The Best Film Ever, by Black Apple Art on Jul 6, 2014 23:00:21 GMT 1, Great movie that, for the most part, has gone under the radar. Scene when Javier Bardem tells the story of Cameron Diaz f**king his Ferrari is brilliant! Watched that trailer. Was surprised to see Ridley-Scott described as Academy award nominee. Thought he would have won one by now. Absolutely agree! If you can't score for Bladerunner then maybe those little gold men don't mean all that much. Also think Fassbender should have won for Shame and wasn't even nominated.

The Best Film Ever, by Deleted on Jul 11, 2014 18:58:52 GMT 1, Just spent 2 weeks locked up in a room at Southmead hospital. So watched lots of stuff. Of the flicks I watched I would consider the following to be essential viewing.
Intouchables- French film about a quadriplegic bloke and his carer. One of the funniest films I've ever seen and has plenty of art too. It's so good I nearly started a thread just about it. Based on a true story.
Nebraska- lovely film about a road trip by a Dad and his Son to collect a $1 million dollar marketing prize. It's beautiful.
La Haine- An older French film, which I have been meaning to watch for years. Features 3 friends during a period of rioting.
So many others. When I remember I'll write about some more.

The Best Film Ever, by Hubble Bubble on Jul 11, 2014 19:42:07 GMT 1, Hope you're ok, Slammer.
I went to see THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL t'other day at my local rep cinema ( 'the most beautiful cinema in the UK' - not my quote). I was a bit disappointed. Big fan of Anderson but this didn't set me alight. Much preferred Tenenbaums or the hugely underrated Darjeeling Limited.
Hope you're ok, Slammer.

He is my favorite Director. I tend to agree about "The Grand Budapest hotel'. Its a bit 'Wes Anderson by numbers' IMO. Still OK though.
My favorites - Rushmore Royal Tenebaums Fantastic Mr Fox

The Best Film Ever, by JAlternatión on Aug 4, 2014 22:26:07 GMT 1, Watched Cold in July recently.... very well written thriller that goes off in unexpected directions, giving it a lot more depth. As with all films at the moment, I'd probably avoid the trailer unless you want spoilers

The Best Film Ever, by balibob on Aug 30, 2014 9:53:29 GMT 1, Watched The Raid 2 earlier in the week, daft plot but all the stylized violence you can eat, great film. Also just started re watching all of the West Wing and got my 17yo daughter hooked. In my opinion, simply the greatest piece of television ever produced.

The Best Film Ever, by JAlternatión on Aug 30, 2014 11:31:09 GMT 1, Watched The Keeper of Lost Causes yesterday... if you like Nordic Noir, or thrillers in general, definitely check it out. Well scripted, acted and directed... makes you wonder why Hollywood can't do films to this level.
Also recommend Coherence if you like cerebral mind-twisters... along the lines of Primer/Another Earth

The Best Film Ever, by tas on Aug 30, 2014 12:58:36 GMT 1, Most of the films I initially thought of have already been mentioned.
Some may disagree but I thought The Orphanage was excellent. Ending had me staring at the screen with my mouth open for a good 10 minutes.
