Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by Denis Bloch Fine Art on Sept 29, 2015 20:07:29 GMT 1, The water spraying scares me a bit too much. The print took me a couple of years to find so I don't want to risk damaging it I wouldn't do this on my own with anything valuable. Sometimes even the water that you have coming out of your pipes has chemicals that could react with the print's inks. Professional restorers usually have elaborate filtration systems with copper pipes etc.
If you really want your beautiful and valuable art print to be flattened properly you should take it to a professional.

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by jusdeep on Sept 29, 2015 20:20:33 GMT 1, I wasn't actually talking about physically glueing the work to a mount. The material I was referring to is a type of conservation fibreboard lined with a coating that when heated under low temperatures adheres, is fully reversible without any damage and is used by many galleries, high-end framers and museums. I was sceptical at first but found it to be very effective on large (heavy) prints and prints that may be prone to movement or waving. I would certainly not use this method on all artworks - there may be more appropriate ways of framing depending on size, paper, medium, household positioning etc.

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by The Silence on Oct 11, 2015 2:02:07 GMT 1, Oh wow. I have a large number of prints in their rolls. They always came like this - time to start flattening. Will also get a portfolio. *hits head*. Well better to learn now. Luckily the most valuable are stored flat or framed properly but better that all are stored flat I've learnt!

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by DMH on Oct 12, 2015 13:25:54 GMT 1, Does anyone have a suggestion in terms of whether you need acid free paper when using a plastic portfolio or not? Have just bought one and have quite a few things to go in that haven't quite made the wall yet. Do you need to tissue each print?

No not necessary just make sure your portfolio poly sleeves are acid free, also the dividing paper that comes with the sleeves.

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001ACFFO8?ref_=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t
It mentions the sleeve backing paper is acid free, but no mention of the poly sleeve itself being acid free. I would presume so though if they are going to the effort of including acid free backing?

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by fishandchips on Mar 23, 2016 10:20:05 GMT 1, I'm not sure any amount of storing flat will completely remove those creases but they might be able to be removed professionally. Try Graham Bignell Studio (http://www.grahambignellstudio.co.uk/). Send them the photo and ask how effective their flattening process might be

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by Howard Johnson on Mar 23, 2016 20:31:23 GMT 1, Take them to your local restorationist. It will run you around 90$ but will defiantly be worth it if you plan to frame and enjoy them. Be very careful if you attempt to iron them, I did this with a banksy save/delete poster and ended up discoloring the back a bit (although it did come out nice and flat afterwards). Good luck!

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by oxfordwelshchap on Sept 25, 2016 23:57:37 GMT 1, Hey all, Some advice would be much appreciated.
I bought a print of a chap who had stored it in a tube for like 3 yrs. The print is a D face with those massive edges. The image itself is pristine but the edges (white parts) are totally rippled. Iv been trying to flatten them with some books but the rippling hasn't really changed. Shall I take this to an expert? Or get it framed considering the image is perfect?
Any advice much appreciated

Flattening Prints โข Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by Pipes on Sept 26, 2016 0:27:37 GMT 1, I don't believe so - I think the paper fibres need to be pressed after humidifying.
But if "sorting it out" is just hiding the ripples then framing the ripples out would be the cheaper option.
