Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by My Name is Frank on Jan 28, 2010 0:52:47 GMT 1, EDIT - I get ya, no one likes being called the dreaded f word, so just blatantly, if you take these two prints and need money, you will get more than just having that print you have now, I am just lazy and want to meet face to face to exchange. Many thanks

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by damullae on Jan 29, 2010 6:24:27 GMT 1, Hi all,
I have just had a print framed and wanted your opinions.
Its NBG and looks great IMO – black frame and boarder and am very happy however the framing is a little out and part of me wants to take it back and other part thinking I am being anal…
Can’t put photos as don’t have camera with me (and perhaps wouldnt be noticable in a photos anyway) but…
The black boarder down the bottom is 7.5 cm and all 3 other boarders are 6.5 cm!! (distance between the frame and the print) It is noticeable enough for me to get my ruler out and check and gives the print a bit of a disorientated feel like its getting narrower at the top…
Having said all that I have answered my own question haven’t I? has to go back…
Guess it’s fair to expect it to be evenly framed yeah? and will f#$k with my OCD if I don’t get it fixed…
Edit: furthermore - the left hand side of print isnt flat... its wobbley.... dont like to complain/make a fuss - but its going back!!!

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by hlarmy on Jan 29, 2010 8:12:27 GMT 1, Unless it was done on the cheap, I would certainly take it back. Not that I want to f&*k with your OCD anymore but I would be more concerned of the quality of the framing, especially the more important parts of the framejob you can't see. It's an expensive print that could well be sought after in years to come so I would make sure it's done to a high standard personally...

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by spirit on Jan 29, 2010 10:31:44 GMT 1, a lot of framers (particularly older ones) will naturally make the bottom border larger unless you tell then otherwise - so I should think it was deliberate rather than accidental.

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by spaceshrew on Jan 29, 2010 10:39:20 GMT 1, You might consider giving it to another trusted framer, just to check it's been done correctly. I agree with ‘hlarmy’ I’d be more concerned about the quality of the bits you can’t see.
The first print I had framed, was window mounted, the Kilburn based framer used double sided tape on the front of the print to stick it to the mount!!! The only reason I had it checked by another framer, was because the original framer left his thumb print on the print. The wonky frame IMO sounds slap dash.
In the end Gary ‘MFM’ sorted it out for me, and it now looks great.

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by kennas on Jan 29, 2010 11:13:33 GMT 1, Spirit is correct on this. A lot of old school framers always leave a larger margin at the bottom of frames, it is something to do with the aesthetics on the eye. That said if you are not happy with it, take it back!

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by Rsyok on Jan 29, 2010 11:21:32 GMT 1, The mount sizing is compensation that a lot of framers do, but it doesnt make too much sense on a square print. Id be more concerned on the non flat area, take it back and talk through the details. It wouldnt be too much trouble for the framer to square it up(foc).

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by etched on Jan 29, 2010 12:54:55 GMT 1, i quote " some people prefer windowmounts to be wider at the bottom, because an optical illusion makes the bottom edge appear narrower than the other three"
on that size the framer should of done .5cm instead of 1cm, obviously the 1cm is too much for the customer and its too noticable

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by Mister Frame Man on Jan 29, 2010 13:03:48 GMT 1, Like one or two have mentioned, it used to be the "done" thing to weight a mount at the bottom and I still have customers coming in requesting this - That said, not many.
The framer should have asked if you wanted the mount weighted but I wouldnt say he has done anything malicious. He should re mount if you ask him but he wont be happy as he will also have to make a new size frame to fit, therefore losing any profit he might have made!
Any problems I would be more than happy to help!

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by Coach on Jan 29, 2010 18:42:33 GMT 1, Some of my larger (read taller) pices are done with a larger border on the bottom. Until I stared using MFM. It's done because of perspective - when hung, often the top border is further away from the eye and is at more of an angle, so when hung, the theory is that top and bottom borders "appear" to be the same. I would try hanging it first to see if it still looks wrong. That said, something as precious as this should be just how you want it. Iwould also want the wrinkles sorted, if I were you. I would have no hesitation in recommending MFM, who has done lots of pieces, never any complaints. c

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by freeelander on Jan 29, 2010 21:16:04 GMT 1, Thanks Graff, yah it's certainly pleastant to look over at while I'm at my computer desk. Now I just need to get a piece of equal caliber to hang up on the wall in front of me. (adjacent to the NBG)
Without spending an arm and a leg.. I think a Walker would be up for it. We'll sew though!
Cheers.

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by damullae on Jan 30, 2010 4:46:21 GMT 1, Cheers all - really appreciate the info.
I did call them on Friday and they explained that bottom is sometimes a bit larger... I can accept this but assumed that it would have been in the middle...
The left hand side needs to be sorted though... They initially suggested we glu it down to keep flat but this didnt sound right.. they explained that can use tape on the outside but may not be 100% flat... BUT... am sure that there a millions of valueable frame jobs which are flat and not glued... you cant be gluing valuable pieces (i assume)
Anyway - will take it back and have a chat with them. They are very customer service orientiated so will want to help.
I am in Perth and cant use MFM unfortunately. Another reason why they rushed job perhaps... dont know Banksy and guess without that knowledge its easy to think that a slap bang job would do...
ps - you really need non - reflective glass hey.. my fault there - not noticed it so much with other pprints I have had done.
Merci

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by hlarmy on Jan 31, 2010 12:41:15 GMT 1, Without wanting to get into the inevitable slanging match, which does seem to be the norm on here these days, the last 5 to sell on eBay unframed have gone for:
£1,435 £1,470 £1,570 £1,422 £1,466
... less eBay fees etc etc etc
I also know of two others sold in the past couple of weeks for £1,450 and £1,425.
I'm a genuine buyer looking for a print at what I consider market value. Is that ok?
