Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by mayhem on May 9, 2011 22:54:40 GMT 1, hey peeps.. I just wanted to ask you about your opinion on using Lineco's archival mounting strips (http://www.framedestination.com/Photo_Corners_and_Strips/4_Inch_Clear_Mounting_Strips_L533-4015/item/faphcn4mst0000000000/) for framing quality prints?!.. I also have mylar corners, but I dont think those would work on bigger size prints... ANY suggestion, tip, idea is welcome!.. I use them for mounting archival fibre based photographs, easy to remove at a later date if needed.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by kultur on May 10, 2011 0:38:11 GMT 1, Lineco has good stuff.
Anything acid free really is fine... but for those that really do not want anything adhered to the print should use www.utrechtart.com/dsp_view_product.cfm?item=37828
With this product there is a greater chance of the image moving slightly as you have to add some space for the paper to expand and contract or you get the warbling.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by speebe on May 22, 2011 12:05:44 GMT 1, so, no ideas about where in London can I find this kind of tape!? Try: The guys at Framers Equipment
36 Charter Gate, Quarry Park Close, Moulton Park Industrial Estate, Northampton, NN3 6QB Tel: 01604 790333 Fax: 01604 790810 Mobile: 07980 660240 sales@framersequipment.co.uk
These guys stock lots of tapes, japanese hinges etc and have a Lineco tape...
This is what they say about their Lineco tape:
SEE-THRU MOUNTING STRIPS A framers favourite for hinge-less mounting of artworks. Lineco Mounting Strips are strong and safe and made from conservation quality Mylar polyester with a laminated slim strip of acid-free paper and on one side and set just in from the inner edge of the paper is a self adhesive backing strip to avoid glue migrating.
Application is easy - lay your artwork in position on an acid-free backing, place the strips around the artwork, and adhere the strips to the backing. No adhesive ever touches the artwork. Strips can be cut to the required size of each job. Available in 4" strips and now economical 12" strips, each package contains 60 strips.
www.framersequipment.co.uk/conservation.htm
I hope that helps...?

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by curiousgeorge on May 22, 2011 13:17:29 GMT 1, For heavier papers always hinge at the top with rice paper and starch, heavy papers and mylar corners alone are not enough IME
Just to be safe avoid anything that says 'TAPE'

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by iamzero on Jul 3, 2012 20:28:10 GMT 1, Hayaku pre gummed is the lowest I'd go on a print like that. Pressure sensitive tapes are used by a lot of framers believing they are ok because they are ph neutral. Avoid if possible fella. Personally I don't like the corners but that's just my taste.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by dotdot on Jul 3, 2012 20:34:49 GMT 1, your framer might think it's ok but does your restorer ?
if he/she does then go ahead.
framers deal in framing restorers deal in damage and the sources therein.
respect em both and you have a good start.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by artswipe on Jul 4, 2012 9:05:14 GMT 1, Surely acid free conservation tape is designed for this very purpose? Corners are ideal for a window mount but no good if you want to float mount, and I cant think how you would ever get the print off a board if you stuck it down with wheat paste.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by iamzero on Jul 4, 2012 10:41:32 GMT 1, Gotta love the karma system.
Distilled/ De Ironised just no minerals in it. The trick with the water based tapes is to get the tape wet enough to stick but not too wet that it puckers the paper. I've been using the hayaku tape on my stuff.
Hope that helps?

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by artswipe on Jul 4, 2012 11:00:19 GMT 1, Yeah I used to use it and remember, a damp sponge, but not too damp... then I discovered self adhesive but will go back to the old skool stuff. Presumably you are using DI to wet it as well as get it off?

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by kennyre317 on Oct 19, 2012 22:03:12 GMT 1, the best tape to use is no tape. use mylar corners, which can be found in 2 sizes. for larger prints what i tend to do is use a thick acid free art paper (what alot of our prints use) and cut out a strip and fold in half. i'll tape the folded strip of art paper to the bottom of the mat and to the backing board and the print will sit in the crease.
this is a great way to hold in your print without your print touching any type of adhesive and offer the print alot of extra support in addition to the mylar corners especially for the larger prints

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Ovaltine! on May 16, 2013 4:27:29 GMT 1, I work at a frame shop here in VA and when the artwork is expensive and we have to use tape to mount, its usually linen hinging tape. I believe its by Lineco? something like that. Or sometimes we use rice paper tape. Also it ends up most scotch tape is actually completely acid free.... Why they dont advertise that I have no idea. Kind of blew my mind when I first found that out.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Deleted on May 16, 2013 13:25:24 GMT 1, Linen tape is quite hard for conservators to remove so I'd go for a Japanese tape or p90 but apparently p90 is a little hard to remove as well. Put it this way.... Use p90 or Japanese tape as its thin and doesn't show up. BUT.... The thing is you shouldn't try to remove the tape when re selling. Just cut it off the backing but leave it on the print. Reason.... It is acid free and won't damage the print if left on and also won't devalue the print as its acid free and won't damage the print. People damage prints by trying to tear off the tape. There is a reason it damages and removes part of the paper it's attached to... Is not made to be removed.
If it needs to be removed it got to go to a conservator to be removed by chemicals..... That's why they get the big bucks.
Anyhow...hope this helps.
