Micallef -Sale news, by alsbabar on Nov 26, 2007 12:51:18 GMT 1, I read somewhere previously, that AM himself wanted the prices to go down on prints, as he floods the market with large numbered editions. Or could it simply be that the prices for prints in the first instance, were overpriced?
Opinions?

Micallef -Sale news, by buffruffly on Nov 26, 2007 13:19:10 GMT 1, IMHO - I think everyone was expecting a massive 'Banksy' style furore of the show, but when that didn't happen the prices started to drop. Or at least re-adjust to normal levels. The had been artificially inflated due to a perception that the LA show would have a Banksy-effect on the prices

Micallef -Sale news, by cozzacult11 on Nov 26, 2007 23:13:35 GMT 1, apparently hes got a show with the national gallery or something, coming up at the mid to end of next year. I think it travels round Europe the goes to Asia. So his profile can only improve. This with the rumour that no more prints will be released through laz or pow, I would expect prices to get back up to and even surpass those of this summer

Micallef -Sale news, by darjeeling on Nov 27, 2007 3:47:11 GMT 1, I don't know about Micallef. He's secured a small spot in the art world but I don't know if he will be going all star even if he is some part of a traveling museum show. But who knows. Still some people are trying to get about $15,000 for his minotaur weapon prints on ebay! Maybe it's worth it? But that's really crazy money for a print. And I do think a fair amount of the work at the LA show was weak. And just way too much hype leading into the show at a point when the hype was getting tiresome.
And i just don't like those silver sculptures at the LA show at all. And this image, I just don't get this painting at all... It's the last thing I'd want hanging on my wall. Well maybe not the last thing but close...

Micallef -Sale news, by motor on Nov 27, 2007 8:43:42 GMT 1, I love this when people here talking about artist skills and his future according to the how is he/she performing on ebay. If someone's making profit on artist - then artist great. Then once people can't make much money of it - artist is rubbish. Wake up people there are other more important things which should dictate artist's future. And one of them is quality of artist's work which in Micallef's case is brilliant. But if you know it only from ebay pictures...sorry. Only time will tell what's gonna happen to him (not a 3 month time though )

Micallef -Sale news, by Gentle Mental on Nov 27, 2007 9:13:48 GMT 1, that article was up months ago... It's easy to feel edgy and insecure when you've splurged on ยฃ4k on editions of 400 lithos by a "minor"!
And seeing its value plunged below costs!
But peacekeeper is just soooo lovely to look at. So i'm ok. 1k is a fair price. The man is a genius. He just needs a major, mainstream hit... 21CL was pretty close... it's shouldn't be too hard.

The frame is from Rome and cost about 45usd a ft. the second frame has two edges that are outlined in red. uzi's and minotaur are all framed that way. they do take up alot of room though. cant say the iphone does it much justice. ill post them in the micallef section when the cannon is up and running.

Micallef -Sale news, by Danger Mouse on Nov 27, 2007 10:18:36 GMT 1, apparently hes got a show with the national gallery or something, coming up at the mid to end of next year. I think it travels round Europe the goes to Asia. So his profile can only improve. This with the rumour that no more prints will be released through laz or pow, I would expect prices to get back up to and even surpass those of this summer
Totally agree. Things will pick up next year and future years. This guy has talent, it is just a rocky market at the moment with too many people getting the jitters and panicing.

Micallef -Sale news, by bond on Nov 27, 2007 10:25:27 GMT 1, Micallef's work is genius especially the charcoal pieces such as FF JD and now GIWTBB.
The recent Laz prints flooded the market as he planned . I don't think anyone should be judging the quality of his work against current prices.
In the weeks leading up to the LA show prices shot up as speculators predicted that prices would rocket al la Banksy.
Too much expectation was built into the prices and now they are reaching a more natural level coupled with tighter money in general .
All it means is anyone who wants a GIWTBB for example can get one for about ยฃ 450 - and in my view that's the best ยฃ 450 anyone can spend at the moment.
