lets just hope its not a remix of "taste of faile" then u can have mine for the 100GBP i lost
other than that, a top response from great guys.
i wonder if there is a cut off limit. That is, if u lost 6 GBP are you still in or did you have to paypal say at least 20 GBP? ahhhhh who cares ;D

gent รacardi on Aug 30, 2007 9:23:08 GMT 1, Like I said before it's cause and effect. Faile's incompetence, paypal's effect. Can you sell things that you don't have? Can I buy things that don't exist?
The unfortunate thing is that it's not as clear cut. If the prints were released physically, then nothing like this could have possibly happened, because there would be only one queue, and overselling would be impossible. But I think it's safe to suppose that what happened with Faile a couple of days ago was a fault of technology, not Faile themselves.
Imagine this scenario: Suppose that they have 1 print left. Person A loads the page, and clicks the "Add to basket" button. But unfortunately, due to connection issues, the transaction fails. So Person A has to reload, which takes a bit of time.
Meanwhile, Person B loads the page. Singe Person A didn't manage to add the print to his basket, there is still 1 print left. Person B clicks on the "Add to basket" button almost at the same exact time as Person A does. Since at the time of transaction, there was 1 print available, both transactions go through. Obviously, either person A or person B has to get a refund. Faile goes through the records, finds out that Person B completed the transaction 0.01 seconds later than Person A. Thus, Person B gets the refund, and Person A gets the print.
You see, it's really nothing to do with Faile's 'incompetence'. It's the flaw in the technology... and there's just no way to get around artifacts like this, not at this point in time anyway. What the folks at Faile did was very fair IMO, and the fact that people got refunds were by no means due to neglect on Faile's part.
Now, PayPal on the other hand... even a 2 year old can tell you that what they did was completely unfair (but somehow they can't, gee I wonder why! ). Losing the conversion fees is bad enough, but I fear that some unfortunate people who got their money refunded will have their funds held by PayPal for a longer time than 48 hours. They seem to have a knack for holding on to peoples' funds for no apparent reason, and in the meantime, they make and keep the interest that's earned. Really makes my blood boil just thinking of it!
Anyway, my whole point of this rant is this: I think the incompetence lies heavily on PayPal's side, not Faile. Faile did the best they could with all these limitations, and to come up with a special edition for the customers who got refunded is just icing on the cake IMHO. They did not have to do this at all... but they did. Big huge kudos are due.

FAILED REPUTATION, by Pattycakes on Aug 30, 2007 9:32:08 GMT 1, I am massively impressed with Faile. I had bit of a rant yesterday here yesterday, and sent them a very polite but ever so slightly "Britishly" annoyed email. Their reply was virtually immeadiate, follwed a few hours later by the one in this thread. I am certain that they had no idea Paypal would take a cut of the refunds for international buyers (how could they know this). The guys are awesome and by making a print for all those who lost out they are really sending the message that they care about their fans.
I know there are quite a few of us affected, and there are going to be a fair few flippers out there who will try and exploit Faile's generosity, so I suggest that forum members boycott any of these prints that go up on eBay. Some of us lost ยฃ20 some much more, I bet you can guarantee that whatever is sent, it'll be awesome - lets not exploit that.

I bet the refund print will be great and interesting to see how big the edition is, will give an idea of just how popular these guys are. Loving the Faile.

Top and bottom of it is they did the decent thing. Everyone's happy. Just hope it's not an image of Poison Boy. What's all that about?

FAILED REPUTATION, by simongoff on Aug 30, 2007 11:01:42 GMT 1, The way I understood this, is that all of those that were refunded will get a print which we will have to pay for but they will cover shipping?
My question is how will the determine how much the print will be as I bought the Mary and stretched myself anyway, will they be $1200 or $600 or have I got it all wrong..........
Cheers
Simon

FAILED REPUTATION, by rolyateel on Aug 30, 2007 13:38:50 GMT 1, I just posted this on the refunds thread:
this is what my paypal acc says:
28 Aug. 2007 Add Funds from a Bank Account Completed Details ยฃ327.78 GBP 28 Aug. 2007 Currency Conversion Completed Details -ยฃ327.78 GBP 28 Aug. 2007 Currency Conversion Completed Details $640.00 USD 29 Aug. 2007 Refund Completed Details $640.00 USD 29 Aug. 2007 Currency Conversion Completed Details -$640.00 USD 29 Aug. 2007 Currency Conversion Completed Details ยฃ327.39 GBP 29 Aug. 2007 Temporary Hold Placed ... -ยฃ327.39 GBP
so I don't think I've lost much money...ยฃ0.39 to be exact, will just take a couple of days to go back into my account.
I'm guessing this is cause my Paypal is funded from my bank account, not a credit card. Where people are b**ching about Paypal (which I think is justified to an extent), I'm fairly sure Paypal will have to pay CC fees to the CC company, which are approx 2.5%...not sure what happens on refunds
Can anyone clarify?
