Football - Who going down?, by lastpost on May 25, 2009 20:11:29 GMT 1, I thought Shearer might have been up on the touchline screaming and shouting... I am not sure about him as a long term solution, I do however think that he will change parts of the club for the better and almost certainly get them out of that division behind the Baggies.

Football - Who going down?, by arcam1 on May 25, 2009 21:22:04 GMT 1, the latter stages of a relegation battle is not the time to throw in a television pundit with zero experiance as a manager to try and save the day Considering we had no manager at the time, I think he a least gave us 'some' chance of staying up, where as before we had none. But I think even he didn't realise how poor the players were. On paper the team looks ok, enough to stay up anyway. But the reality is many were just there to pick up their wages.

Football - Who going down?, by Heavyconsumer on May 26, 2009 2:09:04 GMT 1, I saw Burnley outplay us over a 2-legged semi-final recently after beating the Arsenal B-team and they were desperately unlucky not to make the Final! I'm happy for them and Owen Coyle has really won me over this season too (didn't know a lot about him beforehand), he seems a real gentleman. If the way they performed in the cups was anything to go by, they are very deserving of their promotion and next season will be double tough for Stoke and Hull imo, because the teams coming up are no push-overs.
Re: Newcastle, I agree 100% with what Greame's saying, it was no time to make ANOTHER emotional appointment - He should have learned not to listen to the fans after hiring Keegan! What they needed was someone like the insanely unpopular Venables to come in and strategize a few extra points out of those last 8 fixtures - I'm sure he'd have gone for the right money for just a couple of months. But they were screwed long before Shearer came in. I just think that his appointment was more about pandering to the fans than it was a sensible football based decision. Shearer can at least walk away knowing that there wasn't too much more he could have done, and he'd be mad not to imo - I believe Shearer will leave. I don't think there's an upside for either party in him staying and Ashley would be insane to want him imo. I'd be knocking on Steve Coppell's door in his shoes right now. He knows the Championship, he's done it before and he's available.

Football - Who going down?, by They call me Stephen on May 26, 2009 4:36:13 GMT 1, the red tops are reporting that shearerโs about to sign a 4 year managerial deal with total control over staff, wages, transfers etc...mad move in my opinion, just hope for the club/fans sake there is a decent managerial assistant working with him or else the murmurings of leeds might become a reality!
saying that the red tops also reported that freddie starr ate my hamster so im not sure how much should be taken at face value here...steve coppell is a good shout for newcastle imo

Football - Who going down?, by robinbanks on May 27, 2009 21:53:37 GMT 1, Can't say I'm not happy, won a few quid and on top of that have seen the most deserving team go down. I could go into a tirade about now about them but I won't I'll settle for another glass of champagne and wonder if they'll be back to getting sub-20k average attendances once again in a couple of years. Will they do another 'Leeds'... I won't be surprised and odds dependent I may be looking to back them to go down again
I believe this is what they call karma...

I believe your definition of karma is wrong
Beaten by the much better team on the night, no complaints whatsoever, I'm not going to resort to calling you a cunt as you did me, nor am I going to wish death on someone... An important difference I feel... Well done Barca, you deserved it
I believe this is what they call losing graciously...

I believe it's what they call stating the obvious, actually. What else can you say when you're played off the pitch for 80 minutes? 4-0 wouldn't have flattered Barca.
ps; I said I hope purple schnozz chokes on his gum, not that he chokes it.

What a lovely chap you are... I could have done what you did and run my mouth off abusing people I've never met, and wishing harm on others. Some of us are bigger than that though. United will be back stronger and hungrier next season, and will learn from that performance. The remit this season was to get number 18, done and happy with that, the CL would have been a bonus and we'll get another crack at number 4 and a go at number 19 next season.
Meanwhile, you enjoy the trip to Scunthorpe... Toodles

You did run your mouth off though didn't you... and not for the first time.
I'm sorry if you feel abused though - I honestly never realised you were so sensitive.
You're the only one who has used bad language on here though.
Now please stop accusing me of wishing harm on others - just think it would be funny to see Salex choking on his chuddy on the touchline - didn't say I wanted him dead or owt.
I shall enjoy Scunthorpe though, thanks.

I ran my mouth off? Where? I just gave my thoughts on what could happen to Newcastle if something major is not done. I also said I was very happy at winning a chunk of money - who wouldn't be?
You replied by calling me a cunt ("CU Next Tuesday then yeah?") which I feel is totally out of order - people have been banned on here for much less than that... and it doesn't abide to the forum rules.... my only surprise is you've not offered to meet me for a fight ;D
I'll try and not upset any more sensitive Geordies in Newcastle when I'm up there in June though

Ho ho ho - nice to see you exhibit that legendary manc sense of humour
Read this in the paper on the way home tonight... "Police also said that Peter Leech, 45, and his son Jordan, 19, were held after attempting to resist arrest in the Campo di Fiori square in the centre of Rome last night.
They were taken to the city's Regina Coeili jail and were due to appear before magistrates here later today in a fast-track hearing. Two other Britons who were not named were also held after they tried to pay for a โฌ300 meal in the Cafรฉ de Paris in Via Veneto with fake banknotes."
Glory, glory man united, eh?

You still here, and what are you wibbling on about?
Did it say what Mr Leech and his son were meant to have done? I suspect if they felt they hadn't done anything they may have not wanted to be arrested. And also if you traveled in Europe frequently you'd possibly be aware of a lot of fake Euro banknotes (especially the larger denominations โฌ100 etc - I had 4 of them from a foreign exchange in Ibiza a few years back - I make sure now I get small denomination notes)... if you don't travel frequently in Europe you may not realise this and end up with a few fakes. Additionally it only says Britons... must be United fans then
Not saying that's the case here, in either instance, but you can't take everything on the surface. If this was the worst that's happened it's been a very good trip indeed especially with the trouble that the Italian Ultras and police usually cause.

It really is shocking Cashman - not too long ago they were in that group below the 'big 4'.
3 pretty big teams got relegated from the Championship this season.
