat burn is from acidic framing materials. Separate causes similar result in terms of what the damage looks like.

I have also been advised by an art restoration specialist that no matter what the grade/quality of the mount, if its coloured then it will bleed on to white paper over time regardless.

Just to add this has happened to me, and unfortunately with some Banksys for using black mounts. Leaving a subtle shadow from archival mounts. I have seen many more prints out there framed with black mounts.

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by firstimer on Mar 12, 2019 10:09:16 GMT 1, Just the thread I'm looking for. Before I purchase - can someone give me advice on if these waves/ripples can be easily fixed?
When I asked the gallery about it, their response has been: "The paper waving is caused by the mounting and would disappear without remains if taken off of the supporting cardboard. There is no damage here."
Does this mean if i get it remounted and reframed, I should be good? It's a fairly large print. About 50" x50".

I echo this
Waves in the paper to me is normal, a lot of nick Walker prints do this, I believe this was down to the ink thickness and on paper. I still think the nick walker prints are of excellent quality, I donโt mind weaving in paper if I was buying a print eg if itโs a print with lots of layers and thick ink (if thatโs a thing)

So I think if this is the look you want then the approach would be to have foam board (which would be hopefully archival/museum grade) between the artwork and the black mount, to have the artwork raised slightly from the mount. Your print then wouldnโt be touching the black mount. For me personally I wouldnโt worry too much about the back but think the above is a suitable approach. Graham could advise

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by vei on Mar 18, 2019 21:02:04 GMT 1, I bought a framed โGod I want to be badโ at auction on Friday at a bargain price. I really didnโt realise how big it was until I picked it up!!! Never gave it a thought.
It was float mounted so has some sight waves in it.
If I want rid of the waves will flattening between card fix it?

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by Lord Lucas Roham on Nov 18, 2019 12:01:08 GMT 1, I've just noticed this rippling on my Sale Ends, it's float mounted but has a slight gap at the top of the print.
I can only see it in a certain light. is it anything to worry about? It looks ok from this angle:
My room is pretty cold (Old Victorian House) but it's hung using spacers and has plenty airflow behind the frame.
