Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by spirit on Dec 12, 2009 21:33:24 GMT 1, Congrats to all who got one; I didn't realise it is practically as long horizontal as it is vertical. Will make a nice change to most Banksy prints of late.... I also think the grey works really well although I must say I'm not sure that this will be a classic. Does anyone have any ideas as to the meaning of the print? ?? Asside from the irony of the kids playing ball with a no ball games sign my take on it is a comment on the signs that can be seen on loads of buildings (especially round my way in north east london on estates where families with kids live) - where are the kids supposed to play and what kind of kids do we end up with if we don't let them play. What do others reckon??
Interesting comment. As well as the obvious irony you mention above, it seems to me to be a statement of rebellion against the (nanny) state.
The sign represents the rules. The kids represent freedom.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by spirit on Dec 12, 2009 21:34:04 GMT 1, Meanwhile in nearly 230 homes across the uk...... "love, I'm just nipping down to pow for the new banksy, I think the living room needs a bit of spicing up with a bit of grey loving" "ok darlin' are you going to be long" "about a day love, oh by the way, I'm taking the family savings with me" "no problem sweet heart, you just wrap up warm, it's brass monkey's out there" ......24 hrs later "honey, papa's home" "oh thank god, while you have been away, the cat needs urgent surgery, the house needs under pinning and granny has had to be flown to America for that life saving operation that isn't available in the UK thanks to our repressive government. I don't know how we are going to afford it?" "wait, I have an idea" ;D

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by Daniel Silk on Dec 12, 2009 21:37:06 GMT 1, Flipper This, Ebay That. Price is kept low, partly because of Banksy's ethics, partly incredibly shrewd business. His rise to fame in the "commercial" art world was not just down to artistic merit but because of the massive demand and rise in price of his work, ebay, auctions etc. This wonderfully simple yet extremely clever way of creating hype; keep price low, generate ridiculous amount of talk, want, desire, has and will continue to serve him and POW very well. (for example just see Micallef, Neate, Faile, all brilliant and very successful artists, but since the profit was taken out of there print releases so the public frenzy and desire behind their work wilted, unfortunate but true.) Lets face it, it's really not just a pretty picture anymore and has not been for a while. many of us even with the best intentions of framing or keeping know that once purchasing this print we have by default gained x amount in financial assets. So please calm it on the flipper this flipper that grumblings, OK the Organized syndicates are pretty annoying, but can you really blame average Joe this side of Christmas in a recession, camping in the elements braving the wonderfully pissed world of E1 for a grand, I mean really? Unless of course you do not have to worry about the bills etc luckily for you these can be seen merely as brilliant pieces of well executed witty art, unfortunately as much as I love my art collection, I am not in the position to overlook there value, they know there place. Congratulations to all that got one. Chippy

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by grafik on Dec 12, 2009 21:41:56 GMT 1, im still really annoyed with the 3 people i know in the 130's/140's who flipped theirs minutes after getting them to a tout for 1150.
if they were going to be selling them that cheap i would have got them to put them on here so some people could get a relative bargin.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by curiousgeorge on Dec 12, 2009 21:47:41 GMT 1, I don't think most flippers need to make an easy £1k to survive - it's more likely to be greed IMO. If someone honestly needed 1K to pay the bills and keep the wolf from the door I wouldn't blame them for a blatant flip. I just don't think people in such dire needs are really looking at buying art to flip.. Anyway who cares about flippers in this thread really?! Anyone who braved last night gets the thumbs up from me Dire need, poverty, new TV, Holiday (see what I did there, I'm like Nas or something) It makes no difference, 1k is 1k and 1k is a lot of money to most... do what you like with it, spend it fags and trips to the Zoo for all I care... Footnote: Although I would recommended a few pound be spent on a trip to Tayyabs, a wonderful Pakistani curry house, rated one of the best in the UK (and its dirt cheap making it flipper paradise), just round the corner to POW, and guess what on Fridays and Saturdays if you have not booked a table you have to Que to eat, how great is that, (just like a Banksy), for up to 3 hours, get down there now and there might still be a ticket for the Masala fish, Turmeric colourway, grilled edition of 150, spiced by the chef.
How many did you get mate? 3 or 4?

What an intelligent and well thought out response to my post's on the current Banksy Print demand... or should I have just said... How many did you get mate? 0 or 0.

Even after I highlighted the baseless validity of your schoolboy jibes, you find no argument or response other than the previous mentioned.
I request you read my first post and take what I said on board the silly tugboat of yours.
You know nothing of me, my interests or collection.
Tally-Ho.

Shout out to all the forum members lined up in the 60's and 70's. Great to meet you all. Cant for the life of me remember your forum names (if i got them at all).
Props to my lovely wife who saved a few lives by dropping down some camping chairs and sleeping bags (rural camo in an urban environment) at midnight for all the suckers (myself included) who dropped everything to get there from work with no preparation WHATSOEVER!!
NO CHANCE i would ever sell this print. Dont think i have earned anything quite as much as this!!
Great experience. Big up Joe & Billy and the Savage Nomads!!
Hugs.

DC Took a punt and traveled up from Bristol yesterday at 2pm, joined the queue at 5pm at position 66, got back to Bristol today at 2pm - 24 hour round trip and 17 hours in the queue.
Was an absolute ball - enjoyed the experience with some great guys in the 60-70's. Massive thanks to Mick (and his wife) for the chairs and everest sleeping bag. Also a big-up to Chris, Steve, Chuckey etc who kept us entertained. Have to say the locals were very inquisitive and very friendly.
Well chuffed with the print which will be hanging pride of place on my wall. I think we should say a big thank you to POW for organising this really well. The queue numbers were given out and everything went really smoothly.

Good post, hadnt really thought about the price point before, but makes perfect sense, great marketing strategy.
Cant argue with you on the rest of the post either. It could make a big difference to a families Christmas having a bonus grand in the bin.

That is very silly. Pretty sure they'd have got £1300-£1500 from someone here. I'd certainly pay that much... unless I win a green one!

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by monkeyballs on Dec 12, 2009 22:41:14 GMT 1, Have to say that although I couldn't give a toss about the print, as its IMO a weaker version of the original message of the ball in TV, I actually kinda wish I had queued up now. My night was spent looking on here for updates before my little one decided he wanted to go off every hour on the hour between 1-7am. As such sitting in my replica scott of the antarctic jacket and some cardboard with a bottle of whisky, Stellas and visual entertainment sounds rather attractive.
The sleep deprivation combined with hang over would be quite something! Well done all, next year, should it happen again, I'll do it. A festival without music.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by grafik on Dec 12, 2009 22:43:13 GMT 1, i think 1750 is fair and about right.
i think there will be alot of buyers once the green has been done.
alot of people still believe they have a chance with the green.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by butterfly on Dec 12, 2009 22:46:45 GMT 1, Just woke back up after 17 hours on commercial road. Didnt sleep a wink but had an absolute ball.
Totally agree with you.
We've seen many curious people (what are you queuing for?) and it was funny to see their face and support for us auditioning for the X factor...
Despite the cold and lack of comfort, I really enjoyed the experience and was surrounded by great people and forum members. Thanks to the ones who shared their duvets with me ;D. We had good laughs.
After all these festivities of great art and shows in the last couple of weeks, this was the icing on the cake for my Christmas.
A Massive thank you to POW for the smooth organisation and making it safe for us with the security guards.
