Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by snausages on Dec 12, 2009 19:24:05 GMT 1, just driven all the way back to somerset after a quick kip earlier. involved in an RTA with a drunk driver on the m4 who had been weaving throughout traffic in his s**tty mondeo, i was in the fasty lane going under a lepton and he pulls out from the middle to about 1m infront of me with no lights on. i smack on the brakes (ABS) and weave into the middle lane to avoid him and he goes straight accross into the barrier and spins around behind me. pulled over and got out, police about 30 seconds behind in unmarked car, came up to me him and the other people who had whitenessed it and asked who was the mondeo driver. the guy says he was. he says weve had 15 report of your dangerous driving in the last 10 minutes so your underarrest for dangerous driving, he cuffs him and was like and i smell alcohol on your breath.. anyway, is it wrong the first thing i checked before my car was my banksy which was on the back seat...
Glad that your Banksy is okay grafik. ;D

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by grafik on Dec 12, 2009 19:28:33 GMT 1, just checked the banksy, its alright i think. i dont want to take it all out of the tube as its going MFM next week.
one of the girls who pulled up behind me on the hard shoulder had been cut up by him about 2 miles previously when he was driving on the hard shoulder with no lights on. she called the police and just as they caught up to him he tried to fuck me over. thats why the rozzers were there in about 10 seconds.

Great to have been part such a momentous event and stoked to score an awesome print. Would definately do it again - even in the middle of f'in December. Great photo of the aftermath.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by hlarmy on Dec 12, 2009 20:43:20 GMT 1, Congrats to all who got one; I didn't realise it is practically as long horizontal as it is vertical. Will make a nice change to most Banksy prints of late.... I also think the grey works really well although I must say I'm not sure that this will be a classic.
Does anyone have any ideas as to the meaning of the print???

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by chippy on Dec 12, 2009 20:54:31 GMT 1, Flipper This, Ebay That.
Price is kept low, partly because of Banksy's ethics, partly incredibly shrewd business. His rise to fame in the "commercial" art world was not just down to artistic merit but because of the massive demand and rise in price of his work, ebay, auctions etc.
This wonderfully simple yet extremely clever way of creating hype; keep price low, generate ridiculous amount of talk, want, desire, has and will continue to serve him and POW very well.
(for example just see Micallef, Neate, Faile, all brilliant and very successful artists, but since the profit was taken out of there print releases so the public frenzy and desire behind their work wilted, unfortunate but true.)
Lets face it, it's really not just a pretty picture anymore and has not been for a while.
many of us even with the best intentions of framing or keeping know that once purchasing this print we have by default gained x amount in financial assets.
So please calm it on the flipper this flipper that grumblings, OK the Organized syndicates are pretty annoying, but can you really blame average Joe this side of Christmas in a recession, camping in the elements braving the wonderfully pissed world of E1 for a grand, I mean really?
Unless of course you do not have to worry about the bills etc luckily for you these can be seen merely as brilliant pieces of well executed witty art, unfortunately as much as I love my art collection, I am not in the position to overlook there value, they know there place.
Congratulations to all that got one.

Asside from the irony of the kids playing ball with a no ball games sign my take on it is a comment on the signs that can be seen on loads of buildings (especially round my way in north east london on estates where families with kids live) - where are the kids supposed to play and what kind of kids do we end up with if we don't let them play.
What do others reckon??

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by digitalkid on Dec 12, 2009 21:10:52 GMT 1, I don't think most flippers need to make an easy £1k to survive - it's more likely to be greed IMO. If someone honestly needed 1K to pay the bills and keep the wolf from the door I wouldn't blame them for a blatant flip. I just don't think people in such dire needs are really looking at buying art to flip..
Anyway who cares about flippers in this thread really?! Anyone who braved last night gets the thumbs up from me

I think the irony is the main concept here and why the print is slightly weak for Banksy IMO. We also have these no ball games signs down south but parks and kids playgrounds can be found on most estates or nearby..

Dire need, poverty, new TV, Holiday (see what I did there, I'm like Nas or something) It makes no difference, 1k is 1k and 1k is a lot of money to most... do what you like with it, spend it fags and trips to the Zoo for all I care...
Footnote:
Although I would recommended a few pound be spent on a trip to Tayyabs, a wonderful Pakistani curry house, rated one of the best in the UK (and its dirt cheap making it flipper paradise), just round the corner to POW, and guess what on Fridays and Saturdays if you have not booked a table you have to Que to eat, how great is that, (just like a Banksy), for up to 3 hours, get down there now and there might still be a ticket for the Masala fish, Turmeric colourway, grilled edition of 150, spiced by the chef.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by Bram on Dec 12, 2009 21:22:07 GMT 1, Meanwhile in nearly 230 homes across the uk......
"love, I'm just nipping down to pow for the new banksy, I think the living room needs a bit of spicing up with a bit of grey loving" "ok darlin' are you going to be long" "about a day love, oh by the way, I'm taking the family savings with me" "no problem sweet heart, you just wrap up warm, it's brass monkey's out there"
......24 hrs later
"honey, papa's home" "oh thank god, while you have been away, the cat needs urgent surgery, the house needs under pinning and granny has had to be flown to America for that life saving operation that isn't available in the UK thanks to our repressive government. I don't know how we are going to afford it?"
