What's your best gig to SHOUT about?, by scavos on Sept 4, 2007 15:43:56 GMT 1, Another thread started heading in this direction so I've started this one up here: So what is the one gig you gloat about to anyone who'll listen? Mine is: Nirvana Nov 1991 at Hummingbird, Birmingham. Got completely wasted and nearly broke my elbow crowd surfing. Waited outside afterwards alone in the pouring rain to ask for autographs (no pen or paper) and just got star-struck. Just had a laugh while watching them squeeze into the mini-van with Shonen Knife. Krist Novoselic had to bend his neck as he sat on his chair cos he's so tall. Cobain was tiny!

What's your best gig to SHOUT about?, by pezlow on Sept 4, 2007 18:02:26 GMT 1, Martin Stephenson and the Daintees Manchester academy 1991. I still go and see Martin play live now. He is one of the best performers I have ever seen and it is crying shame that the music industry chewed him up and spat him out in the 1980's and early 1990's.

What's your best gig to SHOUT about?, by fullproof on Sept 4, 2007 19:46:33 GMT 1, Saw Nirvana play that tour in Bradford i think. Shonen Knife and Captain America supporting. Maybe it was toward the end of the tour and they were knackered, cos they didnt exactly rock the place. Sonic Youth In Leeds on the Goo tour however, was amazing. Gutted to have missed out on the gigs they played recently in London playing Daydream Nation.Anyone go? I feel old now!

What's your best gig to SHOUT about?, by scavos on Sept 4, 2007 23:30:29 GMT 1, Some crackers here folks. Yeah it was Captain America supporting on that tour - they became Eugenius cos Marvel were threatening to sue!
Another of mine was seeing Radiohead support the Frank and Walters in Edwards, Birmingham in 1992. Must have been 150-200 in there. I s**t you not. They f**king rocked. Thom with his wild yellow hair. They were so intense and sounded proper full on.
The Franks were all the rage then and I still love their stuff. All wearing their same orange long-sleeve t-shirts and and leggings. We are, we are, we are, we are, we are the Frank and Wallllllters!!! ;D ;D
Also saw Oasis in Edwards in April 1994 and propped up the bar next to Liam who was wearing a big red jacket. I tried to be cool and just did the 'nod' to him. He probably just scowled at me and sipped his lager! Again about 200 in there. I think their first single Supersonic had just been released? They were brilliant and 'I am the Walrus was like nothing else....god what a night!
As Jim Kerr said at Milton Keynes Bowl - 22-06-1986 when Maradonna's hand of God put us out the world cup - "Music's better than football!".

What's your best gig to SHOUT about?, by jipsy on Sept 5, 2007 8:50:21 GMT 1, Ozzie Osborne, Glasgow Barrowland, 1988 or thereabouts. I was 16 and had the longest side parting you've ever seen and a bumfluff moustache. I went with my mate Jock and digger and we each done a bottle of Buckie on the train through to Glasgow. That night was also my first introduction to the wonders of weed. I was wasted. Ozzie even back then looked ancient and was hobbling up and down the stage. The place was going mental and old Ozzie was throwing buckets of water over the crowd, at least I think it was water. When I got home my old dear was asking me if I had been drinking but my old Dad convinced her that I was just high from the adrenaline of my first gig. One of the best nights of my life.
