..with inbuilt GPS too...

i got a touch a few weeks ago and absoloutely love it, awesome for watchin movies on planes etc but you need to download a convertor to copy dvd's to the ipod format cost $20.
internet is pretty quick at home or wherever there is wireless, but as i found out it's a bit rarer than i expected. you have to pay for bt openzone in airports etc.
i still like the idea of having a seperate phone but if the touch is anything to go by and you want to combine t with your phone them i'd go for it. they're wicked!

i think it's just a matter of whether you weigh a 'converged' product higher than separate pieces that do the job better

I've seen a 'cracked' one already, maybe i'm old fashioned but i want to call and text that's it

For internet?

I played on one in the states - taxi driver had one he gave us to look at on the journey from airport - it was amazing! all the features worked smooth and the screen quality and internet hook up was amazing quality - he had it hooked to something and kept asking what music we liked where he would type it in and that track with video would play seconds later
very slick very sexy...

other usual cool apple touches - menus and applications - all very quick and smooth, phone use simple and good, the navigation system was great, in all it was impressive - i really wanted one after playing with it.

But i didn't play for too long or test it much - he did all the internet bit

so the guys neging it above could well be right

AND - that was in the States and i know their service providers and services are different.

can imagine it being shit if it locked up like the N nokias or the internet connection wasn't smooth/quick enough

also pretty big and felt a bit stupid as a phone - too wide - kind of like speaking into your wallet

agree with th different tools for dif jobs approach, used to use my phone for out and about shots - N73 - but the fucking thing locked up and was so slow on basic functions - like phoning(!) that i fucked it off got a 6300 which works perfect is small and does the basics well - and got a small camera for the back pocket

nice toy and a must have if you're into gadgets though

I agree too, BUT, I don't carry my camera around with me all the time, so in an emergency some sort of camera could be handy (eg photo evidence of car prang).

What I do think is important for phones (apart from the obvious calls & text) is web/mail and very good note books, calendars, diaries, contact details etc that can all sync up flawlessly with all your contacts etc on the computer. I've got a Palm Treo which does all that, it can even do sat nav if you buy the Tom Tom software and buy GPS aerial for it, but I much prefer the design of the iPhone, it take the touch screen to a new level IMO.

You don't need to carry around all your music, I've got over 1200 CD's but I'm happy with having around 70 of them on my 4gig iPod nano in my pocket, that's around 70 hours worth, and the iPhone has 8gig! plenty IMO you can always dock it and change the music every now and then.

What did you do a few years ago before MP3 players were around? I bet you'd of been happy with 10 CDs on the move.
