Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by They call me Stephen on Dec 13, 2009 13:14:33 GMT 1, it just gets me that a local family can get there quite easy and then flip 5 nbg and bag about 6 grand for a night. this could never happen on a lottery
Of course it can and I’m sure many people who queued the other night will get lucky in the upcoming lottery for the green release as well.
POW are damned no matter what way they choose to release any Banksy print purely because they have become such a commodity. The only way to stop the flipping of Banksy prints for an instant profit would be to sell them at their market value yet I’m sure everyone would much rather that didn’t happen on the off chance they might just be lucky enough to win one at £450. As CHIPPY!! mentioned somewhere else in this thread the decision to release Banksy prints at 30% of their true market value is a great marketing plot and one that helps keep demand and hype high. The example given of Faile, Neate and Micallef are perfect testament to this.
With anything sold at 30% of its market value, people will always find a way to abuse the system; the old style general release had technology and software, the queues the other night had people paying other people in the queue to get them copies, lotteries will have people with multiple email accounts/entries. I had no problem with the free for all queuing system accompanying a lottery release and think POW couldn’t have handled it better if they tried although releasing the print in July would definitely have helped!
I spoke to one guy in the queue who admitted that he had flipped an old print to fund a round the world trip. When considered in this perspective I have absolutely no problems and doubt Banksy or the majority of people there would have either.
The only reason there are x amount of prints on ebay at the moment is because everyone walked away with the print and coa. I’m surprised if anything that this number isn’t much higher and agree with nex...overall, percentages sold on ebay will be much the same as any other recent release of similar edition size.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by kissysusuki on Dec 13, 2009 13:22:58 GMT 1, lets see how many green ones get offered on here or on ebay with inflated prices shall we, before some of you start crucifying POW. You just have to remember how many Donuts were offered for sale on here and on ebay to know that no matter what method POW do, there will be some people who will look to turn a fast profit, even forum members who think they have the moral high ground because they lost out.
One thing I do know is, pieces invariably finds the right home, the person who buys from the secondary will be less inclined to sell it on immediately, not unless the price goes up, which in turn means the original flippers are kind of kicking themselves for losing out on making more money, case in example Nola. The people who bought secondary immediately after print was released, could make more money selling now then the original flipper.
This is all part and parcel of the game. You have a choice, you can either play or not

You have to think though, its not the fault of the people in the Q that someone is willing to pay £1,700 for a banksy. If people did not pay that in the first place this would not be an issue.
All the people are who stand in line overnight to make £700 or whatever are basically monkeys for the people with the cash. If you want to live your life as a monkey then do that.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by kissysusuki on Dec 13, 2009 13:38:18 GMT 1, I would be inclinded to agree Freerange, but not everyone is doing it for the cash, it would seem from reading this thread, that majority of the people who did queue did it to because they want to own a Banksy, have collected in the past and are doing it for the right reasons. So putting things in to context, if the majority are there for the right reasons, then this method of obtaining a print, was executed perfectly by POW.
Unless you or others on this forum disagree and believe the majority of the people who queued are there for the wrong reasons?

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by bullet on Dec 13, 2009 13:41:24 GMT 1, im just referring to those that are moaning about flippers kissysuki, of course there will be the fans mixed in. But i agree with someone earlier that said the thing had become about money and i tend to agree.
Even those that collect banksy and have done since the start will have in the back of their mind the value. Its just human nature and the world we live in. Otherwise you would get people that 'love' banksy prints selling them for cost to other people that 'love' banksy, but as you have probably seen... that has never happened no matter how good someones intentions are.

We're all flippers in the long term...No one on this forum will sell his Banksy at cost, so what time do you have to wait before selling and not be categorised as flipper? Some here are selling their Donut print...well...it's only a few months it's been released.
Think about it... all you haters.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by JKW on Dec 13, 2009 13:49:14 GMT 1, The only way IMO to stop people flipping is for banksy to release everything open edition at very low cost. If you love his art does that number at the bottom really matters that much?
But no hardcore collects wont like that as it has no "Value".
Selling at market value wont help either they will still be sold out at £1.5k each because then the true market value will be £5k each on bay.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by Nico on Dec 13, 2009 13:52:26 GMT 1, Well I was one of the earliest Losers, set off from Manchester at 3am, finally got to the queue at 6am and saw the mass of people. Spoke to one of the guys on crowd control who said I was borderline so I waited it out. At about seven the tickets had been given out and I was about sixth away. The guy to get the last ticket said he had arrived at 4am. So I missed out by two hours. That life... I ended up staying just incase one was spare, well it was 4 hours back to Manchester, but no luck. It was good to see the cheers when people collected there's and dedication of the early queuers. I did go in about 11am and got one of the Dran special edition's, which is excellent. I did see a spare No Ball Games on the desk behind the counter, but Simon would'nt sell this as it had'nt been numbered. Should have asked him to wright ap on it. Did have a good time talking to everyone, but the quote of the day was " Not sure what I am queuing for but worth it for £500-600 "
Sorry to hear you went through all the wait for nothing! Interesting to finally hear someone who queued and was left out. Hope you get lucky with the lottery instead. ;D

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by bullet on Dec 13, 2009 13:54:08 GMT 1, Its been covered plenty of times in the past, but even though banksy has huge artistic merit etc etc... his fame has grown due to the price of his prints and originals. Without ebay etc he would not be where he is, so why would he stop now. He gets to make money for charity, probably a few for himself and then releases stuff where others can benefit so in my mind thats a very kind thing to do.
Lets not forget that a certain company started this chain reaction by doing naughty things a few years ago...

