Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by sug on Dec 13, 2009 1:52:29 GMT 1, this "scalping" game that has been created is just ugly and to me at least, really suggests a level of disrespect for art in general by the originators. It can easily be stopped yet nothing is done. My understanding of the lotto was them trying to reduce the scalping of the prints. As such, it made it all the more bizarre as to why they'd then release a print in such a way.
I wish they'd just stick them online and stop with all the fun and games. Give us a date when they'll drop and be done with it.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by grantb on Dec 13, 2009 1:54:47 GMT 1, Ok so when the news went out I panicked grabbed a coat, didnt shower and just ran out my front door. Ran from station to station and arrived around 4pm to what i thought i was going to be too late. But what a feeling to be 68th in queue and guaranteed a print I also met my neighbours grafik (who i already knew) and darrenreaply. Just got to say darren is one of the nicest guys ive met, a true gent ! I owe you a drink for the hot chocolate Also met butterfly & mammal along with many other forum members and shared many laughs. Not being able to sleep due to, ridiculous amounts of questions, needing a piss, noise, alcohol, teenage love affairs, and crackheads. Just wanna say thanks to everyone i met to make the queue that more enjoyable. It was amazing because if you really wanted the banksy you could of made it in time, its just if you wanted to make the effort to turn up. After I turned up it wasnt a crazy rush like i normally feel when going to any pow event. Hope you all enjoy the print as much as I will. Love it. This is my favorite post of the day - utterly chuffed for you iloveart... Wish I had been there. Enjoy your print buddy! c
Thanks coach hope i can afford to get it framed next week. might have to be new year though.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by distinctivevision on Dec 13, 2009 1:54:48 GMT 1, No matter what a gallery does, be it sell them online or release from teh shop you'll always get people saying 'why didnt they do this"
Gallerys do there best to make it fair, so pow, imo have put one set at the shop and the other as a lotto online.
I would consider that to be 50/50

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by sug on Dec 13, 2009 2:03:06 GMT 1, No matter what a gallery does, be it sell them online or release from teh shop you'll always get people saying 'why didnt they do this" Of course there will be that'll always be the case. I'm sure there are many folks today who are ecstatic that POW released the prints in store.
However, when the prints were released online, there were far more members picking them up. Granted there were some who seemed to constantly miss out and I hope some of those got lucky today. But on the whole, from I've read it's been more disappointment. Yet the numbers appearing on ebay if anything have increased. That should tell you that the system isn’t working.

Setting a time, place and date is better than selling online because if you really want one, come join the line and if you join it earlier enough you'll get a print.
The online competition, you need to be sat at a computer for god knows when, waiting for an email, pressing F5 hoping for the best, im sure you got more chance lining up imo.

Precisely!
Absolute no brainer for people this one - product that is sold at c 30% of it's true market value from one of the most famous living artists is going to attract a little attention....and the opportunity to make a grand, tax free (for 12 hours discomfort) is appealing to most, me included.
POW apparently have the 'shit' list to stop this activity and then release a piece via a means which is slightly contradictory - I dont get it....
Simple solution to this of course and release at market value (or nearer to it), the old argument around getting the art into the hands of the 'people' doesn't wash with me - if you can rationalise paying £500 for a piece of paper then you can probably afford £1500 - sell at this price point and make an additional £525K for charity (that's quite a lot of money).
Seems pretty straightforward to me - the queue will be much, much longer next time around (if there's a next time) once we all tell our mates and so on and the Mail On Sunday have done their bit....

Exactly. Anyone who pays over £1500 for this print is in my opinion, mental.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by veralynn on Dec 13, 2009 10:26:52 GMT 1, Just had a thought about the Artists/Galleries charitable intentions....maybe their view is that they sell for £450 on the basis that net proceeds of sale go to charity.
In addition could their double irony be that if you need £1K badly enough that you have to queue up on the street freezing your nicker nacker noo's off and turn around a print then you too are a charity case??

Just got to say darren is one of the nicest guys ive met, a true gent ! I owe you a drink for the hot chocolate Cheers mate - we got lucky with our neighbours for sure!
Darren - apologies, I think I may have woken you up about 04:30. I did a reconnaisance of the queue from back at what turned out to be the early 200s. Spotted a familiar face and gave you a big shout out!
A great night, which was, for me, very impromptu. I went out for a work related meal and then was in a cab going past the queue at 01:30. STOP! I shouted, much to me wife's annoyance when she called at 03:30 to see where I was!
"A shocking lack of judgement for someone claiming to be sobre." read her later text...
I stood for the entire night and having two kids, couldn't sleep at all during yesterday. It was only a hot bath at 21:00 last night that finally warmed me up!
BTW - I have to say thanks to a fair few people who helped me out in the queue to pay between 10:00 and 11:00 yesterday. I had to take my kids to a Xmas party at 11:00 and even though I had queued all night, I would have had to leave without picking up the print if I hadn't paid by then.
Thanks all! One guy said it was just like the script of a Xmas film!
Well, thanks to a few of you, it had a happy ending, with (a very tired and dishevelled) Dad taking photos of the kids on Santa's knee.
