Just cos Ocean Finance will lend you the money doesn't mean you can afford it CG, quite the reverse!!! (probably etc..)
Wild assumption that 'everyone who has a job'.....crass comment that deserves to get shot down in flames.
I can't really afford it but will just have too cut back on the Laurent Perrier Rose for a week or so

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by boatboy on Nov 25, 2009 23:28:25 GMT 1, For 800 quid I'd want them to frame it for me, drive up to scotland, paint my living room and then hang it for me, oh and also to bring me a mcdonalds as well.It is just a bit of paper and a copy that 99 other people have as well.Seems pricey that.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by Cardiff on Nov 26, 2009 2:17:41 GMT 1, I want to pick up either St Giles or 184th St to go on a wall adjacent to my Choe Death Blossom. I live in the US and won't be able to check these out in person. Any idea how I can get on the list to reserve one of these (I've sent a message to Elms via their website)?
Also, I would appreciate any feedback about which one might better compliment the Choe piece. Right now I'm leaning towards 184th St.
Thanks

from their site "Some prints will be reserved for International collectors." not sure what you have to do, maybe it's a lotto I'm sure all will be reviled soon

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by Cardiff on Nov 26, 2009 6:34:21 GMT 1, Thanks for the info Topboy...I'll try my best not to tip over!
I'm hoping I have the opportunity to agonize over which of these to buy. I hate not being able to see these in person, but they all look pretty impressive!
Does anyone know how many Elms holds back for people that can't make it there in person?
Thanks

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by digitalkid on Nov 26, 2009 9:55:50 GMT 1, can afford it. Come on! anyone with a job can afford £800, worse case scenario bang it on your credit card and slowly pay it back. If you want this print to be cheap it's probably to make future profit. your just trying to wind people up right? £800 for a piece of paper.
What are Banksy prints printed on then!?
It's not just a piece of paper though is it! it's by a world renowned artist complete with his signature. Ok slightly flippant comment I made, but if you think this is to much to pay you are probably collecting in the wrong market. There are plenty of things I want that are priced out of my wallet but I don't go around saying that's to much rah rah rah. Before you say yes I could use my credit card

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by Deleted on Nov 26, 2009 10:20:37 GMT 1, i don't think its too much to pay for a print. however i think your comment that everyone with a job can afford one is quite frankly bulls**t. when i started collecting art i was amazed that someone would pay £100 for a print and with children had to seriously think about if could justify spending that kind of cash on a piece of paper.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by digitalkid on Nov 26, 2009 11:05:27 GMT 1, If someone really wanted this print or anything for £800 and they have a job with money coming into the house then yes they could. Yes some sacrifices may have to be made and it may take years to save up but it could be done. I can't afford everything so I save up for items I really want. I guess it comes down to how good you are managing your own money.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by topper007 on Nov 26, 2009 15:33:53 GMT 1, Well as keysersoze said earlier in the thread, "if you don't think they enjoy/benefit from the hype of doing so - then you should think about it harder" - couldn't have put it better. and quite frankly I find that a vacuous point, yes obviously it creates hype that's it's a low price point, but so what? At the end of the day it's availabe to a larger number of people, if those ppl choose to sell it on and by doing so get black listed what's the problem? The point is street art is not an elitist club pandering to the wallets of the middle and upper classes it's for all - the argument that a low price point keeps interest high whilst a high price point makes sure only the real fan purchases is not seeing all the facts at all Yes no question it's for all when street art is exactly that - art on the street. But when art in that style - call it street art/urban art - moves into galleries in the form of pieces for people to collect and own which only their family and friends will see, then it's quite blatantly not for all. Why do limited edition print runs even exist if the art is for all? Or try this - why are Banksy prints no longer £50 and in runs of 600 (which would certainly satisfy a laudable aim of accessibility on both counts) since even the current £350/£400 is (hopefully!) considered a reasonably chunky outlay however fat your wallet. I also think that there are plenty people out there who love to see art on street walls and will happily chat about it but at the same time would ordinarily think other people are crackers to pay hundreds of pounds for a paper replica of the same image. But that's where the hype machine kicks in - call me cynical but a lot of people who could otherwise take or leave this type of art find stories of easy profit very hard to resist. At least we manage to agree that there is no problem in releasing these Parla's at market value (assuming of course they remain at that value after the initial release). And I also think your point about differences in markets for Banksy and Parla is a good one. If you wandered out into the street and took a straw poll, most people wouldn't have even heard of Jose Parla. But I'm pretty sure name recognition of Banksy would be a different proposition - and I think that's because the level of interest in him (helped along by partly by famous street pieces which reach a bigger audience, partly by anonymity but also partly by hype) goes well beyond the relatively small urban/street art world. But don't stop now nex - I'm enjoying this ;D

Bit harsh but tend to agree.....do you have any idea what avearge wage is? If you've got that and a mortgage and a bit of income support and two kids then you're probably counting the pennies, if you've got minimum wage and the above then you're struggling BIG time, robbing Peter to pay Paul and it must be fucking tough. If you live in London on average wage (£46K) and have a (possibly) bigger mortgage than average, with cost of livingg being that much higher then you probably still aren't rolling in it. If you're single, live at home on £30K a year with Mum doing your ironing you might never be so liquid again, so enjoy it. These sacrifices you speak of to get a Parla print on the wall, that would be a family holiday, or new stuff for your kids?