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by gbh on Dec 13, 2009 14:05:17 GMT 1, Yes flipping is annoying etc, but not everyone who will be doing it on this print will have demon eyes. think of the people that without it would not be able to have a nice christmas with their kids or family. Maybe that money will be able to pay to make a kids christmas really magic or get to see that relative in another country. Its part of the game, i have mixed feelings but there is always the other side to the coin. banksy knows this and what goes on, why else would he release stuff like this so close to xmas and refuse to bump up the price
come on man? for real?...Banksy is Santa now?
And we are now saying flipping is OK because it's "for the children"?
for fucks sake.............

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by bullet on Dec 13, 2009 14:07:45 GMT 1, well he is not oblivious to the fact his work sells for a lot of money, so in my mind selling something that the fans or flippers or whatever can get hold of for 30% of the 'market' value is pretty much giving a gift.
If he put the price up to £1,500, people would accuse him of cashing in. so i know which one i would prefer if i was doing the same.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by recycle on Dec 13, 2009 14:13:16 GMT 1, I was one of the lucky ones to get a print, and i really feel for the people who didn't. We roughly worked out that if you turned up before about 4am chances are you got one, any time after that you were on sketchy ground. It did seem strange to us though that there were only about 250 people who turned up. (unless some people came had a count then left) We arrived about 11pm and were in the late 100's. We did do a head count a few times though to make sure we were in with a chance though.
On average you get about 20% of flippers on the first week of a release, it's just how it is. You do have to remember though that some people will benefit from this. I am sure that at some point this week at least one will be heading over to the states and if it werent for the flippers our overseas friends wouldn't get the chance to own one. Having said all that there are times that it annoys me, one gallery owner (dunno who) had paid two eastern block guys to queue up all night to get a print. It also niggled me when he told them to make up British names when the got the print so it looked better. I really can't blame the guys for doing the queing as i am sure they needed the money, but if that gallery owner wasn't greedy then maybe a couple of the real enthusiasts at the back of the queue may have got one.
Am i planning to sell mine? Never as it means too much to me, out of them all this will always mean the most to me because of the experience i had. (It's also my first signed piece) Having said that though if someone offered me 5k it would be straight in the post. No matter how much i love it having a debt free life would be more of a positive thing for me, and print number XXX/250 will always be mine, even if someone else had it hanging in their home.
All i say to the flippers out there, if you are too greedy to donate any of your profits to a homeless charity at least buy one of Above's charity prints, you never know you may be able to flip it one day.... goabove.com/main/

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by spanksy on Dec 13, 2009 14:34:57 GMT 1, POW were impeccable in the way they handled us guys queuing and those who brought their families. About 10 people down from us there was a young girl of about 18 and a 9 year old girl holding sleeping bags claiming they were from different homes. POW had to deal with it and did so very well eventually evicting them out of the queue, mainly i think because of the girls safety. its a shame to see what money can make some people do. history of mankind though i suppose . . . there is worse things people do for money then flip a print, when u think about it in that perspective it changes a thing or two . . . at least its legal.
POW were impeccable in the way they handled us guys queuing and those who brought their families. Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by cannaebefannied on Dec 13, 2009 14:39:01 GMT 1, I personally loved the whole night, drove down from Edinburgh after throwing sleeping bags, camping chairs & a litre Havana Club in the boot. arrived at around 1am & were stone last in the queue for almost an hour, was kinda worried then that maybe my rough count was a hell of a lot rougher than 200.
Still all good, spent the hours chatting away with AdamK (glad you made the party) San Fran Ben (Cheers for the coffee) and Nick the round the world yachtsman Danny the chef who very kindly made me think of food all night ! and the guys & gal who joined us later.
I'd do it all over again tomorrow (AYE RIGHT)

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by recycle on Dec 13, 2009 14:42:58 GMT 1, What would be interesting would be if POW released the green one as a print run of 5000 at fifty quid. They'd still get their quarter mill, and anyone who wanted one could own one. The only risk run would be if Banksy could paint again after signing 5000 prints lol...

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by spanksy on Dec 13, 2009 14:43:31 GMT 1, it was a good experience, but getting called a tramp and spat on by passers by tarnished my night slightly. commercial street is a strange place at night. we were claiming to work for the BBC on a documentary about the homeless to many that asked. good banter as always in these queues though. good to see the same old faces!
