Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by romanywg on Mar 4, 2008 13:03:05 GMT 1, The top photo is clearly not Banksy it is to rough, and the lines are good enough. The second one is very much like Goya, one of his 12 dark paintings, have a look at him, he used to do paintings for the Spanish royal family.
So are you saying it's not Banksy or Mantis but is by the Spanish painter Goya?

That'd be really impressive. He's been dead 150+ years.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by webby on Mar 4, 2008 14:26:15 GMT 1, I am saying the Tesco is Not Banksy as he is Barcelona, the other one is very similar to an artist named Goya, who compiled 12 dark paintings and he has been dead for years.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by yapsey on Mar 5, 2008 21:29:39 GMT 1, whoever did it, they got the bag the wrong way round. The 'Tesco' word goes at the bottom. I don't reckon someone like B would have made a fundamental error like that imho, he's always accurate. And the bag is poor, very poor!
i disagree - remember the sniper in bristol (with the kid with the paper bag) with the hands the wrong way around?...

Well you know what they say-- consistency is the hallmark of a professional.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by yapsey on Mar 6, 2008 13:13:37 GMT 1, The owner of the pharmacy in Essex Road, Islington, is said to be thrilled by his new paint job. "I just walked into the shop on Monday and, lo and behold, there it was," he told the London Paper.
"I am absolutely delighted - I think it's just fantastic. I've heard how much these works can go for. We would consider selling the wall, but not the shop. I think anyone who would want to erase it is crazy. It's a piece of art.www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/03/06/nbanksy106.xml
banksy might as well had just left them a couple of hundred grand on their doorstep. why do people have to be so greedy; just leave it for everybody to enjoy - not just some hedge fund manager who buys it at bonhams!

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by melfeasance on Mar 6, 2008 15:42:58 GMT 1, And from The Daily Mail: Banish the Bags www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=527404&in_page_id=1770
The all-pervasive Tesco plastic bag has been celebrated in a new street painting.
It appeared on the side of a chemist shop in Islington, north London - a few hundred yards from a Tesco - just days after the Daily Mail launched the Banish the Bags campaign.
Pharmacy owner Raj Chavda, 53, is thrilled. "It's just fantastic," he said. "It's a piece of art. We would consider selling the wall, but not the shop." For what it's worth, here's what I make of this.
First, the Daily Mail uses Banksy's work to promote their Ban the Bag campaign. Second, the building's owner is thrilled to use it to make money. And third, if the owner doesn't hurry, some splasher will use it to express how pissed off he is with the world.
Because of the current feeding frenzy over Banksy, if he wants to get a message across, it has to be highly publicized right away. He has become (or perhaps always was) a performance artist.

A friend of mine reviewed the essex road piece. Please feel free to comment...
As it happens a mate of mine owns one of those 'girl hugging bomb' images handed out at the anti-Iraq war march a few years ago - I might make him flog it.
