Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by topper007 on Feb 5, 2009 10:20:55 GMT 1, Am I missing something or are a few of the artists they initially said would be represented not included after all? Sale pages still says :
"The Urban Art collection contains works by the leading national and international street artists of today, such as, Banksy, Nick Walker, Adam Neate, Faile, Antony Micallef, Guy Denning, Bast, Seen, Aiko, Matt Small, D*Face, Doze Green, alongside several artists who will be creating work primarily for the sale, such as Goldie, Ame 72, CBloxx, Inkie, Dan, Mau Mau, Eelus, K-Guy, Rowdy, Flx, Silent Hobo, David Walker, Pinky, Ryca, Jim Starr, SPQR, Motorboy, Kev Munday and joined by auction virgins, Chu, Partism, Pam Glew, Faith 47, Klit, TRXTR, Byroglyphics and Grafter."
And once again the Nick Walker piece seems to be there for the sake of having some NW - I'm a fan but Dreweatts don't seem to get the best pieces of his in their sales IMO.

Just shows that everyone wants to keep the good stuff
Or maybe discovered that Dreweatts isnt in the same league marketing wise as The top 4 auction houses, and are saving it for them

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by cookiemonster on Feb 5, 2009 11:09:37 GMT 1, very very disappointing auction, with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 pieces, Rene Gagnon soup can being one of them. Topper007 the other artists ARE represented in the Princes Trust Auction - any artist that have pieces in the Princes Trust Auction do not have any pieces in the main auction.
Lot 69 - No Ball Games

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Cocteau 101 on Feb 5, 2009 11:13:37 GMT 1, Lot 69 - No Ball Games, 2008 Spraypaint on steel Unique in this format Signed and dated in pen on reverse Framed by Pauli Framers 91cm x 91.5cm Provenance: Acquired by the current owner directly from the artist Authenticated by Pest Control Office This lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Pest Control Office
How the f**k do people manage to get works painted in 2008 direct from the artist, with the main man it seems to be more who you know than what you know or where your intentions lay. I've heard a few stories lately of an inside cabal being offered small edition runs, APs etc, it's all very frustrating.

I can assume that Lot 69 isnt about who you know, more about how greedy are you.

Well spotted.
There is actually a bit of overlap in terms of artists appearing in both but obviously I appreciate the reason for the separation of the two auctions.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by graeme501 on Feb 5, 2009 11:23:08 GMT 1, its the difference between POW and LAZ, with POW it's more of a business for everybody, the prints go up, they get sold to anybody who sticks on in their basket - very fair
LAZ is more of an 'art gallery' type thing, he looks after the best clients, with the rare pieces that most of us dont get to see, its just the way it is and nothing to get wound up about
but with the inclusion of a few 'direct from artist 2008' recently, expect that list to be whittled down a wee bit

Love that Rowdy painting - is that the 12 days one?
Anyway, good luck all.

so that's the banksy piece this auction? interesting that this one was on their site yesterday...
urbanart.dnfa.com/
that's now 2 pieces that i've not seen before from 2008. did i miss a show or have these been sold to private collectors who have flogged them right away?
or do you think the banksy team have got fed up so seeing these high auction prices and decided to get in on the act? which i have to admit is fair enough, i just wondered if i missed a show and there were a load of banksy pieces that that i haven't seen.

Don't understand the "make your mind up".
But I've had an interesting conversation that leads me to believe my original feelings for the artist in question, that I had when I first saw his work many years ago i.e. that he was intelligent, humourous and had a high degree of empathy with his surroundings and those around him should remain intact and in fact my admiration for the guy grows as a result. For those who think money is everything GREED IS NOT GREAT and my dismay knows no limits. Purity of spirit and thought should be admired not jumped on for a quick buck.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by pezlow on Feb 5, 2009 14:13:33 GMT 1, Where did that picture of lot 69 come from? It's not on the auction catalogue. If that is the piece being auctioned isn't that from the barely legal show? I'm confused (as usual).
