Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by pimp on Jul 10, 2008 16:09:17 GMT 1, Do not use tape to frame! Mylar strips or corners all the way... I would never put tape on such an expensive print.
japanese hinging tape is the best you can get. no marks and totally acid free. Granted, gaffa tape may leave a residue.
spenie, your welcome.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Gentle Mental on Jul 10, 2008 17:48:48 GMT 1, mylar corners are safe but a bitch to use, as they are tiny, and could only hold so much of a corner, tough if the print is anything larger than 50 x70 and of really heavy paper...
One of my giclee was so heavy, that over time, it forced the corners to "pop" off its mylar holder, causing the entire print to collapse inside the frame. it was nightmarish.
Try bagsunlimited.com they have corners and tapes... heard good things about Lineco (haven't used it yet)

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by kronoopus on Aug 25, 2008 18:25:14 GMT 1, I am interested in framing an inexpensive print myself. I am going to buy a pre-matted frame at a craft store. My question is what should I use to "stick" the print so it stays in place. Acid free tape? Hinges? Any info would help.
Thanks!

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by snakes on Aug 25, 2008 22:50:23 GMT 1, Just use low strength masking tape from Homebase. I have and it has caused no damage on some of my prints, which were done many years ago which is more than said for some of the damage i have seen been done by use of conservation tape by some 'Professional' framers!
Don't take my word for it however - try contacting misterframeman on this forum for his advice which will be much better.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by imbue on Nov 30, 2009 22:14:20 GMT 1,
Finally picked up my INSA print on Friday and took it to a shop to get it framed up. I picked up the framed print today and it looked great. When I got it home I realised it was slightly wonky! I opened the back to find it stuck in with masking tape all the way around the print. Great! The tape is really strong and the print is basically f*cked
Will be going back tomorrow...

Though i guess alot of these guys are used to framing athena type stuff, and dont realise unless you tell them what you want and how you want it, but an image framed wonky using masking tape is clearly indefensible
Good luck

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by frontierman on Dec 9, 2009 12:06:56 GMT 1, A word of advice, when you go to a framer, ask them if their insurance cover the value of your work, if they cannot answer you or the mumble an answer, take it somewhere else. If they skimp on insurance, then they will skimp on materials and technique. Do not be afraid to ask questions, most reputable framers are only too happy to explain things, it shows they take a pride in their work and their reputation.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by shinybrite on May 2, 2010 22:42:24 GMT 1, That's outrageous technically; not sure where you stand legally, but they obviously don't know what they're doing, so although you still need to deal with them, don't let them have the picture back.
You need to take this to a paper restorer and they should be able to get that tape off no problem, it;s only just be done so it should all come off.
You then need to bill the framers, tell them that this is what;s going to happen - nicely - if they don;t play ball you will have to take them to the small claims court. the paper restorer should be your professional witness, so tell them to document the damage, and you should walk it- shame you've got to do that though.
Best - Jack

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by voodoo1967 on Jul 22, 2010 13:35:17 GMT 1, I use ECO tape, it's conservation standard, and also make sure your mounts are conservation and acid free - otherwise cheap mounts can 'yellow' over time, as a tip - I always double tape.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Deleted on Sept 6, 2010 9:23:38 GMT 1, Still looking for a company selling tape worldwide with LOW shipping fees. I found six today, but they are all charging 30 USD (or 20 GPB more or less) to ship my 15 USD product to Kenya, which is a lot !!!
So, I am looking for someone who could purchase it for me, place it in an envelope and send it to me via normal-slow mail. Would pay the same person via Paypal Invoice.
Product I want is "Lineco Abaca.sa Paper Hinging Tape (150')"
If you know any company selling this with low shpping fees or have any sales contact... or if you are ready to assist me... please PM.
Thx

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Deleted on Sept 16, 2010 20:06:00 GMT 1, Third call...
Damn ! Never though getting a roll of tape from abroad would be so difficult. "Lineco Abaca.sa Paper Hinging Tape (150')"
- GetSmartProduct - min. order of 50USD and no international shipping
- Dickblick.com - international payment by check or wire transfer (=high fees), no Paypal
- MMDistributors.com - min. order of 50USD and no international shipping
- ArchivalUSA - 31 USD shipping for a 12 USD roll
- None on ebay
- Found one here - Shipping in US only
- kolinskyartbrushes.com - 167 USD shipping. Had a chat with customer care, not possible to send it by normal airmail
- Found one in UE - no international shipping
- None in Google UK
OK ! I think I have tried them all... It seems I will never get the tape I need to frame my Murakami ! It's crazy !!
Anybody in US/UK willing to assist me on this ? You order it then just send it to me by normal air mail. On my side, willing to pay via Paypal or cash by air mail.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by sal on May 9, 2011 22:28:28 GMT 1, hey peeps.. I just wanted to ask you about your opinion on using Lineco's archival mounting strips (http://www.framedestination.com/Photo_Corners_and_Strips/4_Inch_Clear_Mounting_Strips_L533-4015/item/faphcn4mst0000000000/) for framing quality prints?!.. I also have mylar corners, but I dont think those would work on bigger size prints...
ANY suggestion, tip, idea is welcome!..
