Walker Prices Diving, by hitme on May 8, 2008 20:24:06 GMT 1, just noticing that some of the Walkers are taking a dive in eBay sales...notably V for Vandal and TMA Hollywood, and Airlines...others like TMA London are staying up there.
any reasoning for this? there has sure been a lot of negative talk about Nick on these boards recently, but i'd like to credit the sales to something more powerful than this board? or am i mistaken?
is this a buyer's market? will prices rise back up? any thoughts? he just had 2 sell-out shows and his print releases are small...so i don't see this being a Micallef-type thing...or should I?
just curious what everyone thinks today.

Walker Prices Diving, by James Smith 77 on May 8, 2008 20:31:17 GMT 1, It's happeneing all over the place. Many Banksy auctions ended lower than expected. Things are cyclical...hopefully this is exemplifying this?
Trolleys on End paper (Ed. of 25) ended at around $12k S&S ended around $5100

Walker Prices Diving, by clipit101 on May 8, 2008 20:42:27 GMT 1, It will rise again i would have thought. Recently it has been a buyers market as there has been so much up for grabs. Also given the current global financial market investors of stocks and shares and bailing out and instead buying art, antiques and collectibles. Therefore alot of the buyers recently will be buying to keep for a while, given the more they buy the more controll they have over prices. They do the same thing with gold and diamonds, restrict the amount on the market so prices go up and then sell to make profits. I belive at the moment were seeing the market being flooded hence falling prices. On the other hand im talking out of my arse and people are just loosing interesst lol. Hopefully its the latter then i can afford some of the stuff i really want!

Walker Prices Diving, by yapsey on May 8, 2008 20:43:27 GMT 1, with the airways and vandal prints, you'll still be getting the end of the people that flipped them - the prices always tale off toward the end (remember when stop and search dropped to 1500 late december???) with regard to Hollywood - imo it's the weakest print out of his recent series and subsequently not in as much demand.
they'll come up again...

Walker Prices Diving, by sahoria on May 8, 2008 20:50:33 GMT 1, nw work will no doubt go up again after may 13th... day of bonhams... dface prices think are fairly stable...wont see too much of a drop or them rise to high till bonhams in oct and his solo show... if bonhams before then the queue will be alot more longer than nw queue at brp i would imagine...
clipit101 sounds about right when talking about companies buying up diamonds/copper etc to control the market... strange thing is the same is now going on with rice...but there are some amazing artists about and enjoying seeing new work from artists here on the boards and elsewhere... i wouldnt be too concerned with the dip they will bounce back up some time...s

Walker Prices Diving, by kahuna on May 8, 2008 20:53:15 GMT 1, Over-supply of Walker prints is driving down the Walker prints to the point where true collectors will start buying.
All the V for Vandal and Vandal Airways auctions just show that an online release is not the best way to sell prints of popular artists if you want them to go to colectors and not flippers.

Its horrific what investors will buy, all so goverments have to buy it back at a hugely inflated price which of course not forgetting by that point hundreds even thousands have starved to death and its always the 3rd world

I agree, but also feel that VFV and VA are very weak images compared to TMA series. Hollywood was my least favourite of the TMAs and I guess there are plenty out there who agree, either that or less NW collectors in LA than in Bristol or London! So long as half his prints are bought by flippers, it will be very difficult to know what their true value is until the market for each image has stabilised. It's not the time to be discussing price trends for Nick's work yet, as he only became popular/fashionable a few months ago (post-Bonhams). Wait another 12/18 months or so and then take a look at the price trends, although I fear that they may be influenced strongly by outside economic influences!

I'm sorry, I think that's a silly statement, how is it any different from flippers queing up all night for LTS to sell them on ebay the next day?

The only positives of a Q is you have a real chance of getting one - if you can get to the venue and take time off work.
On the flip side - Q's allow you to see how many prints are being sold to the general public - on line does not have that visability.
Q for me - every time.
If I want it bad - I know I can get it (area and days off permitting)

Walker Prices Diving, by mrmustard on May 8, 2008 21:05:06 GMT 1, OK, take the urban scene out of the equasion...art markets generally peak and trough on a daily/weekly basis. It's like stocks and share sadly. It's just that many of you are new to the art scene (I dont mean urban as you all seem to know your stuff) . My advise, buy now when its going down if you like the piece. It will go up again. I have been involved in fine art for MANY years and urban is just the current trend, like the Britpack was in the 90's.

Just take a look @ S&S - there were plenty under $3K usd at one point...

i agree 18 months very least before anyone really knows anything... im just happy to have art pieces which i really love...
clipit101... it is crazy what is going on but afraid food prices are rising as we speak...effecting lower income families here aswell so alot of people next 1 or 2 will really start noticing difference...
this market is like any other... no one really knows... when things seem to be going well everyone will jump on board and when there is down turn then ones who are not collectors will jump ship... always the way...s

an online release gives collectors a chance worldwide, not just cockneys

"Silly statement" is your opinion and I did not say that an overnight line is the most suitable alternative.
How about considering opening an order list for fortncoming releases where only owners of previous works qualify for registration by showing that the previous purchase is still in their ownership?
A system such as this would allow true fans of the work to collect an entire series without resorting to paying inflated prices to someone without a life who can F5 all day long.

Surely all that does is completely restrict who can own a print they like as well as give no oportunities to new collectors. Surely that defeats the message these urban artists are putting across. "Liberty and justice for none"!
