First single/record you ever bought!?, by insite on Oct 31, 2007 16:47:59 GMT 1, So before the '90's and E's and rave we had this, the League Unlimited Orchestra and magic mushrooms, oh those were the days. Funnily enough I was just listening to 'Things that Dreams are made of'
Spooky I know a few DJ's who've got the Unlimited album and still use it loads.

First single/record you ever bought!?, by caswellbay on Oct 31, 2007 18:12:46 GMT 1, Album - Slade alive, recently rebought on CD and I must admit it still sounds pretty good. Singles, I never needed to buy as my dad used to work for company which rented out jukeboxes, and I got a new collection every few weeks when things weren't in the charts anymore. Sadly lost the lot, including an early 70's jukebox when my dad decided to clear out his garage not long after I'd got married and moved out.

Pigbag! That chuffin' dance we used to do like some crazy bop but 20 times faster. Used to knacker my polyveldt Clarkes! (mmm nice wide fitting). Wouldn't let on that my calf muscles were bursting with pain as I was far too busy desparately failing to impress the ladies. ;D bah bah bah bah, bah bah bah bah.....

Brilliant !!! I was just thinking Corblimey how you were trying to be too cool because you were 12 in 77 and you must have had earlier stuff than the Pistols etc. Then I scrolled down. It was hypicritical of me because Gary Glitter My gang was given to me by my uncle in 75 and I bought My friend Stan the same day by Slade but all the way home I have been battling with myself and was going to say Life on Mars by David Bowie which was my 3rd, as hard to admit Glitter these days and rightly so. Fair play and nice 1.big Respect. The next big ones I remember were albums. Sex pistols, Damned, Clash debuts

Yes, I remember albums better (or cassettes as I bought then) I only really got into music when I was 11 - 12ish my first were XTC, The Stranglers, Sex Pistols, Sham 69, Wire, Ian Dury, Pink Floyd, Clash, Led Zeppelin, & Black Sabbath, quite a mixture.
Soon went on to Reggae/Ska, then Hip Hop, & Jazz, now it's all over the place in the last few weeks I've bought
The Quantic Soul Orchestra - Tropidelico (Funky Soul Latin) Gerardo Frisina - Note Book (Nu Jazz) Abdominal & DJ Fase - Flowtation Device (Hip Hop / Rap) Parov Stelar -Shine (Dance / Nu Jazz)
and I've 3 more on pre order by Flevens, Orgone, & Quasamodo
check them out at

On the subject of music I recently discovered why the drums on most modern record sound like wet farts, It's because of the loudness war, look at this.

This kind of effect can also happen with Hi Fi, very good systems with speakers that can handle a lot of power combined with a good amp that can 'hold back' but deliver much louder peaks sounds brilliant. Your bog standard ghetto blaster or cheap hi fi won't deliver those punchy peaks.
I've got some classic Gale 401 speakers, they can handle a constant 200w of power but can deliver well over that in peaks clearly, the amp (Quad 606) is a 140W (per channel) power amp, but can deliver much higher peaks. Although my system is now over 20 years old it still sounds brilliant (speakers needed restoring though)
Quad made that amp for 10 years and even it's replacement isn't much better, I'd certainly recommend a look around ebay for some good 'old' kit the Quad 606 can be picked up for around ยฃ300, it's very reliable but repairs would be pretty cheap and easy for your local repair shop.

first LP: some trashy early 90's dance compilation, but it did have Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega / DNA, quality from that period LOL!
Like a lot of people at that time, I taped off the radio, ha ha ha! No pocket money!!!!

Can't remember the first album exactly, but think it was Kaleidescope by Siouxsie and the Banshees.
