Faile โข Macbeth Print, by ptron on Feb 14, 2007 16:36:58 GMT 1, So, can someone expalin carpet bagger, I understand the meaning but not why that is a term attached?
wikipedia my friend:
In United States history, carpetbaggers were Northerners who moved to the [{Southern United States|South]] during Reconstruction between 1865 and 1877. They formed a coalition with Freedmen (freed slaves), and Scalawags (Southern whites) in the Republican Party, which in turn controlled ex-Confederate states for varying periods between 1867 and 1877.
"Carpetbaggers" was coined from the carpet bags used as inexpensive luggage. It was originally a derogatory term, suggesting an exploiter who does not plan to stay. The term is now standard and is used without derogatory intent by historians and reference works. Since 1900 the term has also been used to describe outsiders attempting to gain political office or economic advantage, especially in areas (thematically or geographically) to which they previously had no connection.

Faile โข Macbeth Print, by alvington89 on Feb 14, 2007 17:17:26 GMT 1, Never really thought much of the Faile Macbeth image. There was much much better work by Faile available at SG. The reason for the quickly growing popularity of Faile is undoubtedly down to the news of the upcoming LAZ show and the inevitable rise in prices that are attracting all the carpet baggers.

I didnt see any Faile I liked at SG, maybe i didnt look hard enough. Some of the stuff on their own shop was quite cool but sold out too quick. All that was left was Charles and who wants to drop ยฃ150 for his mug? It will be on our money soon enough anyway

Faile โข Macbeth Print, by corblimeylimey on Feb 15, 2007 15:10:38 GMT 1, POW really should get their act together on this, how difficult can it be? It seem very unfair to people who think they've missed out so go to ebay and pay over the odds just to later be told it's not sold out after all.

We are both talking about the same POW right? No offense intended, but it'll be a while before they get their shit together.

Perhaps this is POW's new business model! Drip feed artwork every few days ;D I reckon the refresh crew will move from POW to this forum. Managed to bag one of the three faile's tho so this time it's worked in my favour.

Maybe it is people ordering 2 or more of the same print, by the time POW have seen that even though 2 different cards have been used, they are going to the same address / billing address they stop the second shipment and hey presto, a print is back in the loop for someone else to purchase. Better POW are doing this rather than selling 20 identical prints to a single buyer. IMO

I'd love to believe that POW are that well organised - unfortunately I just don't think they are.

Faile โข Macbeth Print, by Tyler Durden on Feb 19, 2007 13:26:48 GMT 1, Plus you get people / loved ones buying it from the same household, only to end up with none. From what I read, it seems that if someone adds one to the basket then doesn't pay for it, it's up to POW to manually check these and release 'em back into the pool. As and when they do this, more become available. I agree that it's not ideal, but what else can they do? They oversold before this update. At least if they're underselling there's a chance for us all to get the prints we want before we start feeling flush on t'ebay, or am I wrong?
