I heard on a TV article about the iphone that generation 2 is likely to have GPS etc, so i'll wait and see what happens i think

Pez, O2 do a sim only deal, so in fact you can just buy any phone outright, not sure if they are going to try and lock the phone to O2 but you should be able to get the "whatever its called" code and unlock it for any network i think. anyone know any better?

from O2 website:
Can I "unlock" the iPhone and use it with another network? iPhone is restricted to use on the O2 network unless you are roaming. If you do not enter into and remain in an airtime agreement with O2 on one of our tariffs for iPhone, you will not be able to use the phone functionality of your iPhone.
If you attempt to unlock iPhone and use on another network, it may become permanently unusable. Making unauthorised modifications to the software on your iPhone violates the iPhone software license agreement, and the inability to use your iPhone due to unauthorized software modifications is not covered under your iPhone's warranty.

I'd like an iPhone, but I'll wait, you'll need to pay about ยฃ270 for the phone AND sign up to a 18 month contract at a minimum of ยฃ35 per month at the moment. If only I could buy the phone and use my existing sim.

iPhone, by johnas on Nov 9, 2007 13:40:26 GMT 1, as a mac user at work, i'm thinking it could be good from a business point of view - to have everything i need on the go and to be able to sync with my work computer.
agreed about the N95 though - watched the gadget show a few weeks ago and the Nokia is a stomping phone. But as a mac user and the compatibility makes me lean towards it
can't decide what to do

"Apple and its wireless partner in France, Orange, will sell an unlocked version of the iPhone, a spokeswoman for Orange confirmed to the International Herald Tribune. The unlocked iPhone will carry a premium price, although the companies did not say how much more it would be.
Apple is being forced to sell an unlocked iPhone in France because of a French law that forbids bundling the sale of a mobile phone and a mobile operator."
Need I say any more?

That sounds good, I'm on Orange too
Have to see what the price is though, probably too expensive.

They will probably offer the people on contract a deal they can't refuse.
