Banksy • Andipa Gallery, by wiz on Apr 9, 2009 16:31:00 GMT 1, Cant mention the name Alsbabar as it might go further yet, but i bought a piece of Design there some weeks ago with a phone bid and today i was refunded what i paid as they sold it to a contact / regular of theirs because of "Translation difficulties", the only translation difficulty being that i do not speak utter bollix while they are fluent in it IMO of course. Freaking amateurs, i have been dealing with auction houses in Europe for years and have never been so patronised, indeed i have usually had good experiences with them all apart from these muppets. Anyhow, sorry to rant on this thread peeps, all over now. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Banksy • Andipa Gallery, by ilikekittens on Apr 9, 2009 19:46:03 GMT 1, I was surprised to see Are you using that chair/Nighthawk's Cafe included in this show. Unless Acoris bought that outright from Laz (which is possible) then one can speculate that perhaps the two galleries are helping one another out. Laz was offering it at £1M last year but believe they had reduced the price to £850k in December or January. As for pricing of the rest of the work, I think many here will be pleasantly surprised. I've bought Banksy's from both galleries and both are priced rather well imho given the current environment and will work with able and willing buyers. I have nothing but praise for each gallery and both have been proactive getting prices in line with reality whereas I know plenty of dealers that are still listing inventory at '07/'08 highs. Should be a nice show and I'd love to get it into my schedule to get over there for it. >>>Are the pieces in the Andipa exhibtion built up from their own collection or have they 'borrowed' pieces from other galleries/owners for this?<<< I don't know that there is a 100% answer to this but it is no secret that Andipa have been major buyers of Banksy at auction for years now and are on the short list of galleries one would contact sourcing a specific image as next to Laz they have the most inventory for that artist that I've seen. I doubt much, if any is borrowed from other galleries and would speculate that most is probably owned outright by Andipa with perhaps a few on consignment. >> Are pieces not put onto their website as they are held back for serious collectors/buyers or is it Andipa stockpiling Banksys to see what happens price wise in the future? <<< There are very few galleries the world over that will list prices on a website for original works of art of substantial value. This is the norm and not out of the ordinary.
I'm sure they must be swopping pieces Watch out for some 'Byzantine' art appearing in Laz Inc.orporated shortly . . .'Are you using that urn'? ;D

Banksy • Andipa Gallery, by wiz on Apr 9, 2009 20:02:34 GMT 1, Whats the problem if they are "Swapping stuff" anyhow?, i dont see anything wrong with that at all, a combination of each others client list could be advantageous to sales. A lot of Design galleries are offering pieces that they dont own outright anyhow, they may own a few but some are on consignment and some are at other galleries, its the way it is..... the Network.

Banksy • Andipa Gallery, by afroken on Apr 9, 2009 20:14:06 GMT 1, Whatever guile Lazarides possesses is offset, however, by a winning ingenuousness. He was not happy about the Banksy exhibition at Andipa. It was “piracy,” he said. He mentioned that Andipa had tried to reach him. “He called me Stavros, and I called him a cock,” he said, breaking into a grin. “Nothing I love more than failing aristocrats.”

I think its a bit over the top for the moment but If I was him I would be pricing that piece high, not really wanting to sell it thinking more of its possible value 10 years down the line.

Agreed
Whatever guile Lazarides possesses is offset, however, by a winning ingenuousness. He was not happy about the Banksy exhibition at Andipa. It was “piracy,” he said. He mentioned that Andipa had tried to reach him. “He called me Stavros, and I called him a cock,” he said, breaking into a grin. “Nothing I love more than failing aristocrats.”
Mr Lazarides would like to make it clear that he'd "rather eviscerate myself and eat my warm entrails in front of my screaming children than collaborate with Andipa". ;D ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)
Did Stavros delete his post?

Banksy • Andipa Gallery, by saint on May 7, 2011 11:16:30 GMT 1, Something worth mentioning me thinks......
The market for urban art is continuing to expand and integrate into the mainstream. Works by urban artists are now beginning to be included in the collections of the most respected museums and public galleries worldwide, including MOCA (LA) who plan to put on the first major survey of street art to be shown in the US later this year.
Banksy | War Boutique will present an exciting opportunity for collectors to acquire original works by two mavericks of urban art - one just emerging onto the international stage, choosing to put on his first commercial exhibition at Andipa, and one already recognised as amongst the biggest names in contemporary art today.
Banksy's continuing high profile has brought with it an explosion in international demand for his work. In response Andipa Gallery is pleased to announce Banksy | War Boutique, an exhibition showcasing an un-paralleled collection of iconic and sought after original works by Banksy, from the collection of Andipa Gallery, one of the largest in the UK.
Banksy | War Boutique follows Andipa Gallery's, recent exhibition of original works by Banksy in Gstaad, Switzerland. An annual show which attracted the highest number of attendees to date, from Geneva, Zurich and beyond, further illustrating Banksy's internationally acclaimed position.
Using textiles, bullet proof ceramics, shells and bomb blankets as the conduit to express his ideas, the artist known as War Boutique "symbolically transforms instruments of war and destruction into constructive items embodying creativity, peace and critical social commentary." Society for Contemporary Craft.
War Boutique has provided his wearable art for photo-shoots with the late Alexander McQueen CBE as well as collaborating with the royal and military tailor, Gieves & Hawkes. He has also joined forces with some of the most renowned contemporary artists including Banksy for his controversial Banksy Versus Bristol Museum show and YBA Sarah Lucas.
Working for a body armour company on obtaining his degree in Textiles and Fashion Design, he has designed armour and uniforms from fabrics specially formulated for military use for the British, Egyptian, Indian, Pakistani and Algerian armies, as well as the Metropolitan Police, Italian Carabinieri and Mexico City Police. The arresting symbolic potential of these textiles leading him to requisition and recycle uniforms, military and ballistic materials and use them in his art, to alert us to the creeping militarisation of our society, encourage us to work towards peace and remind us of our duty to realise this.
His Peace Pods have hung from trees and rafters in Tate Modern, Tate Britain, British Museum and Regent's Park. They are places of respite for people to enter and feel and make peace. Designed so that its essential for the individuals inside to cooperate peacefully to avoid the destabilisation of the pod these works provoke us to question the necessity of war and to explore ways of experiencing peace.
