Walker Prices Diving, by Heavyconsumer on May 9, 2008 0:19:39 GMT 1, I've found the dullest thing about the forum is people who write in threads they find boring! There are threads about art on a daily basis, it's easy enough to only contribute to those, rather than wrecking discussions of others who are happy to have them, whether it be money, flipping, the weather, whatever.

Walker Prices Diving, by hitme on May 9, 2008 0:28:46 GMT 1, i don't understand why people watch the Bonham's auction results that closely and use it as some determining factor for how the value of prints or other work will hold. let's be honest...the pieces at the last Bonham's and also for this current one are nowhere near Nick Walker's best work....the one canvas study up there now might do really because it is more recent. same for Banksy....seeing some of those Andipa Gallery pieces on Bonham's would be interesting to watch...not a signed color trolleys that can be had on eBay any time.....sure the Bonham's results is interesting to view because it gets their names out more into the art world other than just this urban scene...but it is useless for determining where prices will fall when they are not their best pieces..just my 2 cents.

Walker Prices Diving, by alsbabar on May 9, 2008 0:33:20 GMT 1, well i will only speak for myself, but i really dont buy prints anymore, I am looking for canvases or different media, there are so many prints out there, and alot of them do nothing for me, but art on canvas or different media, now you are talking, for example, i bought a C215 canvas for £400 the other day - bargain in my opinion, that beats buying a £400 print by Dface. If I do buy prints however, they have to be of a very low edition of say no more than 35, or an AP.

Walker Prices Diving, by felix on May 9, 2008 0:39:13 GMT 1, Prints will always sell as they are alot more accessible to the bulk of people interested in street art, ie 15-24 year olds. I would love to buy originals all the time, but affording a Banksy or Dface original is out of the question at the moment.

I concur with that, if you can't get it from source, there is no reason to pay inflated prices, save it for something else you like.

Unfortunately mate thats how it works. Its the same within any sector you can think of eg. Stocks & shares are generally determined by the economy which is generally controlled by the banks. Its a hierachy system the man at the top says what happens at the bottom. so if one man will pay x amount for a picture and that amount is more than the artists previous picture then people see that price increase as spreading to their other work. Tell me if that made any sense what so ever.

Walker Prices Diving, by Prescription Art on May 9, 2008 2:07:26 GMT 1, I don't think the Bonhams sale being a flop is as much of a dream as people are thinking - it's a distinct possibility. I certainly think the days of all signed Banksies selling for silly money at auction houses are gone. Things seem to be slowing down generally in all business sectors and there's still no concrete evidence that this market will be a haven for investors. They are not going to be looking for £500 - £5000 print deals to tie up substantial sums of money, they'll be looking to the higher end of the market if anywhere, so I think it's very much a question of wait and see. Most print owners/collectors will be hit in some way or another. If too many collectors feel their prints are a luxury then the bottom could easily drop out of this market soon, with not too much depth there to prop it up short term imo. I'm not suggesting people should care one way or the other though. It all depends on you means and your motives. Genuine collectors should see the market crashing as an opportunity, so it might not be such a bad thing, as Snakes implied.
I think if you're investing in art you should be looking at the long-term - both to enjoy the work and support the artist - rather than reading too much into each daily fluctuation on ebay. Banksy has secured a spot in art history, and a place in the hearts of an entire nation. I think it's very likely that signed Banksys will always sell for silly money at auction. I haven't noticed Warhol's screenprints going cheap lately....
Supply & Demand, innit.

If you love what you have bought, and you were happy with the price you paid for it then in monetary terms, that is it's value to the individual. If you were stupid enough to pay inflated prices from flippers then that's your own fault. End of day are you buying for the right reasons? If you are buying purely for investment then I shouldn't even waste my time talking to you, this forum was set up for lovers of street art, not as an investment advice centre! Nuff said!

Nuff said!
