Bast Opening Night, by sham69 on Jan 25, 2008 11:15:06 GMT 1, Morning to all the usual suspects. Nice to put a few faces to names last night. Finally made it home 2 am. to the frozen wastelands of the north. Have to say I was fairly happy with the show. Smurfs were disappointing and things were a bit sparse but agree the Paris Hilton's were something else. Thought the bigger nude pieces were interesting too. Chanel works were an over indulgence. Supine has moved up a gear too, good to see him getting some long overdue credit. The canvas varnishing really works as does the less is more approach. Apologies if I offended anyone last night, according to the missus I've still got camel breath this morning. Blame the Wetherspoons curry me and Stuey had prior to tackling the Peroni. Looking forward to the Black Rat show.

Bast Opening Night, by skanky on Jan 25, 2008 11:18:04 GMT 1, I was really disapointed by the show , the only good things IMO were the Paris ones but even they were not that special. I was really hoping for great things from this show, not a Mickey in site. Supine is not for me but I can appreciate the quality in the work . Good to see a few bods over a beer though.

Also, supine's stuff really reminds me of terry gilliam's monty python animations...

I think the whole show was framed by Gary, MrFrameman - so he can answer the frame question.
funnily enough I made the same Monty Python comment last night with regards to Supine's work.

Bast Opening Night, by jynormous on Jan 25, 2008 13:36:54 GMT 1, Morning everyone! Just thought i would share my thoughts about the show last night with you all.... ;D I hadn't seen any of Bast's originals close up before and knowing how much effort he puts into his prints, making sure they all have final touches added by him, i was expecting to be blown away by his canvas work. Maybe that was the problem, i was expecting too much? The BAST work seamed OK, but didn't jump off the wall at me like i was imagining. The theme he selected was fine but the way he portrayed it was tacky. The girls he painted were not an avenue i was expecting him to go down, and for me, they were the weakest past of the show. Smurfs with big d!cks, OK, but you would never hang them on your wall (although they are sold so i guess I'm wrong there.) The screen print he was offering was (correct me if I'm wrong) ยฃ750 for a run of 25. Does anyone else think thats a little high for a two color screen print? That for me set the tone of the show! The one positive at the show (apart from the Paroni) was the Judith work. It was hidden at the back in a room of its own and for me, stole the show. The walls were fantastic and really complemented the works for sale. They seamed to be at fairly reasonable prices although I'm not sure how they would look on a wall in your house if they didn't have a spotlight on them, i think they would lose some of their "pop". All in all it was an OK show, it was run well and its in a great venue, but for me i think BAST left his best at home. I rate it 6/10 I'd say thats pretty accurate although Supine wasn't hidden, just in the 'project' room But I'd say you'd have to split the marks out of 10. Although I end up with 6 out of 10 to over all is was Supine 10/10 and Bast 2/10 for me Supine has a solo coming soon and I hear the whole gallery could be looking like the project room. Looking forward to seeing that.
I think Supine can and will do better at his own show. If we are marking both part on their own, i would say: BAST - 5/10 Supine - 8/10
And for me, as i said before, the show overall was 6/10.

Yeah i did. I cant afford a canvas at all, but if i was going to buy one, it wouldnt be a small one, i would save a bit longer and get something that i could actually see from accross the room.

No, he often does that size. And I'm sure they are not everyones cup of tea but to say they are utter shite is abit much although I appreciate you don't like them. Supine was one of the 1st to sell out at the found show, he sold out last night also and he had a few in Urban Sprawl which sold out straight away. I think he sold out at the 11 show also. He has a good fan base and Brendan has a great attitude also which goes along way.

Dont get me wrong, I thought the larger ones were great, just felt the smaller ones were rubbish and clearly not up to the standard of the larger pieces. Felt like they were made to sell to me
