Micallef LA Show..., by niceguy on Aug 15, 2007 9:01:53 GMT 1, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I was also told by Laz it would be approx. 2000 quid....... Its definitely too high but they are pricing them at approx. market value just like they did with BG, MW, and WCIP. very true. actually maybe this will be a good thing in that the flippers won't be as hasty in getting these prints and they'll actually go to discerning collectors. which means that not everyone will get all 4. maybe just 1 or 2? regardless, I'm determined to get one print for my own
Hmm interesting... surely pricing these prints at such an extortinate rate is going to have the opposite effect... seems to me that the only people making money on prints are people that are selling them on via the secondary market... i.e. flippers and (erhumm) 'online galleries' (doesn't a new one open almost every day now). It seems reasonable to deduce then that they are the only people that will have that sort of money to invest. Now if you're a fan of the work then surely you buy it to keep it, it has no monetary value (unless you sell it). How many pieces can the averagre guy afford to keep buying and keeping? When they end up on the secondary market then they will be out of reach for many. I think this pricing strategy means that more flippers/galleries get them and fewer fans.

Micallef LA Show..., by bobbymeachamjr on Aug 15, 2007 13:20:31 GMT 1, as with all things there has to be an equilibrium - the "buyers" supporting the current prices on prints will soon be drying up. Flippers/online dealers and all the way up to Laz will soon realize that this dream like scenario for them was a nice ride.

What does laz care about the secondary market for if he can sell at 2k a print and sell out, i guess he`ll be a happy man i think the sub 1k print for an established artist days are now long gone

Micallef LA Show..., by jB on Aug 15, 2007 16:28:20 GMT 1, The thing that kills me, as well as I am sure a few others is the fact that the price is so high! Especially for us commoners. How many people can really afford to buy one print at 4000 usd, or all four at 16,000 usd a set. Hell, that's a down payment on a townhome/ condo. Niceguy made a good point about how the only ones (for the most part) that can really afford these prints are the ones who are flipping them, not for the one who will hang it and enjoy for years to come. It's just too bad, especially for us who are fairly new to this all, first Banksy, then Micallef, then Beejoir, then Neate...What happens when the bubble breaks? Can everyone afford having these, or is everyone going to feel sorry for themselves like when the tech bubble busted, or when the interest rates went up in the real estate market? As much as I love Micallef, I just can't afford it hanging on the wall. boo who for me right!
just self loathing wishing I was a whole lot wealthier

This is a Banksy forum and some people might not like Faile, You get people on here knocking Hutch coz they dont like his work, so it makes sense to have forums for different artists with different styles.
I expect I could find a post on this forum where you might have said you didn't like and artists work, but if that thread had been started on a forum just for that artist it would not have bother you ;D

Micallef LA Show..., by dgb133 on Aug 15, 2007 20:24:52 GMT 1, Wow, $4000 USD --- for an edition of 400!!!
Well at least it makes the decision easy. I'll skip the day trip to ay and save myself about $4500 all together. I'll pass.
I understand Laz's interest in why should flippers make money off of the work he puts out but Damn! Maybe if these prints are laong the Caliber of 21CL. But they better not be Judgement Day or Angel Bomber caliber for that price. I got better things to do with my money anyway.
With missing out on Faile and now Micallef, I can't believe all the oney I'm saving!

We know we don't al like the same things, big deal - that's called life. It doesn't mean we should all sit in small groups with people who only like the same things as us, that is dull. Which is probably why many of the other forums are dull.

Micallef LA Show..., by verbalkint on Aug 15, 2007 20:41:38 GMT 1, the editions of 50 were above market value at the time they were released (infact they were absurdly over market value), but charging £2000 a print for run of 400 really is taking the piss. Steve is a businessman, i understand that, and he will argue that if people buy them then he has set the price right, but this is just one of many reasons why i hate the bloke with an intensity that is usually reserved for smackheads who mug old ladies.
I thought the whole idea of prints were to make art affordable to the masses, fair enough, steve has a stake in POW and there prices have been reasonable in the past but is this something we should expect from them for future releases too?
Also, its all very well and good slagging steve off (which is fun) but Antony micallef will be well aware of the prices that will be charged, he knows the show will be a sell out before preview night and he knows the prints will sell. I bet my last rolo that micallef and laz have already had the 'so thats £1.6 million for me, and £1.6 million for you' conversation and thats just for the prints. Good work if you can get it

If I can make it on Banksy.info, I can make it anywhere. The majority of forum members show great support of new artists and aren't afraid to tell you when it stinks. Thanks again!

Ah, I give up. I'll get back in my hole.

Which, incidentally, is fucking outstanding....

Micallef LA Show..., by Michael Jacob on Aug 15, 2007 21:28:13 GMT 1, Laz is probably trying to make all the money they can with Micaleff. They obviously have their hands tied behind their back with Banksy and POW. Its only speculation, but Im guessing we will no longer see Banksy sold on POW once the LA series is done. I think that is why they are taking so long to release them (as long as they have Banksy, tons of people will check their site everyday, and often times buy stuff they might not have otherwise). If they are doing it for the right reasons, I applaud POW for keeping the price down. Im just not sure if they are doing it though, or is it at the request of Banksy? Im guessing a much larger gallery has him lined up once the LA prints are done. If I can speculate just one more time, Ill bet all the LA prints have to be done by December 31st! REMEMBER, THIS IS ALL SPECULATION!!!!!
