Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by jellya on Nov 14, 2009 17:34:42 GMT 1, I have a signed WSM that is inscribed with a heart and turf war written after it. Not dedicated to anyone personally and that has a full COA from Pest Control. These items are postcard size, Charlie (Pure Evil) has one in his shop dedicated to him. So not a wall filler then!
Wow, I had no idea they were so small!! Still a nice item to have but at that size I'd be v v surprised if it goes as high as has been mentioned.
Anyone remember Mammal's ruse which had some people travelling up to grab one of these from a back shop near Waterloo? ;D

Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by BK83 on Nov 14, 2009 17:47:29 GMT 1, generally, items that are signed and dedicated go for considerably less than items that are just signed. Collectors prefer anonymity. And it is understandable -- who wants an item that is signed "Dear Steve, Thanks for your support blah blah blah" if your names not steve??? It's weird! Banksy signed these pieces with dedication written on the artwork for precisely this reason. If he intended otherwise he would have written a seperate accompanying "thank you" note. Think about it.

Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by Simococo on Nov 14, 2009 18:58:11 GMT 1, as far as I am aware it's not a silkscreen. Thing is if you're a completionist and want a true complete collection of Banksy prints, you need to own this one. PC not authenticating it is a joke, and I think they will have to back track on this, gift or no gift, it's signed by the artist and is a work by him, you cannot pick and choose what you want to authenticate because of ethics and morals.
the reason pest control was set up was so banksy could pick and choose what he wanted to authenticate because of ethics and morals

The Warhol foundation are in seriously hot water at the moment for trying to manipulate the market for far less reliably authentic works.

Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by Wearology on Nov 14, 2009 23:41:29 GMT 1, There is only 1 person in the world that can authenticate a Keith Haring piece beyond a reasonable doubt and the Haring Foundation has purposely isolated him because they are afraid of the truth. He collaborated with Keith for a decade and knows what is legit and what is a good or bad fake. A lot of these foundations are more interested in authenticating a piece of art than to deem is not authentic. Once art and money share the same sand box corruption will mostly creep its ugly head.

I'd like to think that Banksy can do what he likes, and i am sure he does.
couldnt really see a guy that has been gifted one of these taking him to court over it.
I suppose PC could just shut up shop and say a big f**k you to everyone trying it on if it did come to court.
Might be wrong though ;D

Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by lee3 on Nov 15, 2009 17:17:04 GMT 1, >>>this is a new phenomenon to the art market tho isn't it <<<
Artists have given works and or traded works with other artists for ages. 5 or 6 years ago I got a tour of a well known pop artist's house which had work from Warhol, Lichtenstein, Thiebaud, Wesselmann and hosts of others most of which he traded work of his own with the respective artists and others were gifts and or payments for other things. I asked a lot of questions about those works and learned that some couldn't be resold while others didn't care what anyone did. I have to presume that those that don't want it resold look at the gift or exchange as something far beyond a commodity and could well envision the same from the Cans event. That show was anything but about money.
>>>if I give someone a gift it doesn't come with conditions. If you give something to somebody they can do what they want with it.<<<
A fair point; however, I can well appreciate that if one gives a gift that they certainly aren't asking for more responsibility as the giver in the future. Artists at this level have to be careful when it come to authentication and many take steps that are unseen to the naked eye to prevent forgeries. Perhaps these were done as a genuine thanks but the artist didn't take whatever steps are customary in their circle to make the detection of fakes from authentic in any reasonable manner. There are countless scenarios one could envision as to why someone doesn't want these sold, not the least of which to me is that it goes against the spirit of the original event itself.

Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by Agent Provocateur on Nov 15, 2009 20:01:52 GMT 1, Very interesting Lee... in my posts I was just interested in this phenomenon of artists gifts and the resale issues. Your information on other well established artists having a range of views on gifts, free to do with as you like and also not for resale, does show my ignorance but definitely helps me understand that this is pretty normal.

Would you seriously do that?
So banksy signs a postcard and gives it to someone that helped him out, this guy then tries to sell it in an auction, banksys agents wont authenticate it, possibly due to the fact it isnt an edition or an original but a little keepsake that in truth could probably be copied in the millions as there is no control over it.
Would banksy be expected to know or keep a copy of everyone he has signed and given these little thank you gifts to ?
I think if one of these were authenicated thousands would suddenly enter the market, of which only a few would be genuine, and then authenicating them would be fun
Just my novice thoughts on this

Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by ricardob on Nov 20, 2009 23:34:21 GMT 1, How about Diface notes? Street pieces? Yeah, let's authenticate everything. Come on folks, the artist have the choice to do whatever is right for him. He doesn't need to keep track of every single piece of paper he signs. If Banksy sign a cheque, would you sell it as art? I am happy most of us do not know his id.

Banksy • Rodeo Girl • GIFT Print, by grantb on Dec 29, 2009 16:20:29 GMT 1, ok I managed to get hold of one of these but due to circumstances I have to sell it.
Im in no immediate rush to sell so no silly offers.
here is a photo. the print is dedicated to someone but i have photoshopped the name out.
as you know pow wont issue coa (as these were originally gifts) for it but i havnt tried. we know its by banksy and i have the covering letter from the original owner.
I want mainly cash but I will accept part trade.
Ideally I want cash and another banksy to replace it. I have always wanted a Very Little Helps. I am only interested in signed banksys and maybe a nick walker empire state.
You will most likely never be able to get hold of one of these.
and if I manage to sort out a few things soon enough I will be keeping this, as this is the last thing I want to do.
Take care.

Just to let people know its quite alot bigger then postcard size that someone mentioned in the other thread.
It honestly took me ages to even consider about selling this but im in a difficult situation as my euro millions ticket didnt come through.

no chance of a cert, have spoken with PC and POW about these and been told they will never get COA's.
Seems weird in my eyes, they are after all genuine and so should be given coa's from somewhere of other. Maybe Vermin?? haha.
Grant nice bed sheets, argos? mine are the same. May i ask what the green oddly latex looking thing is in there??? blow up martian lady by chance???
