Got to say it was a million times better than the pdf led me (and some others) to believe, and I'm kinda wishing now I'd bought one of the series in the perspex cases on the flyposters, although I'm kinda holding out for the Faile show!
Also if you haven't yet do head to Pure Evil in the next week or so to check out some great pieces from PMP (Brooklyn).

DFace aPOPcalypse Now Show, by atomone on Oct 3, 2008 3:18:46 GMT 1, Wicked show! after the online release this morning I wasn't sure what to expect but have to say I was blown away! fantastic show, got to chat with D and even got a signed American Depress card too so well chuffed! If you haven't been to the show just take the time to do so and you won't be disappoined! Nice one D, and thanks edcase for the pics (which I noticed I am in one of them)

DFace aPOPcalypse Now Show, by Agent Provocateur on Oct 3, 2008 9:03:41 GMT 1, Fantastic show... the entrance and installation rooms consumed you, rather than just standing around looking intelligently at framed 'pieces' you got the feeling you were actually inside (taking part) in his work. Hopefully that was the point , as the artist he is commenting on mass consumerism (correct me if I'm wrong), and as the viewer we are who he's commenting on and why when we walked through the rooms we were actually integral to the work... ahhh sorry about that, got a bout of intellectual b******t The chapel was intense tho!
When you emerged into the gallery space the domed brick roof stretched out in front of you, the framed work lit perfectly, glowing on the walls drawing you eye again and again to another image. I'm going to go against the grain here and say I'm not a big fan of D's earlier work (but will hold my hands up and say I own a 'SI1' which wasn't my greatest moment) but the craftsmanship, iconography and power of this work was fantastic. By far my favorite pieces were the ones on the layers of old billboard posters... looked like he'd done the work then left them out in the rain for a month (whilst getting them dragged round my a couple of dodermans)... gorgeous.
And just to mix it up a bit, his 'American Depress' cards were a clever comment on the little hiccup in the American/world financial markets . I thought the clown/liberty print was beautifully clean and a strong image but not visceral enough to open the show day up with. But when you get the clown on the 'American Depress' card the more graphic nature of the iconography really worked.
Oh, and atomone... I managed get to the man to sign the back of one of my cards too well chuffed, and not a very expensive framing job either ;D
Good to see you again Romany, great photos as usual and glad the uploading issues were sorted. Have fun in sunnier climes

DFace aPOPcalypse Now Show, by Macdeee on Oct 3, 2008 9:13:51 GMT 1, Great show... I thought there were some outstanding canvases that would have made awesome prints. I wasnt into the superman one. Almost any other image would have seen me reaching for my wallet. Nice to see it had not sold out when I left at 8ish.
Great shots Romanywg... What were the books??? Were they just screen printed hymn books? Very cool.
The beer ran out too quickly.... But it seemed never ending at the Pure Evil gallery!

DFace aPOPcalypse Now Show, by G-Man on Oct 3, 2008 10:42:11 GMT 1, Great great show last night I would echo others on here and say that you've gotta see it with the installation
An amazing entrance through to the gallery and a good show put on
My fav were the spidey pieces but too expensive for me
Cool balloons, I took one for my kids who loved it!
I did see that someone had got a DFACE hymn book from the chapel which looked very very cool did anyone else notice these?

But I dint have any money to buy this one so said it was ok to just pass me by in the line.

DFace aPOPcalypse Now Show, by Agent Provocateur on Oct 3, 2008 12:23:11 GMT 1, Did you see two reprobates swigging cans of Becks at the back of the line when you joined Silky? I arrived, met MJ, went to get something to wet our whistles, came back and had missed the 'reserved print' hand out!!!! Haha saved me a bucket load of cash tho as a very kind man in Newcastle grabbed an 'Raven hair' for me.
