They do say that a certain percentage will quickly enter the secondary market so I guess this is too be expected at some point.

He is just finishing it up todayโฆ.the detail and time he spent on the Dalai Lamaโs face was amazing in my opinion! He spent half of Sunday on his face aloneโฆ

Mear One ๐บ๐ธ Street Art โข New Print Release , by Baurmann Gallery on Apr 8, 2008 18:51:00 GMT 1, I had a question I was wondering if anybody had any insight or heard anything about Banksy possibly writing something and crossing out the eyes on MEARโs Melrose mural when he was previously in LA?
Basically, MEAR just painted his Dalai Lama piece on his old mural spot and while painting it a ton of the people in the neighborhood kept asking why Banksy defaced MEARโs last piece. Someone wrote โBad art hurts everyoneโ on that mural a while back. MEAR did see that shortly afterwards and wrote, โLoser artists go over artโ back over it, but it was not until this weekend that anymore was thought of it than just some stupid taggers in the alleyway.
It is right around the corner from Banksyโs โNo More Heroโsโ spot and the lettering does look very similar in my opinion, but my biggest reservation on why I am not sure is I have never heard of Banksy going over another artist.
Any insight or opinions would be appreciatedโฆ

I have NOTHING but respect for Banksy though, love his work and truly hope to find he did not write over that piece...
When MEAR was painting his mural this weekend, as always, the people from the neighborhood were in full effect. Everyone from older store owners to kids from the neighborhood to people just passing though were constantly stopping by. It was just extremely strange that were asked about the Banksy thing from so many different types of people so many times, who live or work right within a few blocks, why โBanksy wrote on MEARโs pieceโ. Someone when he was painting it even asked if he was Banksy. We were extremely confused until I came across the picture of the writing over it.
With how many people that commented, I had to at least look into it. In looking more closely though, I was trying to prove it was not him with comparing those pics [as MEAR was sure it was not him and I did not think Banksy would do that either]. I do see similarities in the letter styles, mainly certain letters that have me suspicious. Banksy has that very sloppy street style on some of his working but it takes a lot of talent to paint what he does.
But like I said, I have never heard of Banksy going over another artist and truly did not think would, but the circumstances have definitely caused me to look into it closer, and I am curious otherโs feedback on it as well.

look very similar in this piece in my opinion...
Certain letter have slightly different styles in his pieces [like I notice his S's look diff across other works] but his H's, A's, E's, O's, D's, U's, Y's look similar in many of the pieces I have found.

Also listening to the few interviews from him I think he would be happy with any sort of street art, I don't think he would be so negative over a mural, esp one that definitely shows talent.
Also when did this happen, he was in LA a few months back, but it seems to me if he is going to go through the trouble of possible getting caught tagging there he would leave a little more then just some words.
