The Best Film Ever, by churchwood on Mar 15, 2021 9:56:07 GMT 1, Has anyone seen "Come True" ? It's another new one.
It's been a while since I have seen a film I feel I need to watch again.
It's based around the lead character taking part in some sleep trials - I won't say anymore than that - it has elements of both sci-fi and horror.
I suspect it could be a real marmite film but both the soundtrack and cinematography are knockout and it the whole thing has a dreamlike fluidity to it.
I loved it

Looking forward to this.. Referred to as ‘the greatest artist you’ve never heard of’, Bill Traylor’s compelling life is put under the spotlight in a new documentary.

Also, 'Fred from Ireland' on Channel 4 ( UK ) is great. Subtitles are recommended mind.

I watched this recently too. Really enjoyed it. Riz Ahmed is a superb actor. Quite a few strings to his bow; I believe he’s also a talented musician. He was interviewed for Gounded by Louis Theroux recently. Available on bbc Sounds. A An entertaining interview.

Here’s the trailer, but I actually recommend watching the film without seeing the trailer first. I enjoyed not knowing what was coming. I completely agree!! There aren't many films (and especially documentaries) that make me gasp out loud but this was one. Totally breathtaking (no pun intended).
In a completely different vein, but an equally watchable and beautifully shot documentary was My Octopus Teacher. The concept seems a bit bizarre, but the relationship that develops between the diver and the octopus is not only surprising but very emotional to watch. It also convinced me to never eat octopus ever again!!

Thank you for the recommendation.
I watched Sound of Metal a couple of months ago, during a 30-day free-trial period for Amazon Prime. Waited until about Day 27 to see it, because the storyline was so easily-imaginable and terrifying to me. Akin to being a fine artist, or just an art collector, and then one day waking up blind.
For me, the opening scene was memorably excellent — especially when paired with the film's even-stronger and contrasting final scene.
Great performance by Riz Ahmed, as well as by Olivia Cooke. Minor role for Mathieu Amalric, whom I first discovered and appreciated in Munich. Brief cameo by three members of Surfbort (including Dani Miller) in case that band has any enthusiasts here.

The Best Film Ever, by met on Dec 13, 2021 16:47:17 GMT 1, In Bruges is a really really funny film. Also recommended. In Bruges is somewhat of a hidden gem. An often-overlooked aspect is the makeup artistry (or wizardry) showcased in this film. Don Logan is almost unrecognisable in his excellent supporting role as Harry Waters.
The video essay below may be of interest to fans of In Bruges.
