First single/record you ever bought!?, by Deleted on Jan 10, 2009 2:56:55 GMT 1, Right my mid life crisis is kicking in now, who remembers Pigbag ? Yeah, excellent. I've now got it on CD, it's a track on a compilation CD I think.
I've got the 7", Isn't it 'Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag'. Great tune if overused. Didn't a football club use it to come onto the pitch to ? (Bolton??) The followup 'Sunny Day' wasn't bad either (if my chronology is correct)
Anyway my 1st 7" was Metal Guru by TRex and I think I bought Rock and Roll Parts 1 and 2 by Gary Glitter on the same day (I'm old and my memory is playing up...thank God Wizbong is around! )
1st 12 " was Beesting by Camoflage (god only knows who they were or what became of them)
1st album was Changes One by David Bowie

First single/record you ever bought!?, by Jef Aerosol on Jan 10, 2009 11:46:03 GMT 1, my first 45rpm records were French stuff and some mainstream hits my parents offered me when I was about 8/10 years old. But the first one I actually bought myself was the single "Sunny Afternoon / I'm not like everybody else" by the Kinks. That must have been when I was about 11 or 12 years old (1968 or 1969). Then, I remember very well purchasing my first 33rpm Lps with the money I got for Xmas 1971 : "Cosmo's Factory" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "Let it be" by the Beatles (it had just been released) and "Greatest Hits" by Bob Dylan... I still have those cherished wax treasures in my huuuuuuuge vinyl collection (I never gor used to CDs much and still mostly listen to my 2500 vinyl albums and 1500 singles and e-p's! )...

First single/record you ever bought!?, by Blind Angle on Jan 10, 2009 11:56:51 GMT 1, The first record (single) i bought was "Guitar Man" with Elvis Presley. It was a birthday present for my mum who was a big Elvis fan. The first record i bought for myself was Misplaced Childhood by Marillion at the age of 10-12...I had never heard the music, but i liked the cover:-) When i came home and listened to the album i almost cried with dissapointment as i did not understand a peep of it.............now i listen to it with great nostalgia.
cheers

First single/record you ever bought!?, by Standard on Jan 10, 2009 12:17:12 GMT 1, First 7 inch was 'I don't like Mondays' by the Boomtown Rats. I was 9. Remember it v.well as it cost me miles more than my pocket money at the time and I took it home to play it on my first record player. One of those players that came in a hard box finished with like a string webb material and where you could stack the singles on them.
First Album was Bad Manners - I loved Ska when I was a kid but also remember buying Kim Wilde around the same time and some adam of The Ants.
Magnetic Tape - can't remember!
CD - can't remember!

First single/record you ever bought!?, by Guy Denning on Jan 10, 2009 13:35:55 GMT 1, Well - if we can gloss over Pinky and Perky singles on the MFP label (I take the same defence as a previous poster, that they were bought for me) the VERY first single I stumped up my own pocket money for (I reckon it was about 50p) was 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and there was even more embarrassing stuff after that. But the first one I usually own up to was 'Ca Plane Pour Moi' by Plastic Bertrand - late 70s?

Absolute classic Wiz, the start of the punk era methinks!!!
Guy, nothing wrong with Pinky & Perky, was one of the first records I was given, (too young to buy it).

33s not so bad first one was Inflammable Material by SLF closely followed by London Calling and the rest as they say is history or punk followed by indie followed by anything
