Bast Opening Night, by guest2 on Jan 25, 2008 1:05:12 GMT 1, Wasn't Bast's best by a long shot, but the Supine work was worth the journey.
The best stuff from bast was the paste ups on the wall and they wasn't for sale! But it was great too see sooo many faces there and although it seems bast was a little 'harcore' and disappointing to most, the show was great fun with a really good atmosphere and I really really thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I'm off to bed already, light weight. Night all.
PS Havana, call you tomorrow dude. Cream crackered.

So who's battling next month.... David Choe vs Beejoir/MauMau.

Bast Opening Night, by streetgirl on Jan 25, 2008 9:08:38 GMT 1, Good Moaning!
Have to agree, very far away from being the most interesting or innovative show I've been to.
Quote of the night must've been: 'Don't get out of the way, it's hardly fucking Picasso....you wouldnt buy one of these would you, bit like Emperors Clothes, you'd get it home and think, WTF did I spend all that money on this for?'
Made me and the gf laugh...
On the whole they could do with a bit less peni s Love the Paris though.
Oh and G, me and the gf have been saying that for YEARS.
Good to see you Frankie, and Gary - Big up to Dale when he awakes from his hibernating slumber, guys a legend...maybe moreso than Gary. Excellent framework again guys!

I also liked the blown up ad prints downstairs, something about them reminded me of Warhol and the Soup can, thought it was a nice spin.

Bast Opening Night, by jynormous on Jan 25, 2008 10:21:23 GMT 1, Morning everyone!
Just thought i would share my thoughts about the show last night with you all.... ;D
I hadn't seen any of Bast's originals close up before and knowing how much effort he puts into his prints, making sure they all have final touches added by him, i was expecting to be blown away by his canvas work. Maybe that was the problem, i was expecting too much?
The BAST work seamed OK, but didn't jump off the wall at me like i was imagining. The theme he selected was fine but the way he portrayed it was tacky. The girls he painted were not an avenue i was expecting him to go down, and for me, they were the weakest past of the show. Smurfs with big d!cks, OK, but you would never hang them on your wall (although they are sold so i guess I'm wrong there.)
The screen print he was offering was (correct me if I'm wrong) ยฃ750 for a run of 25. Does anyone else think thats a little high for a two color screen print? That for me set the tone of the show!
The one positive at the show (apart from the Paroni) was the Judith work. It was hidden at the back in a room of its own and for me, stole the show. The walls were fantastic and really complemented the works for sale. They seamed to be at fairly reasonable prices although I'm not sure how they would look on a wall in your house if they didn't have a spotlight on them, i think they would lose some of their "pop".
All in all it was an OK show, it was run well and its in a great venue, but for me i think BAST left his best at home.
I rate it 6/10

No not at all. Both not city bods, both not gansters but yes they do make a living putting on great shows that are all enjoyed by all of here.

I'd say thats pretty accurate although Supine wasn't hidden, just in the 'project' room But I'd say you'd have to split the marks out of 10. Although I end up with 6 out of 10 to over all is was Supine 10/10 and Bast 2/10 for me
Supine has a solo coming soon and I hear the whole gallery could be looking like the project room. Looking forward to seeing that.

Wasn't so keen on the rest of the BAST stuff.
The Judith Supine pieces were really nice though.
Nice to meet so many forum members last night, the usual suspects and a load of new faces.
Oh, I've got a pretty tasty hangover.....Bacon sandwich!!!!!!!!!!

Bast Opening Night, by motor on Jan 25, 2008 10:54:43 GMT 1, I agree with most comments here. Supine display was fantastic. His pieces were great and those black and white walls were even better! Really raised his bar again. Looking forward to his solo show with NIA gallery in April. I was a bit disappointed with Bast. He can do better...much better. Still good though.
One more thing. Anyone any idea how the Lazaridies artist ended up doing show with TLSG

Bast Opening Night, by jones27 on Jan 25, 2008 10:55:34 GMT 1, I actually took a bird there on a first date. Admittedly it was rather self indulgent of me, the chanel pieces sparked a good conversation about dildos tho.
My favourite piece was the paris hilton, think it sold for ยฃ3k. Was hoping for more stuff on show down stairs at the bar but there wasnt much.
BTW - I dont suppose anyone has a pistol woman by bast for sale ?
