Glasgow Rangers In Manchester, by graeme501 on May 15, 2008 17:20:57 GMT 1, for any mancs' on the forum appologies for messing up ur city a bit
i was there last night, but was at the stadium, the actions of some rangers fans were awful, throwing bottles, attacking policemen, but the vast majority of rangers fans are not like this
there was an estimated 175,000 fans in manchester, with maybe 200-500 involved in the trouble, being it only a car ride away, there was bound to be a few nutters
however, the organisation was terrible, no signs, no food available anywhere, the screen breaking down and 20,000 fans being told there was nowhere to watch the match was bound to cause agro
but the main cause of the problem was the manchester police saying it was ok to drink in the streets ! this was madness and was always going to cause problems, all it took was something to go wrong such as the screen breaking and that sparked everything off
was anyone here caught up in the madness ? i know the pictures paint a bad scene but this was the minority of gers fans, not the majority

Glasgow Rangers In Manchester, by graeme501 on May 15, 2008 18:43:49 GMT 1, its not the best, but there was a sequence of events leading up2 this
police went in heavy handed with riot gear earlier in the night
combined with a lot of drink, not being able to see the game, poor organisation, and the misjudgement of the numbers of rangers fans arriving, it was a recipy for disaster

Glasgow Rangers In Manchester, by dotdot on May 15, 2008 19:01:06 GMT 1, I heard it was a shambles.
The shaming of Scotland's footie again due to a few tossers who "coodni handle their bevvy".
I'd say it could have happened to any team - but it didn't it happened last night - and it will be remembered.
the gers were up for 4.... now nobody will care what they get.
sad night - and a pity for those who had to clean up this morning / afternoon.

Glasgow Rangers In Manchester, by graeme501 on May 15, 2008 19:03:33 GMT 1, yeah they did disgrace themselves
but manchester being so close to glasgow, bus or car ride away it gave the crazy people the chance to go down for a fight, which it appears what they did
all the true rangers fans went down to have a good time, and behaved themselves well

Glasgow Rangers In Manchester, by arcam on May 15, 2008 19:09:40 GMT 1, I recon that'll be the end of sporting events being shown on big screens not just in Manchester but around the country. It's always the minority who ruin it for the masses.

Glasgow Rangers In Manchester, by Heavyconsumer on May 15, 2008 19:12:53 GMT 1, They should know better than to stage a big final anywhere in Great Britain! It could have been any of the very large clubs imo. I agree 100% that the actions of the few were disgusting, but this has been a part of UK football culture since I was born (1977). Admitedly this is a problem that has shrunk in scale significanly over the last 20 years, but our society has this element that loves drinking more than it can handle and becoming violent (see it at kick out time on Friday night on any highstreet in the UK with a few clubs and bars) and it has always overlapped significantly with the element that attend football matches.
We should not have the privaledge of staging finals or ANY major football tournaments untill British fans (all of them without exception) can go a couple of seasons without any involvement in hooliganism! That's my view. God help all the tourists + police if we win the rights to stage a World Cup!

it happened in liverpool the night of the champions league final
one dickhead threw a bottle at the screen because we went 3-0 down
who'd have thought we'd end up winning ;D

Glasgow Rangers In Manchester, by felix on May 15, 2008 20:15:24 GMT 1, I was on holiday last year in Barcelona when Rangers were there - it was disgraceful, they completely disrespected the locals and made everyone feel uncomfortable - it was embarrassing to be speaking English, so we tried to speak spanish the whole time there
